Minnesota vs Boston U Hockey Frozen Four - Thursday Open Thread
The game before our game. The calm before the storm. Gophers in regulation? Somebody win in regulation, plz.
5 PM ET on ESPN2
Our game is scheduled for 8:30. Separate game thread will be up later, but I'll post some U-M stuff here.
I basically agree with your reservations, though I can understand the calls at least in theory. They are definitely ticky-tack, though, especially with the benefit of replay.
That last charging call is something you just need to talk to the guy about.
…and another 5-on-3 to start the third.
Minnesota has no business losing this game.
(And just to be clear they look decisively better).
This game is either going to end with BU squeaking by with the smallest of margins or Minn blowing them out in the 3rd.
100%. This is agonizing to watch because it looks so familiar.
Feels like a 3-2 OT win for BU to me. But that's the Michigan fan who has seen this script a ton.
Shots: MN 9, BU 10, tot 22, 17.
If BU can kill off these penalties, will it provide momentum to get the next goal?
Killed the second of three.
MN PPG, 3-2 them.
Naturally the bullshit penalty is the one they score on.
That was a wicked wristah.
Too bad.
They looked like they were gonna somehow kill all that
Took 3 minutes but Minnie gets the go-ahead on the PP.
Guess the plot of the third is now set.
It seems invetible that MN is going to win.
I would love to face them again, at least we know them.
Close doesn't really scare me.
single elimination keeps me so on my toes....uhlll
And that's game
MN goal, 4-2.
First 5 on 5 goal
BU's first goal was.
Yeah I meant Minnesota's first. They're obviously a really good 5 on 5 team, but they're not GREAT. We're probably better. But their special teams are way better than ours.
I don’t think we can conclude that Michigan is “probably” better. 5 games played so far and Michigan was worse in 3, roughly even in 1, and better in 1. That 1 is the most recent and it was on the road, but this is an outstanding Minnesota team and they are quite capable of controlling the game 5-on-5, even against Michigan. If we get that chance.
Can't count the first two, when we had half a team.
Ssshhhhhhhh, maybe they won’t notice.
In the split, 3 of their 8 were power play goals. We scored all 8 of ours 5 on 5. And the Big Ten title game felt similar.
And that’s that. Minnie pouring it on. Good call CRG.
Well, fuck. A common opponent in the championship… it seemed inevitable that Minnesota was going to win. They have had so many chances.
Letting Hutson getting out of Holland is annoying.
Now, it’s under three (3) minutes left in the 3rd, Gophers still up 4-2.
At this point all I want is our game. Boston looks screwed and the only scenario they could possibly win at this point is overtime and I can't stand the thought of waiting even longer for our game even though in theory overtime benefits us.
Hooking on BU @ 13:27.
Whistle has been so favorable for the Gophers that they didn't even boo that last semi-trip no call.
Close lost the puck out to the right side of the net, but BU couldn't pounce.
BU empty net.
MN ENG, 5-2. Fuck Cooley.
Hutson's really the only skater for BU who felt like he belonged.
Wade Gustafson is tickled pink.
Fer sure dontcha know.
ENG
I know we're theoretically rooting for Boston but I found myself sitting here thinking about nothing but our game and couldn't get into this at all.
I want to win this tournament. If not us then I don't really care. I know Minnesota is a hockey rival for us but I don't hate them the way I hate Ohio and seeing them lose today would do absolutely nothing to make me feel better in the event we lose.
Boston would've been easier win next round but we can beat both of these teams.... And we can also lose to both. The only thing that matters is what we do. If we play at our best we will not lose. If we don't, well.... let's not find out.
The more I watched it, the more I thought BU can't skate with either team.
Plus fuck Logan Cooley.
MN wins 6-2.
Gophers are on their feet.
Feels like there was damn near a full letter grade separating those teams. A+/B+ maybe, but Minny clearly the better squad. Didn't love some of the penalties, but that wasn't the story tonight.
Yeah I would agree. Even when it was tied Boston never looked like they belonged. Would've loved to play them Saturday but I suppose if we want the title it's only right we beat the team that's been #1 basically all season ... For the third time.
