META: Did recent Apple update break the MGo app?
[Seth here: Clear your browser data. As the OP noted, Apple had a major security update. Our site adjusted, but a saved version on your device is trying to load. Several users have told me clearing their browser data fixed it]
Was on a forum the other day where I read that all Apple users should immediately update their software to 16.4.1 to prevent a fairly significant security breach. This update has not been "pushed" yet to the general public but is available on the phone if you look for it in the General/Software Update under settings. This had to be a pretty significant update given that it took well over 15 minutes to download & install.
Sadly however having done this I can no longer load MgoBlog via the phone ap and have to enter the URL manually via my Chrome or Safari browser to access the site. Using the MgoAp I get a black screen for about a minute, then white, then........this.

Find out at 11

I'm real curious to hear if anyone else has updated to 16.4.1 and if so, are they having the same issue I'm having. I'm on a Apple 13, based on the non-responses to my question, maybe I'm the only one here who's updated a 13 so this might be a "me" problem, not an "us" problem.
For now anyways.

You may just be the only one who uses the app. One of the mods posted some stats split by platform and the app was an infinitesimal slice of the pie.

Yes, had the same issue(s). Had to clear my history multiple times in settings.
Number of other sites not working on my phone in Safari since the 16.4 and 16.4.1 updates: 0
Number of other sites not working in Firefox on my PC: 0
Chance that this is not a code-related issue: <1%

I am having issues loading the site on Safari without installing 16.4.1 yet. It. Won't. Load. The problems loading seemed to begin when I installed 16.4. I was surprised I did not see anyone else comment about it. So I will install 16.4.1 and see what happens.
You say "app", but the only way I can view on my phone is to use the "app", i.e. shortcut, which loads OK. But the functionality of it is not good (no back arrow, no refresh, etc), so I prefer to use a web browser to view the site. Never had any issues whatsoever until 16.4.
The 16.4.1 install only took like 2 min to install. For me it was 16.4 install that took a long time.
Installed 16.4.1 and nothing has changed, Safari still won't load. App still works though.
Here is the "app" info: https://mgoblog.com/install

I'm having loading issues with Safari as well--it takes about a minute to "get on" the site, then things are fine. I'm still using 16.1.1.
Since I'm an LSA grad I'll forgo speculation and defer to the kind folks from North Campus.

You are correct sir. The word "app" was in error - I should've said shortcut as there is no current app.
FWIW the site does load from my desktop just fine (use Safari) but recently, like say over the past couple of weeks, it spools constantly which slows everything down a ton. Sometimes I literally have to close the browser and re-open it on a new tab if I want to make a comment or change the page I'm looking at.

I didn't even know there was still an app. Several years ago, there was a free, functional, independently created app, but IIRC the site had it shut down because it meant losing ad revenue from site visits. Once I deleted it, I couldn't get it back. I don't see anything currently on the app store, so I would assume any app out there is a relic.

The problem with the old app wasn't revenue from ads, at least not directly. It was that the app was programmed to continually ping the site for any updates and we could not pay for the server costs of continually updating every app user's phone while it was in their pockets.
What we have now is just a container app whose main function is it doesn't have features created by modern bloated browsers meant for an internet of short attention spans. The reason it's not playing nice with Apple is the container app saves a chunk of our site on your device to speed up load times, and the version saved on the device after updating is now out of date.

I don’t use the app, but the site has been loading atrociously slow on my PC in Firefox and on my phone in Safari for about a month now. I can’t even login on the PC; the login portion of the page never loads. It’s 60-90 seconds to load any page on either device.

try clearing your cache and browsing data on whatever browser you're using. Safari for iOS in particular gets very slow after a while and a cache clear usually speeds it up. Or try a different mobile browser for iOS like Brave

It's a Firefox issue, but try clearing your cache.

I use Safari on my iPhone, have had horrible load times and just cleared my cache. To paraphrase that guy in Johnny Dangerously, it worked once. Chart notwithstanding, I think this is more than a Firefox issue.

Dumped cache, exact same result via the shortcut. This time over two minutes to load and then I got the same view that I screen-shotted in my original post. If I type in the URL manually everything works just fine but the shortcut is definitely no bueno.
Try opening the page in “private” mode on your phone. I could never get the website to open. Tried opening it once on private and it worked perfectly. No load time at all. I’m not smart enough to know the difference between the regular safari and the private setting but it works for me.
“Clear your cache/cookies” is, in my 25 years of experience as an IT consultant, something that webdevs say to people when they know their code is broken. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen either fix anything like this, going back to the dawn of the internet.
That’s a bingo animated gif.
I cleared my cache, rebooted, did freaking everything short of finding a plug for my phone so I could unplug it (another golden oldie fix) and absolutely nothing works.
There’s definitely something very broken that dumping the cache ain’t solving.
Perhaps moving the blog off of COBOL / Fortran would help in the future
there’s an app?
I updated to 16.4.1 on my iPhone 12 and now the site will not open on Chrome. Tried clearing cache, browser data, etc with no luck.
Works fine with Safari though.
