Michigan Rookies Making NFL Rosters

Submitted by OwenGoBlue on September 5th, 2020 at 7:25 PM

Most of the Michigan late round/UDFA guys have made it through cut day. With COVID adjustments to camps/schedules all rookies were in for a tougher time this year and it's showing today; the Vikings drafted six guys in rounds 6-7 and none of them made the roster.

Good luck to Metellus and Vert. Sounds like both are likely headed to practice squads if they don't end up elsewhere.

From Aaron McMann:

Updates on Michigan's late-round/ undrafted players on NFL roster cut day ... Jordan Glasgow (Colts), Mike Onwenu (Patriots), Mike Danna (Chiefs), Jon Runyan (Packers) and Sean McKeon (Cowboys) all made 53-man rosters. Lavert Hill (Chiefs), Josh Metellus (Vikings) were waived.

In non rookie probably near getting cut territory, Gentry (Steelers), Taco (Chiefs), Delano Hill (Seahawks), and Jake Butt (Broncos) all made rosters.  Ben Gedeon is starting the season on the PUP list so he’s out for 6 weeks minimum.

The fact that Jake Butt still makes a roster without really having played an NFL down, hats off to that young man. Denver must really believe in him.

As they should, because he’s got a crap load of talent. But you still have to tip your hat to Butt, and Denver, for giving this kid a chance. It’s not like he was a first rounder that they had to invest several years in.

Good news and way to go Jordan Glasgow. Great to see all three brothers get to "The League". Advantageous that these Viper types get to the NFL for obvious recruiting reasons.

Happy for all of them.

Great news.  I don't quite get what's up with Lavert Hill but he went from someone I expected to be a mid-round draft pick to a UDFA who didn't make a roster.  Wish him and Metellus luck, though.

He has the talent, but he's a bit on the small side and the coaches complained a few times that he wasn't competitive enough. It always made me wonder if he really loved football and competing or whether it was just something he did because he was good at it and it provided him great opportunities.

Talent is important, but the love of the game is what allows someone to maximize their talent. If LeBron James loved basketball as much as Kobe Bryant did, the dude would have like 8 rings right now.

Love that Danna made the bigs.  A guy like that who everyone says is "too small" just keeps overachieving.

I personally believe we should celebrate athletes like this, as opposed to those w amazing God given talents who just naturally succeed and/or do stupid shit to underachieve (eg - Tiger Woods last 10 years).  Guys like Danna are true inspirations, IMO.

The back problems I think had more to do with it than the scandals.  His body has basically failed him, and you have a new crop of young, great golfers all coming up:  Rory, Rickie, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Spieth, etc.

Everything kind of came around at once:  the scandals, the new guys who are all really good, and his injuries.  I think the latter two had more to do with it than anything.  The scandals are over 10 years old.

Oops - never mind missed Late round/ UDA. My bad.

Other notable cuts - Ben Braden, Jehu Chesson, Amara Darboh, Patrick Omameh
