Making fun of Sparty on a Tuesday
Seriously, why not? The amount of offseason trash talk(heck, even 10 days ago) from Sparty nation is making this so fun to watch.
Maryland is now favored to beat MSU by 7.5(!) points this upcoming Saturday. Maryland, Rutgers, Illinois and Indiana are all 3-1. Remaining teams for Sparty are OSU, PSU, Michigan and Wisconsin. That's 26-6 for their remaining 2022 opponents.
Bowl eligibility trending down by the day......Special shoutout to the Tuck Comin'/Deep Water/Woodshed/$95 million was Justified/Keep Choppin' crowd in East Lansing. And who cares if we blew last year's game? Get your tickets for 10/29, going to be fun to get Paul back.

Nothin' more manly than a man blowin' a cigar.
September 27th, 2022 at 11:49 AM ^
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

And taking a selfie whilst doing so…

MSU shade on a Tuesday should be called “Sparty Gras”
September 27th, 2022 at 11:24 AM ^
They're a laughingstock right now and for good reason.
Having said that, Mel has reached the pinnacle of employment: he can do a great job for his pride or a terrible job and still get paid. Dude's playing with house money and that's the dream, isn't it?
Hoping the ROI on that 10 year contract is next to nil. Early returns are promising.
September 27th, 2022 at 11:55 AM ^
I must be the only person in the world who thinks that if I'm being paid $9 mil a year, I need to deliver a $9 mil performance, every year. I would be incredibly embarrassed to bring anything less.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:03 PM ^
unless you simply aren't capable of delivering a $9 million performance.... Many thought Tuck was over his head when he took the job.... he had a pretty good season last year and cashed in big time (msu's fault not his, imo they were so afraid of losing him after that season, that they went overboard and will soon regret it)..... i'm guessing that was as good as he will do in EL.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:15 PM ^
And here's the best thing. Remember all the rumors about Tuck going to LSU?
Instead, MSU gets nervous and signs Tuck to an outrageous new contract and Brian Kelly leaves ND to go coach LSU.
Thanks, MSU. Not only have you overpaid for a mediocre coach, but doing so enabled Brian Kelly to leave ND in a crappy situation when he bolted for the open LSU job.
Well done!
September 27th, 2022 at 12:42 PM ^
I disagree! I don't think that left ND in a bad situation - I think losing B Kelly will probbaly be one of the best things to happen to ND, I think he'll flame out at LSU (although ND's coach hasn't been so hot so far).
But, yes this was a completely stupid move by State. And I would like nothing more than to see all these members of the $100 million club go down in flames: Tucker, Franklin, Kelly, Riley, all of them ( I know they may not all be on $100m contracts but they're close enough).
September 27th, 2022 at 12:55 PM ^
Brian Kelley set up both himself and Notre Dame to fail. Win-win!
September 27th, 2022 at 2:09 PM ^
Yup, Kelly leaving Notre Dame was the worst outcome for both LSU/ND. Ya love to see it
September 27th, 2022 at 3:08 PM ^
Brian Kelly's a scumbag, but he wins. I expect him to win at about a Les Miles level at LSU. Marcus Freeman is most likely an upgrade as a human being, but probably a downgrade as a coach.
September 27th, 2022 at 9:05 PM ^
How many sub-.500 seasons do you think LSU will tolerate from BK?
September 27th, 2022 at 6:19 PM ^
Among active CFB Head Coaches with a minimum of ten years coaching, Brian Kelly is #4 on the list with a .728 win percentage. Kelly is ranked behind Dabo Swinney (.811), Nick Saban (.805), and Jimbo Fisher (.759). (Harbaugh is #7)
Kelly may be a jerk and a fraud, but he's an excellent football coach. It's highly unlikely that Marcus Freeman is anywhere close to being in the same league as Brian Kelly.

