Submitted by Gooseggs on January 19th, 2023 at 9:09 PM

5* db cormani McClain has signed w Colorado, giving them the top db’s from the last two classes. He is ranked 9th overall per 247. This is after a very dramatic saga of recruitment involving Miami and u Florida.

coach prime has something cooking in boulder.

Can you both be right? A phrase like "old stick in the mud white guys" is always going to sound at least somewhat racist by attributing a negative attribute to a race/gender combination, and its usage probably implies at least some degree of prejudice toward old white guys.

On the other hand, it's obvious that white and black people in America, with some exceptions, largely have separate and fairly distinct cultures, and so it's not inherently racist to say that something might appeal to black people that does not appeal to white people, just as something might appeal to young people that does not appeal to old people.

So while it's not racist to say that young black men and boys might like Deion's antics, while old white men might not, it is perhaps racist to use a slightly derogatory modifier like "stick in the mud" with one of those groups in a way that elevates one racial group's taste over another's.

yes, absolutely. 100%.

my greater point is "if we want to be better and improve race relations, and be less racist as a society, then we should not tolerate derogatory comments, or race based generalizations, and we should not tolerate the introduction of race into a situation where it is totally not needed"

those things are only said/done to divide

I don't hate him at all. Although I do think he's incredibly arrogant and more than a little full of shit when it suits him. Basically like most superstar athletes and coaches, of which he is both.

But I don't hate him or even necessarily dislike him. His time at Colorado will be hugely successful or a wild, chaotic ride. I'd actually bet on success, tbh.

I'm willing to bet money that the people hating on him are the younger ones in the group that never watched him in his, ahem, prime.  He is now exactly what he was then - a prima donna that demands attention because he's fucking good at what he does, and wants everyone to know it.  There's a reason he has that nickname - Prime Time.  He earned it by living on an island that nobody in the NFL could penetrate.  You need a WR blanketed to the point that no passes are going his way?  You put Prime Time on that guy, and no passes were going his way.  He was Charles Woodson before Charles Woodson was a thing.  He was also a damn good baseball player - and played in the MLB while he was also playing in the NFL.  Yeah - the same legit dual sport threat that Bo Jackson was.

He earned his nickname and he has every right to live off it.  If he wants to be called Prime, he's earned the right to be called Prime more so than anybody else I can think of that is living off a nickname.

I think people generally don't care for brash and cocky, regardless of age.  Everyone wants their stars to be confident ie Mike Hart & Little Brother....Donovan Edwards "which one?" comment but the moment someone else does it, it's arrogant.  Exactly why OSU & MSU fans are pearl clutching so much this year.

Ryan Day: Hang a hundred! Good.

Harbaugh: 3rd base! Act like you've been there before!

As far as Sanders goes, I think a lot of people seem to think it's smoke and mirrors. And whether or not he's a competent coach, there is some schadenfraude in watching a braggadocious person not live up to their own expectations.

Very interesting to see how they stack up to Oregon, Utah and Washington in the next few years. I don't expect any immediate results besides not being the worst Power 5 team.

This will be so fascinating to watch, IMO. On one hand, I can’t stand his persona…calling him Prime, arrogance etc. On the other, seems to have a passion that’s very contagious and seems like a good dude outside of his antics. I want to love him but want to hate him at the same time.

I think he’ll get CU up there, as I do think he can coach and most importantly recruit. If Prime ends up being successful at CU, him moving on to a power 5 team that has money to back him up, will be scary to see.

This kid will be at CU longer then Sanders will be.  I am curious where his next destination is.  And I enjoy how he is ruffling feathers and having people clutch pearls.

We need personalities in the game, it makes college sports fun. RIP Mike Leach

The Florida schools not being able to keep top talent home is still so strange to me. Now they’re losing kids to friggin Colorado. Deion convinced this kid to play more than  halfway across the country, in the cold, and with some of his games starting at 10:30 ET on FS1 where people like myself fall asleep 5 minutes into the game on the couch. And for a team that still despite the transfers is going to be a 7 win-ish team.

He can certainly recruit I will give him that much.

Hope he succeeds. Does not seem like a guy whose defense as a player consisted of “go cover their best receiver in man coverage” is inclined to be a tactical genius. If he can add substance to that flash could be something to watch.

Bright side is it’s pulling talent away from the SEC. Other bright side is that Colorado probably won’t get much beyond mediocrity with him there. Coach Prime was a phenomenal athlete, but this will be as much about him as it is UC.

Deon is very shrewd. They come no smarter and he clearly has a great vibe with young recruits.

He wasn't going to jump at the first major program that offered him. But Colorado fit the larger plan for him to eventually hit the big time at a football power school. It's a major conference program with a great entry point after so many years of losing. And a yearly conference schedule that is about to get a lot easier in a couple years.

I think he knows his limitations on the tactical side. He had no desire to spend much time learning technique and tactics as an assistant. Thought he was above the brutally long work hours without the spotlight.

At JSU, he picked a place he could roll up wins fast. And he definitely did do a lot of good for HBC football in the process.

No doubt he jumps from Colorado as quick as he can find success for them. If he doesn't win there in a couple years, he's stuck there or somewhere lower. Because the book will be written on his coaching abilities and ceiling.

And at that point if it stalls out in Boulder, he'll find a new career path. And he'll take a pound of flesh off the sport blaming everyone around him and the system for the failure.

Big passion. Big ego.

Quick thoughts:

1) Hopefully we don't talk too much about Deion on here but I understand it is an interesting topic.

2) He is obviously an excellent recruiter and will have top classes.

3) The positive is he will mostly be getting recruits who would otherwise go to your OSU, Bama, Georgia's, etc.

4) Personally, loved Deion as a player but as a coach I think his teams will underperform expectations based on stars. Also, putting a lot on his son to be a legit D1 QB. How will his son do against better defenses without a huge talent advantage around him?

Brewers,

It might be semantics, but “top classes”, in your second point.  Exactly how is that defined?  (Not that it really matters.)

He has already brought more talent to Boulder than they’ve seen in a while.

He will take the occasional player that would most likely have gone to Bama, Georgia, OSU, or Clemson - but, will those players significantly impact those other schools?  I don’t think so - even if he took one talented prospect from each of those four.  And, any recruit can make a difference.

Your fourth point about his son as a D1 QB is a very good point.  As I’ve stated.. there will be a lot of popcorn consumed watching the Buffs.

Good - taking talent away from the southern schools is a good thing.

I don’t know why people hate on what he’s doing there so far. Sure, he hasn’t coached a game there yet but if we got some of these top recruits like what he’s done so far, we would be extremely excited about the potential.

“Prime”, or perhaps “Pr1me” is basic branding and marketing.

Deion’s talent level as a player.. very high.

Bringing awareness to HBCU’s… very good.

Talent difference between JSU and other FCS schools… noticeable / significant.

Ability for Prime to relate to players and gain interest from prospects… certainly seems high.

Ability to coach… scheme.. etc.. when talent levels are similar.   How effective is he with clock management, game situations, etc.?   IMO, this is incomplete and more needs to be seen.

The biggest point of concern for me is.. the players - their well being - development - growth - and future - can the Colorado staff develop them into NFL players - and/ or young men who support their families and contribute to their communities during their lives..

Colorado’s games could be fun to watch.

Both those corners are super freaks. Both would start now on any team in America. They are the 2 best corners in a long time. Their hghlight ideos are nuts. QBs beware!
