Michigan still doesn't belong in the BCS ? ? ?

Submitted by rockydude on

If you go to the CBS Sportsline college football page, you will see that they have a poll about halfway down the page. The question is "Did Michigan's Win Prove It Belonged in a BCS Bowl?" Currently, 68% of their sage viewers voted NO !

Does this mean there was some bot sabotage, or merely that 30,000 monkeys all figured out how to log onto the internet at the same time, or what?

Seems implausible to me that after actually winning a BCS game, 68% of people voting would think that we don't even belong in a BCS game. Is there mischief afoot, or just a whole lot of haters?

(It is more likely that 30,000 monkeys can use the internet than 30,000 Sparties IMHO)

Well we looked pretty bad against a team most people thought didn't deserve to be there so I am not that surprised.

That being said, what does it matter what they think?

Because all the other games have been two teams that look in perfect form? You take a month and a half off celebrate holidays and visit your family you lose a step or two. The defense gave up one touchdown. You tell RVB and MM they played like crap. Tell Junior while you're at it........

usc always looked pretty good, boise seems to play well, Utah seems to play well, lsu seems to play well, etc etc.

i wish I didn't have to state the obvious next, but absolutely nothing in this comment is relates to M at all. just pointing out that saying "teams play worse in bowl games" is not factually supported.

Who gives a shit what people think, everyone who is not a Michigan fan hates on them with a passion. Take this article for instance, at first I got pretty pissed off after reading it but then realized its a bunch of bitches writing these things.

Michigan played poorly and STILL won, isnt that a sign of a good team, jeez what would happen if they played well?   I respond to all these shitty articles by saying "I love the hate, keep it coming....Go Blue!"

These kind of arguements are going to go nowwhere.  It was already decided before the game even started that VT and UM didn't "belong" in the BCS.  If UM blows VT out, then it doesn't prove anything because VT never should have been there in the first place.  If VT blows out UM, then the same argument applies.  If both score a ton of points, then it's just another game with no defense thus showing neither team should have been there anyway.  If a defensive game is played, as this was, then both suck too.  Every year you can argue that the entire top 18 or so could be in the BCS.  It just doesn't shake out that way though.

....that there are a few fanbases out there that are simply consumed with bitterness. Putting stock in a CBS Sportsline poll is a lot like allowing Bernie Madoff set up a Roth IRA for you. The poll question might as well be "Clamming - Bad Or Timely?"

It doesn't matter. I've read articles all day today and watched ESPN as journalists shit all over Michigan's Sugar Bowl victory. But you know what? I'm ok with that. These people can go on being bitter about something they had no part in. Nothing can take away the feeling I had last night as I watched Gibbons' kick split the uprights from the upper deck of the Superdome. Nothing can take away the unbridaled joy you saw in our team. Nothing can take away the flood of emotion that Junior Hemingway expressed after being awarded the MVP trophy. Nothing can take away all of the richly deserved accolades that the seniors earned. I won't remember what some media blowhards pontificate about the next day or what internet tough guys post on message boards or how they vote in online polls.

I'll be too busy remembering Team 132, a team that I'll adore for the rest of my life.

I agree.  Team 132 allowed me the opportunity to attend my first ever bowl game, first ever visit to nawlins (on NYE no less), an opportunity to meet some of my fellow MgoBloggers at Cooter Browns (shout out to MGrowOld and his lovely wife), and the first opportunity to visit the gulf coast states.

This is my first year as a M Grad Student and Team 132 gave me the opprotunity to attend the first ever UTL game at the Big House as well as Nebraska's first visit.  No one can take these memories way from me (except for my neices who try to kill me.  /s).

Thank You Team 132, Coach Hoke and Staff, and yes even thanks to RR for recruiting many of the players on Team 132.  Thanks to DB (gulp, double gulp) for not selling the M soul for crazy unis for the Sugar Bowl and for not having a mascot this year.

Long live Michigan and may God give peace to every one of you in the Michigan Family.

Hemingway had the best game of his career. Agreed.

Also Gibbons did work.

You can't say we have looked worse this season though right? Maybe the MSU game... maybe.

Pretty sure every reasonable fan knows we played like shit which means every non fan thinks we played like shit and thusly we shouldn't have been in the Sugar Bowl.

if you can't understand why an impartial observer watching last night's game might think M was lucky to even be there...then I dont know what to tell you. your point is irrelevant in regards to the comment you responded to. im sure dudeness knows we won; I don't think he's arguing that point

I am so sick of hearing that "Denard has been getting lucky all year thowing the ball up for grabs".  At what point if it keeps working is it not lucky?  At what point is someone going to mention that Hemmingway always comes down with it so its not lucky?

I also think it's funny that people think Denard is the first Michigan QB we've had where we've tossed the ball up and told big, physical WR to "go get it".  We've been running this play long before D-Rob came along.

Michigan State:  0 BCS games in the BCS era.

Heck, if we want to get generous and look at the current BCS games before the BCS, there probably isn't a single guy on the Michigan State roster who was alive for the '88 Rose Bowl.

Haters gonna hate.  And invariably go to a Florida bowl game not held in Miami.
