I think we can all agree that if Michigan had landed a top quarterback there would be a lot less worry. There is always the portal and/or 2024 recruiting class.

Love Mike to death, but he’s not an elite recruiter. He’s solid and can identify talent but he’s not elite. Jay Harbaugh is elite and Moore is elite. Elston is a lot like Hart. Very good at identifying and developing, but not elite at recruiting. Clinkscale is elite and I’m surprised he hasn’t help bring in more guys yet. Bellamy is still new as a college coach, but he definitely connects well. I think he’s quickly building relationships.

Minter is kind of an unknown currently, if the defense is good this year I think that helps him immensely in the future. Helow was able to bring in some good guys at Maryland, and he’s done a good job but I thought he’d be a little bit better of a recruiter thus far at Michigan than he has been. New some is also very new to recruiting and I think will get better over the next couple of years.

I think Michigan has a good recruiting staff, but it’s not fully elite. Since they’re not going “all in” on offering NIL before a player commits, I think they probably could use 1 or 2 more elite recruiters. I do think Bellamy and Newsome could become that as they show their coaching and build relationships.

But Michigan is just kind of in a weird place currently. I still believe they’ll finish with a class somewhere around 12-18 and it’ll be solid. The good news is Harbaugh and a lot of this staff are very good at developing some of the 3 stars they bring on. Thus making them more like 4 stars.

I think Moore having more responsibilities has hurt him recruiting a bit, because he’s got a lot on his plate. It’s a bad time to have your best recruiter having so much to do, when NIL is the biggest topic right now. It’ll work itself over the next 2-3 years I’m sure and in the meantime Michigan will be fine. They’ll continue bringing in good classes.

TL;DR - I know Mike personally. Great guy. Solid recruiter. Not the guy to take over for Moore as the lead recruiter. That’s probably Clinkscale and Jay Harbaugh. Possibly Newsome down the line.

Yep and now Paul Mubenga is getting crystal balls to LSU. It was said not long ago we were looking so strong at OL recruiting we could wait and see exactly who we wanted and wouldn’t have an issue with picking them up. Several have or are going elsewhere and I don’t know of any others we are in on right now. On the heels of a 2022 two man ol class, this isn’t optimal at this point in time. I’m not sure what exactly is going on with the OL recruiting but it needs to kick in gear and soon.

JH is on the National Coach of the Year watchlist (one of 20).  Going out on a limb and saying other than 1/4 of the contributors here and Cameron Stokes, not many people are predicting gloom and doom around Michigan football.

Just watched the U of M Regents meeting with Dr. Ono.  He looks like exactly what Michigan needs academically, socially, and athletically in today's changing environment. Very impressed. An A+ hire!
