Really hope things work out for him down at Tennessee, but its going to be a hard mountain to climb for him. Alabama, Georgia and Florida all on the schedule. Those are all going to be some serious whoopings that Tennessee is about to take. Couple that with several other teams on Tennessee's schedule that are well within their capabilities to beat them.

Tennessee is in far worse shape than Michigan is right now, and while Milton has every opportunity to prove me wrong, I'm not all that confident that he will. But it was hard for me to get really high on a player who wasn't able to even crack 50% passing in high school. You can have all the other tools, but if you're not an accurate thrower, it makes no difference.

I'd rather have a QB who can't throw more than 20-30 yards downfield, but when the ball leaves his hands I have no concerns about it hitting the turf, going into the stands or into the arms of an opposing defender.

If Milton's underwhelming showing last year had been largely due to injury/bad line/covid mess, I think he would have had a fair shot to win the job this summer. He was by all accounts a well-respected player within the program. I doubt he was shown the door. So the likeliest reason for his departure is that he didn't see himself winning the job at M and chose to try his luck elsewhere. Which is his right. But that's not necessarily something the program could control.

Exactly. Harbaugh stuck with him until midway through the Rutgers game. Then they played one more game, and while he didn’t start, he came into the game when McNamara got hurt. I would be surprised if Harbaugh said anything to Milton except there was going to be a QB competition at Michigan in 2021. Milton decided to go elsewhere; Harbaugh didn’t push him out the door. In fact, the QB room was quite barren until Bowman transferred in.

Well we care way to much about a player who doesn’t play here anymore OSU just keeps getting better. We have no playmakers on offense. No real game breakers. Osu said today they have a 6 wr rotation. We’re not that guy pal

Yeah, well I'll be more interested to follow N. Colorado with Tru and Dylan this year.

There's ex-Michigan guys...And there's ex- Michigan guys.

I see Joe Milton as a VERY interesting case. Because there's several subjects, questions, and narratives revolving around his success, or lack thereof:

1. Does Harbaugh pick the wrong ponies? If Milton continues to struggle, what does that say about Harbaugh and the coaching staff? We've seen Harbaugh's "stick with your guy" philosophy pay off...and crash and burn. This leads directly into...

2. No matter what, Harbaugh & co. mismanaged the McCaffery/Milton/McNamara situation. I have no idea what went on behind the scenes, but recruiting Dylan McCaffery and Joe Milton, then losing them both with only 4 (?) starts - 3 of them absolute disasters - to show for it...is not good. Needing a desperate come-from-behind win vs. Rutgers makes me sick to my stomach, but we saw for the rest of the season that our offense seems to REGRESS each week, no matter who the QB is.

3. If Joe Milton succeeds, is that necessarily an indictment on Michigan? Knee-jerk says yes, but I'm not so sure. People don't become the best version of themselves in every single scenario. It does kinda feel like Michigan is always on the short side of these situations though.

4. The ongoing QB Transfer Saga. We've seen repeatedly that QBs who transfer get rewarded. Folks may grumble about loyalty and development, but Milton would be in a serious uphill battle if he had stayed. Winning the starting job elsewhere shows everyone who is watching that you can redeem yourself without having to re-prove yourself to the coach who benched you. Although my $1 would have been on Milton starting Week 1 if he had stayed. And Week 2. And Week 3.

5. Finally, I'm rooting for Joe Milton. I'm rooting for Brandon Peters and Dylan McCaffery. I rooted for Wilton Speight. I, uh, did not root for Ryan Mallett.

No it won't. Not to those who understand.  Milton is an uber athlete playing QB but there's more to it than just that.    Maybe a good example is Mike McMahon the Lions QB. Elite athlete but didn't know how to play, like Milton.  He might look good at first and that's because what he learned from Harbaugh.

Good for Milton. I hope he has a successful season. Too bad he looked so good in practice here and during the first game but then slipped in his on the field performances. He did not want to be a backup here, so glad he found a team where he can start.

I’m late to this party but needed to add my $.02 worth…

How does this reflect poorly on Harbaugh? Harbaugh took a flyer on Milton and (if he pans out) will be proven right. Harbaugh had Milton for 2 years. Must have had some influence on his development.

Milton chose to leave. He didn’t get run off. He probably saw Cade and JJ and decided he wasn’t up to the task.

Harbaugh getting criticism for Milton and Dylan starting elsewhere makes zero sense to me. Both would still be here if Harbaugh had his way.

It’s the portal era man. Get used to it.
