OT: ALL-TIMER of an RCMB thread on the Blackwell photo
Generally, I think it’s pretty Sparty-esque to care about what the other side is posting about, but I was just to curious to see how they’d react to the Blackwell photo to resist taking a peak.
And HOLY COGNITIVE DISSONANCE, BATMAN! This is just astounding! The fun starts here:
Through the next many pages, a few points are agreed upon:
- The picture was OBVIOUSLY photoshopped,
- The recruits mom is being paid off to say that she took the photo and Blackwell was in the house,
- The local media is all funded by Michigan alums, who demand that Sparty be destroyed. Even the Sparty beat writers have bought in, and
- The media SHOULD instead be focused on Zavier’s traffic accident (still), which would have resulted in a lesser powerful program getting the death penalty.
Now, it’s fun to take jabs at the rivals, but I really think this thread could be studied by a Psych Ph.D student and included in a dissertation on mental gymnastics!

My initial reaction to this was WTF? It's almost as though Tucker knows something about MSU that the outside world doesn't, but I wonder if this is a frequently-used item in college football contracts at the P5 level.

I think he just saw the way Dantonio left and thought there might be more shoes to drop. If he is motivated by the money then this protects him (at least a bit).
Remember, he was a GA at MSU under Saban--who was a bit hamstrung at MSU by the scholarship reductions that Perles left him.

I'd be shocked if Juwan has such a clause in his contract. :)
Bill O'Brien had that clause in his PSU contract and it seems that I've read about something similar in most recent hires where allegations of NCAA violations are in the air. No coach wants to get treated like Matt Luke was by Ole Miss.

I wonder if it's pretty standard language in contracts now. Think of all the different situations where coaches have been hired in the midst of investigations and almost sure sanctions: USC after Carroll, Meyer at OSU after Tressel, O'Brien at PSU. To the extent it has a negative impact on the new coach's ability to do their job, getting the extra assurance makes sense.
Also, if the coach asks for it, what's the school going to say? If they say no, they admit they expect something coming. If they are delusional and don't think they'll be penalized, they can say yes to the clause and not give anything up.

I initially thought that was crazy on reading it
But it sort of makes sense, if you think that NCAA violations would hurt his ability to coach, he doesn't want to get fired for a poor on-field product that would be partly a result of any sanctions. So he'd ask for more time to get his guys and not be shackled by anything like scholarship reductions

These are the same people who think Mel Tucker is a home run hire.

here is a picture of those people analyzing the photo and opining about the conspiracy

I peaked in high school.

You peaked at conception.

I'm over my Sparty crush.

Bashing Sparty for being Sparty is always fun but if we're being honest with ourselves I'm pretty sure if the tables were turned threads here would look an awfully like the thread over there. It's quite normal to circle the wagons in times of adversity and you definitely want to believe the best for the team or players you support.
Great case in point is happening right now in the NFL. Myles Garrett has accused Mason Rudolph of yelling a racial slur to him when they were face to face on the ground and Rudolph violently rejects that statement and called Myles a liar. There is no audio (allegedly) so we're left with one man's word against another. Not surprisingly about 90% of Cleveland believes Myles is telling the truth and about 90% of Pittsburgh believes Mason and nobody has any clue what really did or didnt happen.
People want to believe their own. MSU is no different than anybody else in that regard.

I agree with your point in general, but this cult has gone completely over the top. I, for one, would not be able to lie to myself to this degree. Something is very weird over there. I can't ignore it at this point. Disturbing.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:24 AM ^
Bunch of losers. All of them over there.
February 19th, 2020 at 10:16 AM ^
That was an awfully broad stroke with which you painted "those people." It's great that you have this hobby, but your worldview really should be more than just the University of Michigan.

There are a number of reasonable posters on RCMB, just as there are a number of dipshits on here.

So I’m going to take a bit more of a pessimistic view over their inability to accept clear, verifiable fact:
You know what’s scary about their stance on it? That’s actually human nature. When you consciously or subconsciously become a member of a tribe, you ignore all facts and logic and instead insert conspiracies and unproven rhetoric in its place.
As much as Sparty fandom is something I can’t personally understand, this is not a Sparty condition, it’s a human condition. I witnessed many people on the board do the same in past Michigan incidents. Also, good lord is it grossly apparent in everyday politics.
Tibalism works as a survival tool, but that piece of our evolution is also what makes human beings so easily manipulated. It’s why you have news sources that are there to provide one half of the story and often times that story is “it’s the other side’s fault, put all attention to them, not us!” and meanwhile the other source is doing the exact same thing back at the other group. It’s why nobody gets along, everyone thinks another group is actively trying to ruin their lives, etc. The human mind is a really complex and amazing thing, but good god does it have glaring weaknesses that make us stupid.

I don’t think this explanation fits this situation. The fans aren’t defending MSU, they are defending Dantonio, the same guy that most of them were trashing about a week ago for (1) driving the program back down the last few years, (2) not bringing in different assistants, (3) running a stagnant offense, (4) hanging around just to get a big bonus payout (5) poor recruiting and (6) leaving them to scramble to get a new coach in February.

There are some...interesting legal minds in that thread.

Fake photo? Wow. Live feed of RCMB user logging on....
February 19th, 2020 at 11:15 AM ^
Yea, no one on this board ever cares what MSU is posting. And yet I feel like I know the RCMB without evcer going there.
February 19th, 2020 at 12:26 PM ^
Just read the article about Tucker’s last few days at Colorado. Sounds like he will fit right in at MSU.
February 19th, 2020 at 2:18 PM ^
Dude is RichRod 2.0, but without the prior success.
February 19th, 2020 at 2:45 PM ^
With all the bad shit that has happened at MSU over the past few years its crazy how these people STILL feel like the media is unjustly picking on them
Face it, your university is FUCKING UP repeatedly
February 19th, 2020 at 4:54 PM ^
I'm seriously interested as to why it seems their entire fanbase has Stockholm Syndrome. Why do they adamantly defend someone who completely fucked them over, stole money from their school, and left their program in worse shape than when he got there??
February 19th, 2020 at 4:56 PM ^
I just wish Ohio State had its own annoying as fuck in-state little brother.
February 19th, 2020 at 5:39 PM ^
That thread was.....interesting. When scrutiny comes to Mark and the program, apparently the appropriate answer is to fling all manner of shit at the walls rather than look inward and ask questions.
