OT: Ben Affleck voices his opinion of Deflategate to Bill Simmons (NSFW)
I don't find expletives offensive by any means, but I thought Ben was way over the top...
I don't either. I will never understand why certain words are considered "bad." They're just words of expression.
EDIT: I watched the video and after about a minute, thought about this guy:

There are studies out there showing that people who swear a lot have bigger vocabularies and are more intelligent than those who dont:

Quailman,
Those who swear are fools at best.

Wolverine57,
Because Stone Cold said so.
Austin 3:16
Also, thats not what John 3:16 says.
add it to the list!

Swearing annoys me. I find it does make people sound stupid - like that is the best way to express yourself?
The upside of not swearing is you don't ever turn around and feel like an ass because you just dropped an F bomb and there is an old lady or a young child standing behind you.

mention how completely and utterly trivial the "offense" was anyway. Or that it had zero impact on that game. It's the largest over-reaction in sports I can remember in my lifetime.
"It's the largest over-reaction in sports I can remember in my lifetime"
And yet here we are, with people still over-reacting to the over-reaction over a year after the incident.
He sounds like Matt Damon but with balls.

I don't think the Pats were guilty of anything other teams were doing as well. The video taping was the big one IMO but they paid the price for it. Mostly the Pats are guilty of winning. But you keep spouting the company line.
and are not serial cheaters. Spygate was taping signals from an unapproved location. That's their only real violation. Deflategate is made up and is only believed by knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, morons.
Spygate was not some giant conspiracy. It was a simple violation. It meant nothing. There was no rule against taping signals.
The problem is the other 31 billionaire owners can't handle the fact that the Pats have been dominant for 15 years. They need to find BS ways to try to take them down a peg. That is all it is.
P.S. - Goodell should always be told to fuck off.
with the Pats. We all despise ESPN, know they are full of BS, and are a mouthpiece for the NFL. All of this being known, people here still want to buy the Spygate garbage they spewed as gospel. It doesn't make a lick of sense.

we have to get you some Claritin D or Flonase.
anytime "gate" is attached to any type of controversy, it's the dumbest name ever
Thanks, Nixon!

I've been reading Simmons for 15+ years, and I still think he's a good writer, although sometimes he falls into ruts. But I really don't think his personality translates well to video. He just seems to be an insufferable homer without any real thought or insight.
One of the reasons his writing is so good is that he legitimately does have a ton of knowledge and insight, and is good at communicating that in a relatable way. But this basically boils down to "Goodell is evil, right, guys?," which at this point is a pretty boring conversation.
And Ben Affleck has nothing to add, other than being a famous guy from Boston.
Maybe had a little to drink before the interview?
I couldn't stop watching his upper lip try and fail to move while he was talking.
Ben is obviously drunk...at least a six pack in and sipping bourbon from his coffee mug. But even with all of the slurring and expletives, I thought he spoke pretty eloquently about the issue.
I believe he has a man crush on Tom as I do. He will never work in Hollywood again.

But perhaps due to his mental state, he misses many essential points. Most importantly, every scientist known to have examined this data since has concluded --not that the balls were deflated 8%--but essentially nil. The halftime PSI of the Patriots’ footballs was consistent with the Ideal Gas Law.
For a more comprehensive discussion of many other issues see the link below (which is already well-known to most of us).

Was the new show any good? I'm a Simmons/Ringer fan so I plan on watching it when I get home.
Is it just me or was the Simmons show really bad?
He had a similar response to the Ebola outbreak in Africa stating that it was blown out of proportion and nothing to really worry about. He often lets his opinions get in the way of his intelligence.
What intelligence?
Honestly, I don't understand the appeal of Bill Simmons. Sure, to Boston homers. But how does a guy who doesn't come across well on TV at all and who thinks the best way to start a new show is to talk about a topic from 17 months ago get his own HBO show?
I know, when he used to write, he was kind of entertaining. But here we are, with the same Teen Wolf references, every NBA comparison coming back to Bird, and a whole bunch of pounding the table to prove how big of a Boston homer he is. This still appeals to people once they leave the frat house?
