This is my shocked face: Tennessee avoids Bowl ban despite 200 known infractions
This is 100x worse than what OSU, USC, UM or PSU (that was not an NCAA issue as horrible as it was) did.
Its time for the big ten to start using its leverage. Of all the things fans get up in arms about we just let this shit slide. We get so happy to see a fellow Big Ten team take a hefty penalty while the SEC gets free passes. Tennessee will be in 1 or 2 playoffs the next couple seasons after the worst findings since SMU. Ridiculous.
Were there hamburgers involved?
Scholarship reductions are a freaking joke in the age of NIL.
I won't pretend that $8 million is nothing, but even the NCAA has to know this ruling is a joke. Then again, these days the only schools that the NCAA can punish are the schools that allow the NCAA to punish them.
No one cares
Time to hang up the banners at Crisler
Let's be real; you don't "avoid" a bowl ban these days. You pretty much have to demand one.
They are just lucky they didn't have 20 total extra minutes of stretching during summer practices.
THEN they would have found out!
My friend, John Currie, was the AD and within his first year he had to fire Butch Jones, who had some success early but struggled in his last couple years.
The search was wild from the start. Beverly Davenport - the Chancellor at the time set the requirement that they must have a sitting coach from a power 5 school or extensive power 5 HC experience, she told me that herself.
But with Tennessee anytime we had a coaching change the John Gruden circus had to start. Gruden would never just say he wasn't interested but was impossible to negotiate with. He wasn't interested in coaching in college. I felt that he liked the attention of being a candidate. His wife went to UT and he had property in the area. So the fanbase really wanted him.
It took a few days for Gruden to tell us no, which is an eternity when you have a search to do and everyone would like to think you are making progress. So next John offered a list of candidates: Jeff Brohm, and about 5 others. They all rejected his offers.
Then John reached out to Gregg Schiano. The fanbase went nuts. They linked him to Jerry Sandusky because they coached together for a few years at Penn State. Beverly Davenport fired John immediately and there was Phil Fulmer, like a vulture. Fulmer hired Pruitt who had no power 5 head coaching experience.
John Currie is now the AD at Wake Forest and is doing a fine job. Schiano is back at Rutgers and they like him.
Donde Plowman - The current chancellor fired Pruitt as soon as she learned about his recruiting methods and she is a person of high ethical integrity. Her efforts saved UT from more punishment.
This is how damaged the NCAA is. The Tennessee NIL law kept them from the bowl ban:https://www.on3.com/college/tennessee-volunteers/news/tennessee-attorne…;
I think this is the big story here. The Tennessee attorney general threatened to sue the NCAA if they imposed a bowl ban because he believes it would violate Tennessee NIL law and the NCAA caved. The NCAA has limited jurisdiction at best to enforce their rules. That’s the story.

NCAA continuing to show its increasing lack of relevancy
If the rules are not enforced, and there are no penalties for breaking them, the fools are the ones still following them
I mean, it's not like they bought someone a hamburger.
Bowl bans are not a big deal IMO as they aren't even taking serious anymore. Most of the best players sit out. Scholarship reduction and recruiting visits etc are more effective in a punishment along with big money fines. But 200 Infractions and they should be banned from playoffs also for next 3 years.
Spot on. No playoffs for you after this crap. Players can transfer away.
