Meta: Autoplay ads for Realtor.com

Submitted by MGoFoam on June 23rd, 2021 at 5:21 PM

This week, I started to get autoplay video ads for Realtor.com that start every time I open a thread. Sometimes there are two playing simultaneously. Sometimes I can't even find them to stop them. I don't mind ads that subsidize the free content, but I really don't like the autoplay videos.

The ads here are starting to resemble The Daily Mail in their obtrusiveness.  It's a fight just to read content anymore.

If I run ad-blocker I shut down their revenue stream I generate being an obsessive site visitor but if I don't it's not a very pleasant user experience anymore.

There's GOT to be a middle ground.

I hear if you buy a $1 million property, the ads stop.

Another way to stifle the ads is to make a $1 million or more contribution to MGoBlog in Bitcoin.

Not autoplay, but every once and a while I'll get ads in the middle of posts. This has happened in both OPs and replies, not just on the board but in front page content too...

We are not running any autoplay ads. I've notified our providers but usually what this means is somebody managed to slip past the defenses set up by our ad networks.

I don't see any ads from my laptop.  I use Chrome on a Macbook.  If there's an ad blocker I never downloaded it.  What am I missing?

Worse yet, when that realtor.com ad starts, it often repeats at least a few times, sometimes indefinitely.

Just now, it ran back to back four times, then showed a Bernstein advantage ad for a minute, then went back to those damn talking cacti!
