I thought you could only have 85 players on scholarships heading into fall camp? I am very curious as to what Alabama's scholarship figure looks like.

Is it Fall camp? I thought it was first game.

I'd be looking over my shoulder right now.

Alabama's freshman CBs must be having a good fall camp.

This was the first thing that went through my mind also.
Could envision Saban offering the kid the injury route or the dismissal route.

LSU loses a cornerback, then Alabama has to give up a cornerback. It was through the Baton Rouge Treaty of 1731 that Alabama obtained access to Mobile Bay for seagoing trade with the rest of the non-SEC world.

to quote the same treaty but you beat me to it

Everyone keeps talking about how for each Bama player that gets drafted another superior athlete is poised to take over the spot. At this rate (WR Black out for 3-4months) and now Dixon, they seem to keep loosing valuable depth.

*losing

Maybe they keep their valuable depth in a cage or tied up in some way, and now they are loosing them to roam free and attack.

anyone have an opinion on how big of a loss this is for them?
August 10th, 2012 at 5:23 PM ^
wish the guy good luck in his future, dont want this to come off sounding wrong... but im not particuarly up to speed on the Bama roster and had the same question. all i know about Dixon is that he was a well regarded JUCO transfer...
August 10th, 2012 at 5:32 PM ^
He is a 2nd string DB. So probably their 3-4th best CB.
August 10th, 2012 at 6:31 PM ^
is 1st string all the way!

Not much of a loss at all. Saban would never have dismissed him otherwise. Saban would also never have dismissed Mathieu. The Saban respects no law except power.

Dixon's departure still leaves them with Dee Milliner, John Fulton, Renzell Watkins and Deion Belue as corner possibilities, so they still aren't in bad shape at this position. Dixon was probably not going to start, by many accounts that I have read, but as the article points out, he was well-regarded and probably will sting a bit if Alabama somehow racked up injuries in the defensive backfield.
Still, I wish the kid the best of luck wherever he ends up. The ESPN article said it was "family reasons", so hopefully things turn out OK there as well.

Worked at MSU with him for a while and wasn't too fond of him. Said guy is also kind of a tough character as well, so I will take his word for it.

and the people I knew there said Izzo was a good guy.
