OSU, Bama, and Georgia all already have more than 5 top 100 players, LSU has 4 and pending a not terrible hire will get more, Clemson, and Tennesse already have 3 each and at least one fo them will get 2 more.  All of those teams would finish above us in recruiting ranking if we can't get more than 5 top 100 guys.

I must say it is interesting at both not just how moderate our recruiting has been--particularly in light of our product on the field--but also, just how unheard of Ohio State's (in particular) recruiting has been going.

I mean, they currently have SIX 5-star recruits, and are in the running for possibly 5-7 more 5-stars. I'm not a recruitnik or anything, but from my recall, that would be absolutely unprecedented, by a wide margin, ("the likes of which even Alabama has never seen"/dune-reference).

And yes I understand how postive-feedback looped recruiting is, not to mention all the built-in confirmation bias.

It's just, OSU is already an outlier in recruiting, and if they close the year picking up even a fraction of those potential 5-stars, they would be an outlier amongst outliers and an historical hall, by a very wide margin.

Anybody know why that is? This year in particular?

Hall I can understand, but St. Juste should be in every Top 300 there is. He performed great at the opening and from what I can tell and solid senior season. Put him at any power high school in the states and he's highly ranked across the board

You can add as targets...

RB Cam Akers #4

RB Stephen Carr #8

Believe both or at least one will be taking an official to Michigan. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Bama, UGA, and LSU already. It's depressing (IMO) because UM is ranked 4 on the field, JH has built great national momentum, it's his critical third class, recruits rave about AA visits ... yet UM is dramatically behind OSU and lacking any top 100 commits. Saban had the #1 class his 2nd season and almost every year thereafter. Class rankings matter. UM will not even challenge for the #1 class and might miss the top 5. We will play with a talent deficit probably 3 of 4 years vs OSU. After 10 years in the wilderness, it seemed like UM should have flipped the tables this year in recruiting.

Yeah that's the thing with recruiting, there is a reason Alabama and osu don't have drop offs when they lose starters every year and it's because they bring in a lot of truly elite talent, not just very good. So far this class for Michigan is mostly just really good. Really good can play with osu on an off day, to beat them at their best we need elite, that means dpj, Leatherwood, browning, holmes, not a bunch of sleepers we flip from bc. Those guys might be legit in a few years but losing to osu for 2 years while we develop guys isn't a recipe for long term sustained success.

I don't really know what that has to do with what I said.... All I said is we are currently leading for or have commitments from 8 of the top 100 on 247, and there's a handful more that are extremely high on us and have us at the top of their lists (guys like Leatherwood, Harris, Filiaga, Wills, Browning)

Telling myself to not get my hopes up, but he at least has some interest. Otherwise Harbaugh wouldn't be flying across the country just to meet him.

If we can topple OSU at the end of the season, that could make things verrrrry interesting.

Just going to keep telling myself he's going to Bama until he says otherwise, but if he did come here....wow.

He would change our entire offense,
