OSU Releases Urban/Smith Texts and Emails
Ok, so who, for 1000 points, is going to sift through those 2000 pages and give us the juicy tidbits? Asking for a mod.
The amount of redaction in the first 3 pages told me all i need to know about it.
I'll save you time. All the terrible stuff is omitted
Yes, and yet, even if it hadn't been omitted, it's not like OSU would have gotten in trouble for any of it. Meyer could have been implicated in the Kennedy assassination and the worst they would have gotten would he a strongly worded letter from the NCAA.
But a loss to tSUN and he would have been the blamed for the military/industrial complex and Coldplay.
I was going to do it, then remembered theres probably dick pics. Hard pass.
“Hard pass.”
((Bevis Laugh))
Wait a second... I thought that type of language drove chicks away from the blog.
/s <-- explicitly for the daft.

A long-lost Mom!
(Just stumbled across this while looking for a certain CRex post from way back. You and your momly wit and wisdom are missed around here. You should post more often.)
I did it. See the bits downthread. There are only quasi-embarrassing things that make ZS look like an asshole, and they're all in the last 400-ish pages of the emails.
What are the odds that there are text messages intentionally omitted? Setting the O/U at 100%. Any takers?
I'll take the over.
There's no need to hide anything else when they redacted 100% of the body of the texts.
Maybe Hillary has some contacts???
There is some pure gold in the e-mail dump. And I'm only 15 pages into the 1840 e-mails!

Not sure 32-1 is THAT good of a record in online X-Box play; all things considered.
Just perusing a little through the texts. This isn't really related to Zach Smith stuff, but it's about recruiting and I found it interesting. They're attempting to zero in on Marcus Washington. Talks a little about negative recruiting against Missouri a mention about some "illegal time" with Missouri by Zach and a little smack talk about beating Stanford on a couple guys.
Ultimately Washington commits to OSU, then decommits and pulls the trigger for good with Texas in late October.
Other than that "illegal time" bit (hilarious) there's not actually anything in here that seems unusual. Just a glimpse at the staff end of the crazy world of recruiting. Notice the stuff they're talking with dad about--playing time, moving to safety, the issue that OSU might just recruit over Washington if he doesn't turn out to be a star--reasonable stuff.
It must be so bananas to be involved in that process.
BTW big-time programs, including OSU and most others at this level, will absolutely move on to the next guy if a guy doesn't pan out, so Carl's concerns are well-founded.
Yeah exactly. And then the debate about whether the contrast "graphics" package they use would be effective at all. When it comes down to it, they're just using old faithful "tv time" and "playing time."
Wondering about the Wypler recruitment, he's a 2020 kid, would something like this cause him to rethink OSU?
Typical Friday afternoon news release
There will be nothing ground breaking. Important stuff would have been redacted or deleted.
Spineless
New phone. Who dis?
OSU and MSU are continuous clown shows. If we can start beating both things would get very fun. This off the field shit coming out of these programs is never ending
And how many of those texts are the ones that he deleted? How many texts are omitted from the report?
Survey says.....more than zero.

Indeed. Clearly obvious things are obvious. But you're apparently only allowed to point out the obvious if you beat him.
Sounds like a novel you just can't pick up.
There have been some interesting tidbits on Steve Lorenz Twitter feed.
Meyer telling Zach Smith to turn down another job offer.
Suggestion that leaking Bama offered jobs to Zach, Schiano and Grinch would help recruiting.(Implication is that Bama offered Zach Smith before Gattis)

This one shows Meyer mentioning Giles Jackson and not knowing who Brian Bresee was. Bresee was the #1 ranked 2020 recruit and had visited OSU 3 times. Not a shock that he committed to Clemson.
Nothing to see here. You can bet they cleaned it up before releasing it for public view.

Typical Friday afternoon bs.
What I find interesting about the text messages were that it seemed coaches and their wives were apart of the conversation. I say alot of "Zach/Courtney Smith" or "Ryan/nina Day". What would be the purpose of that?
The slashes seem operative. My first guess would be that the wives aren't actually participating but that they *might* see the thread, as if to say "be careful; don't say something so-and-so mightn't like to see." Calling this more than a hypothesis would be careless. If it is true, however, it'd likely have been a policy born of past missteps/drama. And Zach's story showed no shortage of that -- which is not to present evidence for the hypothesis but to note something consistent with it.
Carr, I gotta disagree. I think it's clear Meyer has a history of forgetting the names of his coach's wife's and putting their name next to the coach's helps with that.
All mentions of ball gags, chains and penis enlargers have been redacted. Highly disappointing, if you ask me.
It's almost like Mad Hatter was in on some of those text conversations.
See below.
It took them over a year to sanitize these. Or maybe they held the records waiting for a Friday during peak vacation time? Incredible. Ohio law requires public records be produced “promptly.” Guess this is what passes for promptly in Columbus.
The same people who edited the Nixon White House tapes got their hands on these texts.
Regardless of the content released, OSU could still lie/obfuscate/stonewall/delay and the NCAA would go along with them.

"I just hope OSU doesn't fire us!"
~ NCAA
This "redacted" document that Brian retweeted is incredible.
If they want to redact everything, we can fill in the gaps...
Found this gem on page 876.
Urban: Hey, you need to return the WildmanT Ball Lifter. I told you small, not xlarge.
Smith: Not sure we can return this stuff if you wore it. Also, when are you going to pay me for this stuff. It's over $22 large.
Urban: 22 thousand? Christ Almighty. Are you ordering stuff for yourself?
Smith: sorry, auto correct. 22 hundred. I really need to pay this credit card off before my wife sees the balance.
Urban: Catch up with you later.

"Only a matter of time before he did something that did substantial harm to you or the program." - Trace Armstrong, sports agent and I guess Meyer confidant.
All class, as always.

I wonder how much Meyer is still involved with recruiting.

Releasing it on a Friday in august. What a trash institution.
Urban Meyer is a great guy....He managed to keep Aaron Hernandez out of prison at UF. I'm sure that was because of the Bible studies and family culture within the program.
