NFL Combine - OSU WRs are Crazy Fast

Submitted by Mongo on March 2nd, 2019 at 10:23 PM

NFL Combine Results Says it All OSU WRs vs UM DBs ...

40 Times at the combine:

  • Parris Campbell  4.31
  • Terry McLaurin  4.35
  • Johnie Dixon  4.41

That is crazy fast and no wonder we got torched by Haskins.  Thank God they are gone.

They don't catch the ball that well, but boy are they fast.  Quick routes, an accurate QB like Haskins, and really fast WRs...that was a recipe for disaster.

All the team's that beat Osu - don't run man coverage correct?

On edit, I believe Clemson mixes it in - but it's always disguised well.

Ohio State became a national program under Tressell and when they hired Meyer it’s became even better in terms of recruiting. As a Michigan fan, I am so glad Meyer is gone because he is without a doubt a college hall of fame coach. The program, however, became slimy to get become a national powerhouse. After 20 years, Ohio State will finally descend under Ryan Day back to what it was like in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. The hiring of Mattison as the DC is a head scratcher to say the least because there are far better DC’s out there who would have jumped at the chance to coordinate the Bucks. Fans can say what they want but Day is by no means Urban Meyer and he has never been a head coach before. he may have coordinated the offense but that’s not being the head guy. Ohio State blasted Michigan this year because those players KNEW that was Meyer’s final game ON THEIR SIDELINES and they played like it. Urban prepared for the game like it was the national championship and it was to him. People give Harbaugh shit for never beating OSU but how many people have since Meyer was at the helm? No many.

Take a look at 2020 and then tell me again how osu is falling off under day. The hiring of mattison is a dumb move,  imo, but not one that will sink them. They have their dc for next year on staff (from the nfl) and this is a one year gig for gmatt. Puzzling as it may be,  is it really a big loss for Michigan? I don't think so,  it gave Michigan an opportunity to get younger and hopefully stop the negative recruiting against.   Back to ohio state.  They have way too much talent on their roster to regress this year. Justin fields is a 6-1 odds Heisman candidate. If,  and he probably will, he gets off to a good start,  look out,  osu ain't going nowhere. Michigan is going to have to go through ohio state,  and take them down head on.  Ohio state is not going to implode on themselves.  If anything,  day helps stabilize the already monstrous death machine they are.

I don't think OSU is going to fall off significantly right away, but it's a bit much to expect Day to be as good as Meyer. Meyer is one of the best of the best. We can hate him all we want, but he had an undefeated season at Utah, then national championships (multiple at Florida) at his next two head coaching stops. Day, meanwhile, has a very mediocre track record outside of his two years as co-OC at Ohio State.

Paye wasn't injured was he? How come we never blitzed Bush or the viper guy (can't remember his name - must be because he didn't make many big plays) ?

Do we ever do a corner of safety blitz?

Meyer prepared for "the game" like he always has. He knows how important it is. That loss sent our program into disarray. Players quitting etc.

Don Brown trots out a D that Urban knew exactly what plays to get mismatches against.

On offense ...we have our 3 best receivers on the bench on a 3rd & 10.... & throw to some scrawny walk on.

All valid points,  however,  the walk on did draw the interference penalty.  So,  in all fairness,  that play actually worked.  Had he caught it,  harbs would be lauded as the greatest play caller ever.  Thay play,  imo, isn't a bad call in that situation.  But only that play.  The rest of the game plan sucked.

Yes, Gary is a total beast in shorts and a tee shirt. He is good, not great, player in pads. To me, most disappointing player in UM history.  The hype was so through the roof. He was never even the best player on our DL. Good luck to him

Speed kills, but talent and effort is most important.  Michael Thomas is the most productive wr in the NFL, and I think he ran a 4.6.  That said, Parris Campbell hits a whole new gear when he has space, as Devin Bush learned a few months back.

Why didn't we have Ambry covering Paris? He could hang with him I would think.?

We have a few like that I think.?

They just don't play for some reason. The rb that did the nice td run against Fla that got called back - he seems fast. Ambry is for sure fast. Not sure who else is...?

They’re gone, but others will take their place who are just as good. That production isn’t going anywhere.

Thats why I didn’t really understand the “thank god that guy has graduated/declared” mindset with OSU players. They’re a plug and play. When someone leaves, another one takes his place.

Does anyone else find it strange that Parris Campbell is only 21 years old as a departing redshirt senior?

How was Campbell a 16 year old true freshman?!

It will really depend on the creativity of the offensive coaches Campbell gets in the NFL.

I don't think Campbell's ceiling is as a pure wideout because he is a bit below average as a catcher (i.e. a lot of body catches), but if a coach like Sean McVay gets ahold of him, and uses him like the Panthers' use Christian McCaffery... that'll be magic.

Then again, Ted Ginn Jr. finally improved his brick hands after 10+ years in the NFL, so maybe Campbell can too.
