Who do the Pistons pick at 5?

I think there's a tier of 1-4 (Chet, JSJ, Paolo, Ivey), then the next tier is pretty equal IMO. Next tier IMO is Murray, Mathurin, Sharpe, Sochan, Duren, Griffin Daniels and I don't think there's alot of separation between those guys.
Double post.
Jaden Ivey reminds me of a player the Pistons passed on a few drafts back, Donovan Mitchell. Not saying he will be a dominant scorer like Mitchell but they were similar in college. Both were athletic, downhill scorers that had questionable decision making at times. No free agent 2 will sign here, so I think the Pistons will roll the dice on Ivey.
Shut your whore mouth, we're getting Ayton dammit!! Let us dream for now
Maybe you misunderstood, a 2 is a shooting guard. I’m hoping Ayton does sign here.
Duh, my bad Eastside I was in such a hurry to wish it into existence I forgot the whole reading is fundamental part.
I'm fine with how things shook out for the Pistons. Knowing the Kings are at 4, I'd be willing to bet the owner will overrule basketball operations and pick someone who shouldn't be taken at the slot. Pistons will benefit from this one way or another.
Also, many Pistons fans seem to forget that Weaver has a pretty good draft track record so far; there haven't been any Mateen Cleaves/Rodney White/Darko Milicic/Henry Ellenson/Sekou Doumbouya-type busts yet and most of the 2nd round picks have contributed and/or shown promise, including Livers.
Odds are that Ivey or Murray will be available. I would take either of them over Chet and possibly Paolo.
I just don't get why they do the actual lottery in a back room with no cameras. Why introduce that seed of doubt about the legitimacy? It's not like they're making a big spectacle of it anyway so it's not for drama. The whole thing went down in ten minutes.
1. Because during the actual draw the #1 pick is assigned first, followed by #2, etc. and it makes more sense for the drama of it if the league to reveals the picks in reverse order.
2. The actual process is pretty tedious. They're drawing four numbered ping pong balls out of a group of 14, with a mandatory 20-second mix before the start of each sequence, and a mandatory 10-second mix before drawing each ball in the sequence. That adds up. Plus, there is a chance they would have to redo a sequence if the numbers they draw a team that has already been selected. It would not make good television.
There are cameras, it's just not aired live. Just yesterday I watched last year's draft lottery on YouTube, it's kinda boring. Pistons came up twice and they had to redraw.
I'm firmly in the Sharpe camp. I've never seen him play basketball but I like his name.
Murray joins Luka Garza on the Piston Hawkeyes. Fits the team personality as well.
They also have a decent second round pick to take a Euro flyer on.
I just googled it based on the board here but the Thunder have 14 1st round picks in the next 4 years. That's 3.5 a year. Wow!
i wouldn't touch jaden ivey with a 23-foot stepback jumper.
I had no interest in Ivey top 3 and think he has the highest bust potential of the Big 4, including Chet, but I would very happily take him at 5. I think you gamble on the upside of Ivey or Sharpe at 5. There are guys more likely to slot into a rotation as a solid role player in the next tier but you're probably hoping for a solid 3&D guy (Murray, Griffin, Mathurin) or someone like Sochan/Duren to make huge leaps skill wise. Ill take the boom/bust potential of one of the top two guards and see if the dice roll works out.
