Michigan basketball snowflake thread

This team fought their butts off today and I'm proud of them. No excuses and no points for moral victories, but we have something special brewing.

weird guys, yeah, those are weird guys.

You've got seniors Dawson and Trice, Valentine on your team, 4 stars like Costello and on and on and you needed overtime at home.

That would be sobering for me, if I were Izzo.

Btw, haven't forgotten you killing this team back just a few days.

I love our program.

Not exactly sure what the story is. I had a picture of Izzo, with a purple face, lighting up Trice at the end of regulation that I wanted to post, but wasn't able to execute. I googled "Tom Izzo is an"... and angry elf popped up. That's where I saw this gif.

The fact that this team was competitive - much less taking the game into OT - truly speaks volumes about how amazing our coach and team is. I'm very happy with this team's performance today.

Our starters could more than hold their own against MSU.  Those 10 minutes in the first half when we were without MAAR, Spike, and Dawkins were the killer in my opinion.  Hell of an effort though in a tough environment.  Great experience for the young guys that they can learn from.

Nearly our entire roster on the floor was freshmen...yeah...that was amazing. We should've been blown out. OT in Spartan stadium shocked everyone (including me). There is every reason to feel pride in this team. Just think of all the playing time the underclass men are getting for next year. Wow!

yeah, that's a tough task.

Sparty should be thanking their lucky stars. They were this fucking close to a loss that everyone would have talked about forever.

Fuck them - but the star number they had on the court and on the bench versus what we had available - terrific effort.

Great regulation and embarrassing OT.

I'm shocked at the level of play from Beilein's "weird guys" and am hopeful going forward, but it's another loss at the end of the day.

I'll be honest... I'm devastated.  Yes, it was amazing watching the freshmen and the rest of the team grow up right before our eyes.  However, I feel as if that basically put any dagger into our longshot tourney hopes... I feel like we basically can only lose one or two more to get in because of the nonconference go-around, and I really doubt that the schedule will allow for it.  I'm really proud of these guys and their resilience, and I'm really looking forward to watching these guys close out the season.  Forever, GO BLUE

PS... omg JB is a wizard

Nahh man... I plan on watching every game that I'm able to catch over the next six weeks. I was just stating that it really hurts not making the tourney. Eventually, I'll get over it within the next couple of hours and watch the rest of the season with a renewed optimism for next season.  JB is doing wonders with this team, and I'm so pumped to see where he can take us

This team fights.

I think we've got an allowance of two remaining regular season losses to be going into the BTT smack dab in the middle of the bubble.

DATE OPPONENT RESULT/TIME
Feb 5 7:00 PM ET
Feb 8 1:00 PM ET
Feb 12 9:00 PM ET
Feb 17 9:00 PM ET
Feb 22 1:00 PM ET
Feb 28 TBD
Mar 3 9:00 PM ET
Mar 7 TBD

This team plays to win every time it takes the floor. Winning Thursday at home against Iowa, going 3-2 in the killer stretch (@Illinois just got a lot easier with the suspensions), and winning the last two @NW and at home versus Rutgers is in the realm of possibility, at least as individual achievements.

Why not?

Lack of depth killed us.  We needed to hit a three to win at the end of the game, we had no chance in OT after basically every non-big played all 20 minutes (Spike got 5 seconds off in a fouling situation) in the second half.

Really need to get one of these shots at a quality win.  Sort of reminiscent of the team four years ago that kept losing close games when they had shots at resume making wins in the first half of the year.  Then they went on that run.  Not sure if we have time to get enough to get in, but I'd be terrified to play us in the BTT, especially if we can get Walton back.

Some people were wondering why we always seem to look so bad in overtime. We’re an undermanned team that relies on shooting a lot of threes to stay in games. That’s a wear you out combination. We’re already tired from being short handed and not having a quality bench. You add to the fact that guys with very tired legs usually don’t shoot three balls very well in basketball. It was great to see it go to overtime, but we really needed to win in regulation. They had no legs in overtime.

Didn't get to see much of the game, but you can't question this team's heart. They've lost 2 starters, arguably their best players, and they're still hanging tough with most everyone they play.

This team just needs some size. Losing JMo, Horford and McGary all in one season was more devastating than we thought it'd be, but give Beilein credit for holding the ship steady and still putting his team in position to win every night.

Proud we took 'em to OT.

Wish we could play better in OT. Not just today, but as a general rule. These guys play their hearts out, and just run out of gas if they have to play 45.

Do they not have any good freshmen coming in? I think a lot of people thought we would be atrocious a few years where we scrapped together a very good team as well. I completely dislike that school not to mention their coach, but he is still a good coach. All it takes is a few players to step up and make a difference and the outlook could be completely different.

Other than Gary Harris, izzo doesn't really play freshmen enough to have them make a difference, and when he does, he's such a screamer he usually breaks their confidence well before they get to the Michigan game. He might be forced to play them more next year considering his upperclassmen will blow nuts, but I expect Costello and shilling to take all their shots by that time of the year because the freshmen are too terrified to make a mistake. That bodes well for us. I think we sweep easiily next year
