Ok, so who, for 1000 points,  is going to sift through those 2000 pages and give us the juicy tidbits? Asking for a mod.

Just perusing a little through the texts.  This isn't really related to Zach Smith stuff, but it's about recruiting and I found it interesting.  They're attempting to zero in on Marcus Washington. Talks a little about negative recruiting against Missouri a mention about some "illegal time" with Missouri by Zach and a little smack talk about beating Stanford on a couple guys.

Ultimately Washington commits to OSU, then decommits and pulls the trigger for good with Texas in late October.

Other than that "illegal time" bit (hilarious) there's not actually anything in here that seems unusual. Just a glimpse at the staff end of the crazy world of recruiting. Notice the stuff they're talking with dad about--playing time, moving to safety, the issue that OSU might just recruit over Washington if he doesn't turn out to be a star--reasonable stuff.

It must be so bananas to be involved in that process.

BTW big-time programs, including OSU and most others at this level, will absolutely move on to the next guy if a guy doesn't pan out, so Carl's concerns are well-founded.

OSU and MSU are continuous clown shows. If we can start beating both things would get very fun. This off the field shit coming out of these programs is never ending

Yep. And it will continue to be never ending as long as both teams keep being successful. If MSU didn’t have Dantonio and instead was going 5-7 every year, they’d be getting a lot more shit. Same with OSU.

There have been some interesting tidbits on Steve Lorenz Twitter feed.

Meyer telling Zach Smith to turn down another job offer.

Suggestion that leaking Bama offered jobs to Zach, Schiano and Grinch would help recruiting.(Implication is that Bama offered Zach Smith before Gattis)

This one shows Meyer mentioning Giles Jackson and not knowing who Brian Bresee was. Bresee was the #1 ranked 2020 recruit and had visited OSU 3 times. Not a shock that he committed to Clemson.

What I find interesting about the text messages were that it seemed coaches and their wives were apart of the conversation. I say alot of "Zach/Courtney Smith" or "Ryan/nina Day". What would be the purpose of that?

The slashes seem operative. My first guess would be that the wives aren't actually participating but that they *might* see the thread, as if to say "be careful; don't say something so-and-so mightn't like to see." Calling this more than a hypothesis would be careless. If it is true, however, it'd likely have been a policy born of past missteps/drama. And Zach's story showed no shortage of that -- which is not to present evidence for the hypothesis but to note something consistent with it.

It took them over a year to sanitize these.  Or maybe they held the records waiting for a Friday during peak vacation time?  Incredible.  Ohio law requires public records be produced “promptly.”  Guess this is what passes for promptly in Columbus.

If they want to redact everything, we can fill in the gaps...

Found this gem on page 876.

Urban: Hey, you need to return the WildmanT Ball Lifter.  I told you small, not xlarge.

Smith:  Not sure we can return this stuff if you wore it.  Also, when are you going to pay me for this stuff. It's over $22 large.

Urban: 22 thousand?  Christ Almighty.  Are you ordering stuff for yourself?

Smith: sorry, auto correct.  22 hundred.  I really need to pay this credit card off before my wife sees the balance.

Urban: Catch up with you later.

"Only a matter of time before he did something that did substantial harm to you or the program." - Trace Armstrong, sports agent and I guess Meyer confidant.

All class, as always.

Urban Meyer is a great guy....He managed to keep Aaron Hernandez out of prison at UF.  I'm sure that was because of the Bible studies and family culture within the program.
