Michigan's new track stadium to be one of the best in the United States
Cool. I want to play with it. You think they'd let me play with it?
But I wish that Ferry would get to stay put, so much history in that track and it's nice that it was always open to the public.
This is going in place of Ferry Field? Are they tearing something else down? If not, that's really close to the IM Building to put another building.
The new facility, indoor and outdoor, is being built south of the golf course, near the women's gymnastics building. Ferry Field is to be a parking lot for hockey, baseball and softball.
Interesting. I appreciate the info.
been coveting the Fingerle property for decades now and is just biding time til the family tires of the business. Floodplain or not.
I grew up accustomed to Fingerle, but now that I've lived in other places with different retail outlets, I find Fingerle's continued (apparent) prosperity astonishing.
that the AD buys Fingerle but I think that ship has sailed and the south athletic campus is the alternative to that. Now the plant operations/bus fleet/ UM puplic safety property on Kipke might be more viable for athletic administration or training facilties. The busses tried to move to North campus Pfizer property but I think the Green rd. neighbors shot that down. So...busses and UM cops to the Fingerle parcel? Disclaimer...I'm at Fingerle at least once a week for my construction purposes and my father in-law worked there for over 30 yrs.--please UM leave that business be!
"The system will not only serve as an important recruitment tool for the University, but should provide a new source of revenue as well. The ability to change from a banked track for training and international meets to a flat track for collegiate competitions will allow the University to host high-profile, championship-level meets as well as other multipurpose events."
I think this would be actually really cool to see not only in operation, but to draw all sorts of competitions to Ann Arbor. I am well beyond my track days, but I'd love to give the banked track a go admittedly.
better times with sloped turns....this makes perfect sense! But isn't it now apples and oranges when comparing times to flat tracks? What am I missing? Update: I see now, International vs NCAA meets...cool.
May be we can get the next Adoree Jackson.
Proving once again that even a broken clock is right twice a day.
