MLK Day Pos Bang? Yes.

We got Maryland. We nearly got Iowa. We may have a player named McDoom. Seems like a good morning for a pos-bang. Happy Birthday to the good Doctor. Thanks for the day off.

Get up early, and go to the Lincoln Memorial.  About two landings below the statue of Lincoln is a plaque that shows you right where Dr. King was when he gave one of the top five speeches in American history.  A speech that still resonates today.

Early in the day there are usually no crowds to speak of, and you can really take it in.  Stand in the spot, and look off at the reflecting pool, and soak it in.  Imagine the crowds and the power of the moment.

RIP, Dr. King.

and you STILL are on this site all day? Exercise in futility indeed. I'm on here because I'm bored at work. You mean you don't get paid to scroll through twitter from home? Your life must be AWESOME!!!

Although I have been off for a couple weeks now anyway recovering, I actually do get today off as a holiday normally, so there's that at least.

One quote in his enormous arsenal of quotable moments that I always thought was both excellent and generally applicable in life:

"Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientous stupidity".

A genuinely wise and courageous man.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

My firm is a Federal contractor, and yet we don't get today off. All of my Federal, state and foundation clients are off, and I'm not.

But...I work from home. Say no more.

U-M dedicates the entire week to MLK and puts on terrific events and speaking engagements honoring MLK and speaking about issues of race/diversity in contemporary America. I highly encourage anyone interested to check it out! The events last year were quite powerful.
