A group of Michigan Students is attempting to orgainze and name the Football student section. The new name: The Victor's Corner

Coach Harbaugh seems to be all for it!!

From what i observed at the Ohio game last year, it wasn't the students who had problems showing up. After all, what is worse than showing up 5-10 minutes late, if not SELLING YOUR TICKETS TO THE OTHER TEAM'S FANS?

I think it should be like "The Spirit of Yost" (I'm not creative but just something like that) ppl don't realize how much Yost did for this football program. Something needs to be named after him in football. Schembechler doesn't talk about our rich history without Yost, we don't have this stadium without Yost. I know we have a seat "reserved" for him, but if the student section wants a name and the football stadium can't be named after him it makes sense to put some Yost in it

I would strongly urge them to use their new found collective bargaining powers to return "Victors Corner" into the section I knew and loved as a student so they will need to return the following three things post-haste:

1. Pony kegs (anything not glass was allowable)

2. Marshmellow throwing

3. Passing up of students (mostly coeds)

It was a LOT more of a party back in the day.....

All of this. I know it'll never happen, but the student section seems to have lost some identity over the years. I saw a major decline as a student, but we were also in the middle of the RR years so that could be why.

 

Still, even as a student, it was a chore to get people to get loud and be invested in the game. Giving students something to anticipate could get them more engaged, something like eagerly awaiting a TD because we get to throw marshmallows. Getting them loud was the biggest issue, but pony kegs might help loosen some lips...not like that.

I take issue with "Michigan students working to..." when the football student advisory council is a group of students hand-picked by the AD. Student sections should be meritocracies that work on their own, not opportunities for the AD to exert control over the entire experience.

a "GO BLUE" on all our kickoffs ?  This isn't that tough (not attacking the you suck cheer).  BFGS ... why do we yell .... awawawawawawawawawaw and then do nothing when the ball is kicked ?

I don't think this is a bad idea. Might help with attendance/involvment of the students if they feel some sort of connection outside of just going to the game and it might allow better organization of the students (self organization obviously because someone trying to impose their will on a bunch of 18-22 year olds never works lol)

Like a few others have said it's the student section, let them do with it what they want. Especially when it's completely harmless like this. It's always amazing all the games that I go to and how many people just get so up in arms and complain about the littlest things. You're at a football game, it should be loud, people should be rowdy, trying to help the team in anyway they possibly can. If we get rid of that you suck chant can we just five everyone a medal for participating? Quit being so soft.

I like Michigan Football/the student section not having a name etc... It isn't like Yost/Basketball - the thing is packed no matter who the team is playing.

Big, unorganized, chaos....the student section does not need organization. Let me tell you - the attempted organization by Dave Brandon and friends (e.g. roping students in before 2013 Notre Dame/giving away donuts was NOT well received).

Just calling it The Student Section is great by me.

But if it gets an official name it's no big deal to me.  I guess, as others have said, if it helps get the students into the stadium on time for kickoff, it's all good.

CoY and Maize Rage work because they can function as student orgs since only a relatively small percentage of the student body has season tickets to hockey or basketball.  A core group of a few hundred can lead a couple thousand--all of whom are dedicated sports fans.

When your "group" is a majority of the University, that model isn't going to work.
