Michigan in the bowl projections

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

In the updated bowl projections, ESPN has Michigan playing Texas in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl in Tempe by one guy. And in the Outback Bowl in Tampa against Georgia.

Jerry Palm of CBS Sports has Michigan in the Outback Bowl against Georgia as well.

A game against Texas would be cool but that would mean Michigan would have an even worse record than they do now.

we beat UConn. we beat Akron. we were a missed FG away from beating Penn State.

we may not be a good team, but jesus christ have you watched Iowa, Nebraska and NW play? They're no better than Minnesota or Indiana or Notre Dame, two of them are arguable worse. It'd take a catastrophe for us to go 1-3 the rest of the way.

The only people posturing here are the ones who act like we're 0-8.

MSU is not going to a BCS bowl unless they win the conference.  BCS bowls do everything they can to avoid taking conference championship game losers.  And MSU would have likely no wins over ranked opponents plus they aren't a draw.

Wisconsin is way ahead of MSU in the race for a 2nd BCS birth.  Its no contest.  Also a head of State would be Clemson and the Big12 #2.

Using Massey's matchup simulator (take it for what you will):

  Georgia Michigan
Most Likely 41 31
Median 42 33
Mean 43.54 33.17
Win Probability 79% 21%
  Texas Michigan
Most Likely 38 31
Median 38 31
Mean 38.9 31.15
Win Probability 73% 28%

Actually, despite the simulated results, I like the idea of Texas better if that turned out to be the matchup, but we shall see, eh? Four games left.

I dont want a piece of either team to be honest. At this point I just want guys to stay healthy to end the season. I have zero confidence in this coaching staff changing the current stench of failure in this program.

Last I heard from our fearless leader was not winning the big ten was a failure of a season. So, yea 3 yrs now and have been failures 3 times now. Not my words...those are Coach Hokes words.

I do however see the Michigan "arrogance" is still strong with some of these posters.

Losing the Big 10 by a game is fine.  it means you were in it and probably lost to OSU at the end.  Coming in 4th or 5th or 6th?  It's failure for this program.  I know you are very young (I believe you said 18) and your teen life UM has been a pretty punk program but there was a time when 4 losses was not the expectation nor was 5th place in the Big 10.   Right now we are battling for 4th or 5th with downside to lower if we get punked at Iowa.  That is failure at this program.  Coming in 2nd and losing to OSU by 7... yeah we get it, shit happens in football.   That is not a failure even if Hoke says it is in his coachspeak.   Just use the eye test, its a team beneath the "blue blood" status UM is holding itself up to.

I remember that 2004 season. I have a very good memory and remember still being happy after The Game 2004 that Michigan was headed to the Rose Bowl and won the Big Ten. Still have my little 2004 championship t-shirt.

The present hasn't been as nice. 2011 was the best season I've experienced and can remember perfectly. I have vague memories of 2003 but I was a little kid then at 8.

Still felt like something was missing in 2011 though and it was.

Is the "promise" of the last few and next recruiting classes. Please stop with the 6-2 bullshit. This team is fortunate to be 6-2. Bullshit Minnesota is 7-2 and ahead of Michigan in the Legends. This team is horrendous right now and will be fortunate to win again this season. By the way, I am not overreacting to yesterday. I said the same thing after Indiana.

Good Lord, this place is unbearable after a loss.

No faith whatsoever in a coach that is doing things that haven't been done here in recruiting.

Hold your fucking horses people. There are still tons of problems from the last guy that was coaching here. Three OL taken in 2010-2011 classes. One is still on the roster. That's kind of a problem.

You have to be patient. I know, telling the stereotypical Michigan fan to be patient is like telling a scorpion not to sting but you have to give him time. Wait until Year 5-6.

IF Hoke is not the guy, let him recruit like he has been so the next guy will hit the ground running like meyer.

Going 11-2 in 2011 was the worst thing that could have happened to this fanbase. It made expectations go through the roof and all logic go out the window. That team was held together by bubble gum in terms of health.

Look at all the things that the coaches have been working against. Depth issues and tons of injuries this season. Specifically on the offensive side of the ball. Drake Johnson & Amara Darboh, two players who were highly touted for their fall camp didn't even make it to UTL II.

Carr's 1998 recruiting class with Drew Henson, Justin Fargas, David Terrell, Marquise Walker, Cato June, Victor Hobson, Larry Foote, Benny Joppru, Hayden Epstein, Julius Curry, Todd Howard, Dan Rumishek, Shawn Lazarus, etc blows away any class Hoke has had. Don't spew bullshit please.

Let's hope not, for a couple ofreasons.....

First, we'd get our proverbial doors blown off.......(memories of the Gator Bowl come to mind)

Second, we'd be another BIG 10 embarrassment (memories of two of the last three bowls come to mind)

Maybe we could take on a MAC team in that Detroit Pizza bowl, unless it was Akron becuase they are WAY too scary to play twice in one year.......no wait, they aren't bowl eligible, just like UConn.

(Maybe it's just post-MSU realizations of mortality, but I have a bad attitude right now.  Maybe I'll feel better after Nebraska and their chubby QB......)

Please be the Tempe bowl. I have a buddy down there and this would be an awesome excuse to go down.

My best realistic hope is Ohio doesn't make the national championship game, and Sparty is subsequently denied the Rose or even a BCS bowl at all. I'd prefer  we upset Ohio to spoil their  chances, but  watching their frustration going undefeated and not getting there would be sweet, too.

I don't like Baylor's chances of winning out, but Alabama, Forlida State, and Oregon all have a decent shot. Let's hope two of them run the table.

Wisconsin will finish 10-2 unless they have another referee-inspired meltdown.

MSU's big game is at Nebraska. A loss there, then they'd have to beat Ohio to go to BCS.

Ohio needs TWO teams to lose.

Watching FSU last night, don't see them falling (even at 4-4 Florida).

Orgeon needs to win at Stanford.

Bama has to beat LSU, win at Auburn, then SEC title. That's tough, but then so is Bama.

has turned things around defensively at Texas.  While only one of those games was against an impressive offense (OU), their defense is more than competent.  We'll see how they fare against the likes of Baylor and Okie St, but I have more confidence in Greg Robinson RIGHT NOW than I do in Al Borges.  That's how bad he's been.

and only slightly more against Texas.  We don't have the speed at corner or safety to cover either team's outside receivers and our O Line couldn't slow down either team's pass rush.  It might be like RR against Miss. State all over again.  Not trying to be negative, but this team has very little upside right now.

Our secondary plays the receiver no the ball and our O Line is swiss cheese.  If Devin gets hurt in the next few weeks, I pray for Shane Morris, he might get killed.

I'm not going to worry about bowl games, I'm more concewnredn with slowing down Nebraska.  If we can beat them by more than a touchdown, the NW game gets easier.  Iwoa could be bad, they play well at home especially against Michigan.

As long as we dont play a premier defense we will be ok in a bowl.  Expect a PSU type game because UM has to win via shootout.  The defense is "big 10" good meaning it can slow down bad offenses with poor QBs or freshman QBs and decent outside the conference but I'd expec to give up 28.  As long as Borges doesn't do play calling like.... ahh nevermind, we're toast. ;)
