Brain Trauma and major vision issues. We all don’t like the guy but you don’t like to see things like this happen to kids. (Yes he’s still a kid, he’s 21)

hopefully this allows him to look at his life in a different perspecitve and turn this into a way he can have a positive influence on others.

Sucks for him, but it's not like he hasn't made bad decisions.

I was actually glad he didn't listen to his mom when I saw how he acted on the field.  He could have just gone to EL & busted his butt, but he had to be a loudmouth slamming M every chance he got.  I forget which game it was & who exactly the player was, but I remember seeing him well after a play just shove a M player 1/3 his size down (with no flag, of course.)  Might have been Norfleet.

I just hope for his sake he gets himself together physically, but I'm not a fan,

I think it is unfair to paint everybody in EL with that broad brush.  Many sparty fans were calling for heads to roll at the school (not for coaches though.)

There is a point where personal responsibilty comes into play.  People do stupid things all the time, but you can't be coached into being an asshole & assaulting someone.

I'm going to have to disagree here. You can definitely be coached into being an asshole and a bully. To your point, that doesn't mean you're not responsible for your actions. Doesn't mean everyone in EL is a jerk. Doesn't mean everyone at MSU is a jerk, or their entire basketball or football teams. But let's not pretend that excessive roughness isn't part of their sports identity. It is, and it's being coached that way.

i think the broad brush is totally accurate. mork and izzo have a proven history of disregarding the many crimes committed by their players. nobody in EL gives a shit as long as they win games. nobody is demanding action from engler or the board of
trustees for the way they’ve bungled the nasser situation and all the rest of the sexual assaults on that campus

Seahawks have made a ton of questionable draft picks the last 3-5 years. Obviously, they didn't anticipate something like this ever happening, but they haven't seemed to make a "safe" pick in the last few drafts. Now their roster is barely recognizable.

And don't care about much more. That's why Frank Clark is still on their team despite all his issues (and was drafted high by them, because he does have a lot of talent, and just as much baggage).

It's worked for them in the past. But like with Miami football back in the day, things can snowball very quickly when you operate that way. This story has been repeated again and again. Iowa made a ton of hay taking at-risk guys, and it paid off for them, until it didn't, and then Ferentz had to change too. Seahawks will have to do something similar, because the leadership doesn't seem to be there throughout to maintain the level of play off the field when taking into account all the issues they are starting to face off of it.

It's just tough to feel sorry for someone who possessed such great talent but didn't have the discipline to take advantage of it.  It always seemed like he wanted to take the easy way out and never listened to anyone who tried to give him life advice.  I wish him the best but hope that he has the sense to go back and get his degree if he is unable to make a comeback.

That may be accurate, but he's being cut because of his bad decision to ride an ATV without a helmet. Not because he was undisciplined or lazy on the field. It was a bad decision, for sure, but it has nothing to do with his general character.

I'm no fan of McDowell, but I don't like to see everyone piling on a guy who probably won't get to have his dream career due to an accident.

And as much as I never root for injuries....

Damn it's hard for me to feel sorry for the guy given his history of anomosity towards Michigan and the fact he did this completely to himself.

If Mr. McDowell suffered a permanent traumatic brain injury (TBI), being cut from the Seahawks could be the least of his worries. TBIs can cause permanent physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral issues. While some that suffer TBIs could completely recovery, others face permanent disabilities that require assisted living care. Am hoping McDowell is able to recover from his accident to claim a productive life, either on or off the gridiron.

I feel bad for him.  He seems like...not the greatest person, but that still sucks to lose a chance at your dream career because of an off-the-field injury.

Was he an idiot for riding an ATV when he's worth millions?  Yeah sure.  But it isn't like he was doing something illegal.  He was just having fun and he got seriously injured.

He made a bad choice of weekend entertainment and it will probably ruin his life.  What is the point of piling on?  It's not like he was out gangbanging or something.

Sucks to in all liklihood lose out on your dream of playing in the league before you can ever even take a snap. But he's made some pretty poor choices in the past and has had questionable levels of work ethic, so him remaining in the league sounds like it would've been a longshot to begin with.

Best of luck to him in wherever his life takes him next.
