Michigan BagCows - Chocolate Milk seals the deal for DE recruit Aaron Lewis
Nifty story by Chris Melchiorre published at the Philadelphia Inquirer on Aaron Lewis's recruitment by Jim Harbaugh. Some quotes below but worth a read.
"“I still remember my first visit — I had told him one of my favorite things in the world is chocolate milk. First thing I see sitting right there waiting for me [on his first visit] is this big thing of chocolate milk,” said Lewis, a 6-foot-6, 245-pound defensive end for Williamstown.
“That’s my guy,” Lewis said of his relationship with Harbaugh.
“He texts me before almost every game, he calls sometimes, he even talks to my mother,” Lewis said.
“That’s what you need,” Lewis added with a smile, “you want a coach who calls the mother. Because the mother wants to be involved, too — and she might get angry when she’s not.”
Lewis said his bond with Michigan became stronger after he had initially committed to West Virginia in April — just another one of a host of big-time schools recruiting him.
At that point, Michigan ramped up its courtship of Lewis — including inviting him to watch the Michigan-Ohio State game on the sideline at Ohio Stadium — and eventually won him over by June.
As strong as his relationship is with Harbaugh, Lewis said he wouldn’t be deterred even if the coach left.
He said he has strong ties with other coaches on staff and is especially excited to be a part of a recruiting class considered one of the strongest in the country."

Insert a comment about being a 3 star here
October 30th, 2019 at 8:25 AM ^
Another 3 star DE. Hasn’t the staff learned their lesson with Paye and Uche wasting valuable roster spots?
You happy now?

I logged in just to post this exact thing. I cannot stand the 'trust the coaches' line. But in the case of DL/LB recruiting, Don Brown knows what the fuck he is doing. I cannot count the times when a player commits to us and i am initially saying WHY? WTF! GRRR!
They know what the hell they are doing and this is one of the only/few areas where i 'Trust the Coaches'.

McGrone actually was a 5*. His rating seems to have been legit.
October 30th, 2019 at 11:25 AM ^
In the non composite 247 rankings he was ranked 24th, so yes
October 30th, 2019 at 11:52 AM ^
The 24/7 composite which I just posted says differently. Not even top 100.
Do you have another ranking somewhere else?
October 30th, 2019 at 11:51 AM ^
McGrone looks pretty fukkin good to me. And 24 overall honestly seems a bit low for the guy based on how good he has been this year. I think he should have been top 10.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:05 PM ^
You realize you literally just posted a screenshot confirming McGrone was a 5 star in 247's internal rankings right?

You're looking at the 247 composite score, which includes 247's score and some other services. Here is 247's individual rating:

Sad that someone had to get hurt for McGrone to see the field. We're supposed to trust the coaches who see these guys every day and couldn't tell he was that much better?
October 30th, 2019 at 12:36 PM ^
Ross saw the field last year ahead of McGrone, and earned his starting job in Fall camp. The light has obviously come on for Cam, but when? Ross' injury got Cam on the field, but maybe it was only another game before his play did? You don't know either way, and neither do I. But it's not a legit criticism to say McGrone was better all along - because you don't know.

Lol, now we are all worried about these 3-stars leaving earlly for the NFL.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:46 PM ^
I don't think anyone is worried about that. I think people are wondering who is going to still have eligibility to return after this year and who isn't.

We always get burned going after 5 stars and ignoring the good 3 and 4 stars. In the end the 5 stars never commit to us and we end up burning our connections with the good 3 and 4 stars. This has happened so much with our program but these 5 stars just want to be on a team that they feel can make it to the playoffs and win a NC. Michigan is not there yet. So, I like getting the best players instead of chasing the 5 stars. Hopefully, the new money cannon will open up and we can buy us some 5 stars.
October 30th, 2019 at 11:48 AM ^
Now that players can make money off their likeness we should bring in more 5 stars. We lost a few 5 stars to other school and it was head scratching. Ole Miss won’t be able to compete with how much more a players likeliness is worth at Michigan. Maybe more than any other school.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:04 PM ^
The best players are 5 stars. UM has landed there fair share of them over the years. This post makes absolutely zero sense.
October 30th, 2019 at 12:42 PM ^
So why is Michigan's 'fair share' less than Alabama's, or Clemson's, or OSU's, or USC's (etc) fair share? Those teams consistently get more 5*'s than Michigan does.
Harbaugh has been getting a 5* each year, but they're pretty thin over the last 15 years compared to a host of other schools...
October 30th, 2019 at 1:06 PM ^
Because those schools are better programs than Michigan, and have been for the recent past.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:40 PM ^
On 247 he's a solid 4 star. #247 in the country right now

A bag cow? That's udderly ridiculous.
I'll show myself out ...
October 30th, 2019 at 8:53 AM ^
I think this is quite a mooooo-ving story.

We're going to milk these puns for all they're worth, aren't we?
October 30th, 2019 at 10:05 AM ^
I think this herd mentality of commenters making puns is bull, but I guess it's the MGoBoard brand.
October 30th, 2019 at 10:39 AM ^
if you want to steer the conversation in another direction, i don't think anyone will say "How dairy ruin our fun."
October 30th, 2019 at 10:59 AM ^
All of these puns.....udder-ly horrible.
October 30th, 2019 at 11:40 AM ^
And we've come full circle on the "udder" pun. It's like deja moo in here.
October 30th, 2019 at 11:48 AM ^
I think it would be-hoof all of you to stop with this nonsense. Though the temptation to continue may overwhelm some of you... I'd steak my life on it!
October 30th, 2019 at 12:15 PM ^
Are you trying to say that you mess with the bull, you get the horns?
October 30th, 2019 at 1:37 PM ^
I think he's saying that you're pasture prime.
October 30th, 2019 at 2:49 PM ^
Puns are a weak form of humor and I won't take part in this bullshit.
October 30th, 2019 at 1:05 PM ^
Maybe later I'll post a "XM/Dairy Farmers" Appreciation Thread.
Udderly possible he has something to do with the recruitment.

"He wouldn't be deterred even if the coach was leaving."
It seems Christmas music and decorations appear earlier every year.

Home Depot has had them up for a couple weeks! Miss the days when Christmas decorations went up the day after Thanksgiving.

Aaron Lewis must be one of these "enemies" Harbaugh's been talking about
October 30th, 2019 at 8:33 AM ^
I hope that's not a recruiting violation....
hate to get busted for milking it
October 30th, 2019 at 8:35 AM ^
Michigan ramped up its courtship of Lewis — including inviting him to watch the Michigan-Ohio State game on the sideline at Ohio Stadium
I didn't think you could have visitors for away games.
October 30th, 2019 at 8:45 AM ^
Maybe they can let him stand on their sideline if he pays his way to the game.
October 30th, 2019 at 8:53 AM ^
You can if you promise to allow the other team to completely humiliate you for the entire game.
October 30th, 2019 at 10:04 AM ^
I'm impressed that he was all in for Michigan after this debacle. Must really love the university.
October 30th, 2019 at 10:55 AM ^
Didn't Maurice Clarrett do this at Michigan stadium?
October 30th, 2019 at 1:28 PM ^
Yes, but he was visiting Michigan.
October 30th, 2019 at 8:35 AM ^
Chocolate milk? Wonder if this guy is a time traveler?
October 30th, 2019 at 8:52 AM ^
Why yes, I do need to walk to the store and buy some chocolate milk before I go back to my office. Good idea.
October 30th, 2019 at 8:54 AM ^
I miss chocolate milk...lactose intolerance hit me at 20 and llife has not been the same
