MGoBloggers in Kansas City
I have a good friend from Colorado (67 years old, but in very good shape and very active) who is going to Kansas City by himself.
Are there MGoBloggers he might meet up with there? Hotels? Restaurants? Bars?
I want him to enjoy himself after driving about 11 hours by himself to get there.

After spending 11 hours making that drive from Colorado to Kansas City, staring at his hotel room walls is going to seem exciting and enjoyable.

Joe's - It is a shared building with a gas station I believe, on the Kansas side of KC.
- On the MO side, CharBar is pretty damn good!
HopCat just opened up in Westport - Kansas City, MO also - check out their beer!
Yep, they changed the name to Joe's KC because it was a bit confusing.
I also second this suggestion especially if he'll have a car. Other option is Q39. I lived right by Jack Stack BBQ and I can confirm it's overrated compared to the others, but really depends on taste, the day, the order, etc. I still love Jack Stack don't get me wrong, but it's not the clear #1 many people say it is.

There is actually quite a bit to do in Kansas CIty. There is a local U of M Alumni Club and they are having a meet up at McFadden's Sports Saloon, which is in the Power and Light Districit. It is directly accross the street from the Sprint Center. I believe they said the meet up was at like 4:30 PM.
For BBQ, Oklahoma Joe's is one of the best (has been renamed Kansas City Joe's) and Q39 is the new king of KC BBQ.
Power and Light Districit is basically like a large Mall with nothing but Bars. It forms a Horse shoe and in the middle its completely open with patio seating so you can mingle at any bar you want to.
Now, a bit of advice, all the bars will be packed because of KU. Lawrence is only an hour from Kansas City and pretty much every KU grad moves to KC. They are almost as bad as Ohio State or Sparty fans. I mean really, all they have is Basketball, who else would want to spend 4 years in Lawrence, Kansas.
I wish I had seen this one earlier as I just sold 2 tickets to the game, to KU fans unfornately.
There is a down town Marriot, Hyatt and Crown Center, all are about 4-5 blocks from the Stadium so they are walk-able or he could just Uber it.

about KU fans and basketball. I understand that is all they have, but it gets really old being around them. I have some buddies, I used to play softball with and it wouldn't matter the time of year that is all they talked about. College football season would be getting ready to kick off and they would change the subject to KU basketball. It got to the point where I just hated KU hoops and just hope they loose, which is how I still feel about them.

Your friend should have just paid the extra $ to fly there. Would have been like $400 bucks roundtrip on Southwest. Add up gas, food, snacks, and time and I'd much rather just fly in and out, especially if going alone
is the only thing I can come up with for not flying there.
It's actually $700+ due to short notice and that doesn't include renting a car or cab to get downtown (the airport is 20+ min from downtown KC). Having driven straight from Denver to St. Louis on a particularly tornado-y day in Kansas (not joking), it's really not so bad (again not joking)

and another 11 hours to drive back...
Going. Still need 3 tickets. Can pick up between Bay City and DTW tomorrow. Only need session 1, but will buy whole strip.
McFadden's meet up starts at 5 p.m., and plans are in the works for Saturday if (when) we win Thursday. Other notes:
- Bars in the Power and Light District are crowded and bro-y. Take the KC Streetcar to the River Market and try Harry's Country Club and Il Lazzarone, hitch a ride to Westport or the Plaza, or head for El Patron on Southwest Boulevard, which makes the best margarita in town.
- Joe's and Q39 are delicious, but Arthur Bryant's is literally the greatest restaurant in the entire universe. Also it's closer to the Sprint Center.
- WWI Museum, the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum, and the Truman Library are good stops.
Y'all have fun.
Seconded on Il Lazzarone: amazing pizza. And FYFI (for your friend's info), OP, streetcar is free.
This man is describing Arthur Bryant's. Listen to this man.
