Morris sporadic substitutions = Big trick play?

Submitted by trueblue262 on

I'm sure this has been discussed in gamethreads and snowflake threads, but wanted to get general thoughts on  what could be coming with the Morris QB packages. It seems like maybe we are setting like a "smokescreen" if you will,  with a few plays....., maybe setting up something for a specific game later on the schedule maybe? I like the idea of it......feel free to discuss, even if it is again

My wife said that after the second time they ran it this season...so if she can see that, I'm pretty sure OSU can put the pieces together.

Since that trick is so obvious, I wonder if the trick play is that he ALWAYS hands the ball off.  OSU would be preparing for the trick pass that never comes.

But overall, I say scrap the dang play all together and run more "trick" plays out of other established formations.

is that the formation and movements will always be similar, but we will sneak someone out for the pass who will be WIDE open, and someone OTHER than Morris will end up throwing the pass.  (Fuck off Urban, I didn't post this for your eyes, and I'm just a fan dude who doesn't know shit.)

The narrative that he wasn't prepared seems based mostly on speculation and the result of the game; OSU was just better.  Durkin ran the defense he knows, but it was down a couple of players and ran into a better unit.  Lots of asisstant coaches are looking for new jobs during the year; if UM's offense struggles in a game are we going to blame Fisch or Wheatley, or if the defense gives up 40 to OSU is that because Zordich is looking around?

Durkin didn't screw Michigan; they just got beat.

Exactly!! People have been running with the "he was too busy interviewing" theory for almost a year now. If it was going to inconvenience preparation for OSU, it wouldnt have happened. Harbaugh was his boss for Christ sake. He doesn't half do anything. They were just better than us and caught us without DTs just like Indiana did.

So it doesn't take any time or energy to interview for a new job, talk with your family about a major relocation and make a well-thought through decision?

I'm not saying it lost them the game, but I also don't understand those who say it didn't have any bearing whatsoever on the preparation for The Game.

I agree other than Screw Durkin, he has done U of M no disservice and is in good standing.

We can be butthurt arm chair coaches but OSU was the better team last year, hurts to say but a different DC or one not interviewing at Maryland IMO wouldn't have made that much of a difference.

A reverse will definitely come out of it.  Hopefully to McDoom.  Beyond that, it seems they commit the ball to the running back so quickly that a run fake deep ball is eliminated as an option.

thought that too, but it was pointed out to me (again, by Space Coyote I think) that the play design really does not lend itself to a reverse because there would be nobody to block it wide coming back the other way.  It could be that they haven't shown all of the formations out of that look yet though.

think they may have initially been setting something up, but since literally nothing has really worked out of the package, I don't know how much more you will see it.   I think it was Space Coyote that may have had the right idea, that they may do some kind of throw back out of the sweep look.

It could be that they have just been setting up the trap that Malik McDowell ate for an afternoon snack last Saturday and that we won't see it again.

I actually thought that trap was a great playcall against MSU -- definitely broke a tendency.  Hoping that's the last time we have to face McDowell -- great player.
