Michigan's Uniforms for Today

Submitted by robbyt003 on

Yup, IT'S CAMO!!!!!!

Well, at least we can see the names and numbers now.

*edit*

According to Michigan Basketball on Facebook -

Michigan will wear the blue camouflage uniforms produced by adidas during today’s game against Wisconsin. As the lower seed, the Wolverines have to wear their dark road uniforms and the players selected the tank version of the new adidas post-season uniforms.

I actually don't think they're awful.  The whole camo thing is dumb to begin with, but they could be a lot worse.  See Baylor's from last night....

If the players like them, then whatever.

Gusee I have to see them in the game, but they aren't as offensive as I had imagined. That said, screw Adidas.

How did Michigan sports go from having the coolest uniforms/gear on the planet to our fans regularly having to say, as compliments, "Well, I've seen worse", "It's not terrible", "The blue hides the camo design well" or "If the sun's not out, they actually are pretty good"?

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

I don't understand why we can't just tell Adidas to shove it when they present their latest fugly uniform design.  Sure, they contribute millions of dollars worth of stuff to the athletic department.  Guess what?  If we tell them that we're not wearing zubaz and that they're idiots for asking us, they're not going to suddenly refuse to do another deal with Michigan.

Last I checked, apparel companies were still paying wads of money to work with Alabama, USC, Penn State, Texas, and all the other tradition-rich schools who don't use any shoe company clown suits.  If Adidas doesn't want to do a deal based on keeping the uniforms traditional, I'm sure Nike or Under Armour would be glad to do so.  Hell, put it in the contract.

They are the supplier, and we are the customer.  We don't need to go out of our way to please them.  End of story.

i'd probably buy a pair to wear to the gym or something. they're not nearly as bad as some of the others, you can barely tell.

The camo doesn't really stick out like with Notre Dame's or Ciny's, so at least it isn't obnoxious.  Pretty subtle actually.  Wish there wasn't camo, but it's not as bad as it could have been.

MSU and OSU basketball uniforms from this season that have their logo in the middle of the front of the jersey and say Spartans or Buckeyes as the name plate on everyone's jersey.  And for football, the MSU and OSU pro combat unis that they always seem to wear against us. So, since the Duck is "cool", you want a cartoony Wolverine Mascot walking the sidelines?

Adidas have done nothing but disappoint me with these hideous football/basketball unis. Also I never asked for a mascot but We all know Oregon has the best unis in football and is a huge recruiting pitch because kids want to look cool. These camo unis are right up there with the worse series of uniforms in the history of sports.

I will be the first to admit that Im a cornball, but I wish the school could work out a deal with Marvel (i think thats the copy rights owner) and get X-Men Wolverine on the sideline. Thats if we absolutely had to have a mascot...

The players selected it, isn't their opinion of what they want to wear the one that really matters? Unless they were coerced into it. But hey, the numbers and names are readable, no sleeves, that's a step forward right?

I never understood this logic. No--their opinion is not the only one that matters. Also, I'm sure they have nothing to do with these decisions anyway and saying they chose them is just some PR move to deflect blame from the guy who put pasta in a breadbowl.

I never said its the only opinion that matters, but their opinion means more than yours or mine, they should wear what they want (within reason of course). Now, if their only choice was something like "Sleeves or no sleeves?" then throw my point out the window and fire whoever deals with uniforms.

With respect to the stewardship of the University's image & reputation there is simply no way that an 18-22 years old opinion matters more than that of the administration and collective alumni body.

These little shits come to the U to learn taste & culture, not to teach it.  Frankly, it's shameful that the adults in charge are letting this carry on.

Like it. These alternate jerseys are gonna put me in debt. I'm still waiting for my outback bowl jersey.

Edit: Shorts are already up on MDen. Just placed my order. Pic-

the players chose them does not mean anything. I can almost gaurantee the players were given a few options to choose from and out of the options they selected these. This way, adidas can say that the players "chose" them and sound like the players like them. Maybe they just chose the lesser of all of the evils. Maybe the players do like these, but I just highly doubt it as they really are just weird. Camo? I mean I can see if a team has some sort of significance to camo, but to give a BUNCH of team camo uniforms.. what gives?? It's not even cool its just awkward. I am all for alternate uniforms and the players making the decision but I just find it hard to beleive that the players 100% want these. It's not really a big deal though it's just one game (hopefully) so who really cares that much but I mean still.

They BARELY look different than the ones we usually wear. The camo won't be noticeable on TV, and if the players want to wear them, why not? At least they don't have sleeves.

We're talking about uniforms.  Fashion shouldn't have anything to do with it.  Uniforms, id est, wearing the same thing all the time are, practically by definition, the anti-fashion.

The fact that we even need to have these discussions is what is so infuriating.  They taken a simple non-issue, messed with it repeatedly, upset a lot of people and generally left all of us looking like clowns.

What infuriates me the most is how we just let Adidas tell us what to wear. Indiana told them to "fuck off" when they showed them these uniforms. Why can't we do that?

And I don't care if the players chose these. Don't even give them the option.
