This per Jeff Goodman's Twitter feed. Hopefully this is true this time...EDIT: Scout now says Matthews' high school coach confirmed this news.

Having this guy, a Moritz Wagner with some more experience (an hopefully weight), and Xavier Simpson with a year under his belt will be great from 2017.

Also insert MAAR into that line up and who knows maybe Umich Bball will have a *gasp* good defensive line up.

EDIT:

I like what I see for 2017.

MAAR

Duncan Robinson

Wagner

Simpson

DJ Wilson (if he ever develops)

Mr. Mathews....

What a douchebag. You "guess" it's progress to land a former five star recruit from Kentucky? This is a huge pickup for Beilein and Co. You're allowed to be happy sometimes, or at least not bash the basketball program when good things happen.

To be fair to folks like Ty Butterfield, of course, it always seems like part and parcel of being a Michigan fan is sympathizing with the plight of Squidward Tentacles, even sort of acting like he would about otherwise good news regarding the program. I admit that I am guilty of similar behavior myself sometimes, but sometimes it is nice to just sit back and enjoy developments like this even if you have your own thoughts on the direction of the program.

Right, and that's what's frustrating to me. If you want to criticize Beilein or the basketball program after something bad happens, I totally get it. But the constant negativity from some posters even after really good things happen, like this, is just unnecessary.

Walton and Irvin, similar to Novak and Douglass.  Walton and Irvin have been calming forces of stability in an up and down 3 years, but let's not over look that they are both highly rated recruits that have not lived up to the recruiting hype.  Personally, I think X is going to make people question whether or not Walton should start.  That roster in 17-18 could be lethal if they add 1 more playmaker.

17-18 roster:

1) X and prospect (ala Spike)

2) MAAR, Poole and Watson

3) Robinson and Mathews

4) Mathews and Wilson

5) Wagner, Davis and Teske

And honestly, I could see them adding a big time prospect at the 2/3 that would start or platoon with MAAR in the event that Watson hasn't emerged.

Future is bright, and I do think the team will over achieve this year and compete for a B1G Championship, similar to 2012.
