Here is the coaching snowflakes thread....barely, as we keep getting server errors.

I like Harbaugh.  He stabilized the program after the RR/Hoke fiascos, but if you can’t win a big game EVER, there’s no point in him sticking around.

Seems to me that in the second half, MSU's coaches called a creative offensive game that kept our team on its heels. I thought that was pretty impressive coaching. And, yeah, pretty depressing.

There's lots of good discussion in this thread, other than the vitriol, and lots to think about.

Right now my observation is that it's pretty much dependent on dumb luck to improve by changing coaches. There are too many examples of formerly great programs that went for the hot new ticket, only to have that work out badly.

Michigan's two hires preceding Harbaugh were not good. Tennessee has been a hot mess. USC went into mediocrity. Texas has done little. Florida? Where are they now? Florida State? Nebraska, disaster.

I could go on, but the point is...changing coaches doesn't work out all that often. Harbaugh was a hire who has, on balance, improved the program. There's a certain amount of 'hire the proven guy' in that, and a certain amount of luck.

Do we need more imaginative play-calling? Probably. And why has the defense been mysteriously cursed with its inability to stop certain kinds of short pass plays year after year, including lots of years preceding Harbaugh? Beats me.

Trouble is, coaches don't come with guarantees. Picking one's a crap shoot.

Much that has been said is true. on the other hand the same people were saying pre season that this team was 7-5 or even 6-6 what happened to them, McDonald stunk up the place yesterday . the special team coach J Harbaugh has done a great job.

Nothing new under the sun. Harbaugh is good enough to prepare a team to be a winner yet he sucks ass at actually producing one.

Mediocrity reigns in Ann Arbor and to hell with all of you asses still defending him.

We're never winning with him.

Though the team is better this year than last year's terrible product, Harbaugh is still a shit coach who needs to be relieved in a few weeks. First game against a legit team this year (sorry Wisconsin) and he shits himself by blowing multiple double digit leads. The guy simply cant get it done on the road and is a failure at Michigan - just not quite the failures that Hoke/RRod were.

Face it, these days, Harbaugh can't win:

  • On the road
  • Against rivals
  • Against ranked teams
  • Bowl games

Maybe Warde will finally show he has some balls and fire him at season's end after losses to OSU/PSU/Bowl opponent - because those losses are looming.

"B-b-b-b-but who else can Michigan get that is as good as Harbaugh?!?!"...Don't know, but there are better coaches out there, and at least bringing in a new coach shows you are not content with mediocrity and 3rd/4th place division finishes every fucking year.

I tried to instill Michigan fandom in my daughter from a young age but she wasn’t having it. She is now 18 and happy.

Me? I’m stuck yelling things like WHY DO YOU MAKE ME LOVE YOU, MICHIGAN FOOTBALL?!

Like countless others, I was thrilled when we hired Harbaugh.  And like countless others, yesterday was the latest chapter of unqualified pain.  The question to date has been "Okay; if not Harbaugh, who should coach this team?"  For me the question has now changed to "Could anyone do worse than Harbaugh against Michigan State and Ohio State?"  If we lose to Penn State and Ohio State, Warde will have a hard time justifying Harbaugh coming back.  Remind Luke Fickell Bo earned a Master's Degree from Ohio State and Gary Moeller played for and graduated from Ohio State.

This game hinged on 2 plays, the sack, strip and score that was overturned. That is just horrible officiating and the decision to insert JH after he had fumbled on the previous possession that is horrible coaching.

The 3 penalties on defense during substitutions are also bad coaching.Picture Saban’s response to a coach allowing it to happen once not three times

The issue is that although Cade and JJ are 2 years apart as far as recruiting classes, they have the same eligibility remaining and Cade isn’t going to be an early entry NFL player so one is going to transfer. The coaching staff is trying to appease them both but at some stage they should pick a horse and go with him. That’s the unfortunate reality of college football in the transfer portal era as both of these guys are too talented to be back ups for their careers. I just hope neither of them transfers to a Big 10 contender such as PSU or Wisconsin although I can see how both destinations would make sense for them.

Willing to give Harbaugh a final chance with this year's OSU game.

* 2015: First year, team was just outclassed after halftime. Losing key players hurt. OSU was also just pissed after throwing away that game vs MSU.

* 2017: The fact that Michigan was in it late in the 4th with O'Korn at QB is actually a testament to Harbaugh's coaching.

* 2019: Honestly, players made so many stupid mistakes (fumbles, penalties, etc.) that led to the  deficit at halftime. The fact that if the RB went to the other open hole (as opposed to the wrong one) in the 4Q, the game would have been a 1 possession, shows that the team could have been close.

* 2021: This is a talented and good team. We're at home. We should be pissed after choking to MSU. This is all the recipe for a signature win for Harbaugh.

the thing is EVEN Brady Hoke beat OSU and won a NY6 Bowl game(Sugar Bowl)...Harbaugh has yet to do even that!...Hes had his chance and is clearly NOT up to the job