It's like Imposter Syndrome except you are an imposter, and you have to try to convince everyone else that you're not. I'm exhausted even thinking about it.
September 27th, 2022 at 6:02 PM ^
September 27th, 2022 at 8:08 PM ^
83% of all uses of the term "imposter syndrome" are made up.
September 27th, 2022 at 10:20 PM ^
Haha, exactly.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:13 PM ^
I view it more as having unlimited equity. You can follow your conscience, follow your own methods, march to the beat of your own drum at that level. And if at the end of the day your employer would rather move on you still get paid. You can work as hard as you possibly can, sans anxiety. That's the dream.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
I guess we differ there. I’d be perfectly glad to perform shittily at a $9M annual gig. (Even if the 10 years weren’t guaranteed, though in Mel’s case they are!!)
My ambition for comfort is far larger than my ambition for ego.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:42 PM ^
well, he still seems to be recruiting well, just landed a top 170 cb from florida... but lets see if he retains him after they finish .500 or worse.
September 27th, 2022 at 1:09 PM ^
1) You are
2) Mel has beaten us 2 years in a row and we'll wait for the game this year (that's MSU's wet dream)
3) Question: Is MSU selling out seats and getting more donations than they were under Dantonio? IDK, but if so, that's worth and additional $3-4M for Mel vs. any other coach.
September 27th, 2022 at 1:41 PM ^
You can pay me $9M as much as you want (yes please!), I'm still not qualified to be a brain surgeon.
September 27th, 2022 at 1:50 PM ^
Did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?
September 27th, 2022 at 1:53 PM ^
That's out of my budget until that $9M check comes through
September 28th, 2022 at 12:03 AM ^
You clearly don’t read the Wall Street Journal with any frequency, but see, e.g., Brandon, Dave.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Financially, he's set. But he's in a line of work where if you fail, you have nowhere to hide. You don't want to be remembered as the most expensive mistake in the program's history.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
and if you're really good at selling snake oil.... you can pull it off with multiple employers....
lookin' at you charlie weis....
MSU about to get Weis'd by tuck
September 27th, 2022 at 11:28 AM ^
We should not say anything about Tuck until with beat him
September 27th, 2022 at 11:31 AM ^
Agreed. Let’s not go all 11W on this unless we beat them.
September 27th, 2022 at 11:34 AM ^
While I get the logic, this is just too unconfident for me. I'm enjoying their misery and don't need to wait until 10/29 to do that.
September 27th, 2022 at 2:12 PM ^
Exactly. There's 2 scenarios if you don't make fun of Sparty right now:
If we lose to them, I will have missed several weeks of clownin' on Sparty (unacceptable) and now cannot clown on Tucker
If we win, I will have missed several weeks of clownin' on Sparty (again, unacceptable)
I see no reason not to take any and every opportunity to make fun of their highly overpaid "horseshit coach"
September 27th, 2022 at 11:42 AM ^
I'm in the same boat. Despite them looking like a sinking ship right now, Thorne is still a decent QB and they have some talented WR's. They're still dangerous. Beating M will save their season and they will go all out. Should not be overlooked. At the same time, I have to admit I'm really, really enjoying the current shit show.
September 27th, 2022 at 11:49 AM ^
I ventured into RCMB. They literally have a thread if people would be ok with 7-5 if they beat UM. He can beat UM again, but as long as that fanbase has that mentality, we should continue to laugh at them, win or lose.
Their fanbase is pretty mad at the administration for that big a contract. They are stuck. I would love for them to be blown out again. They have another thread arguing about benching Thorne and how he has regressed this year. Going to be a fun game in a few weeks. Hope we put up 50 on them.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:22 PM ^
With their schedule I'm not sure they can get to 5 let alone 7 wins. They should be happy with bowl eligibility at this point.
As for those that say we should temper our sparty pile on, I say screw that we don't have to play them!
September 27th, 2022 at 12:46 PM ^
That “7-5 but beat M” thread was from before the season and the author was downvoted like crazy for even suggesting it. The thread was resurrected in the last week+ with a different tone of responses….
September 27th, 2022 at 1:35 PM ^
At this point 7-5 and a win over UM would be a helluva year for them.
I can't find four wins on their schedule outside of UM. Indiana, Rutgers ...
September 27th, 2022 at 11:53 AM ^
Nah. The fact that we look down on them no matter what they do is exactly what drives Sparty crazy.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:18 PM ^
Hell with that. Making fun of rivals is part of the fun of college football. Maybe Tucky makes me look stupid in hindsight, but I’ll trade that for some fun in the here and now. Right now they suck and so does Tuck.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:40 PM ^
Nah screw that. There is a boatload of schadenfreude to be enjoyed here.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:59 PM ^
i totally disagree. us treating them like the little baby brothers they are when they have the upper hand just makes them more irrationally angry. their tantrums are endlessly entertaining.
September 27th, 2022 at 1:25 PM ^
I heartily agree with this based on our history of losses to teams we should've beaten.
September 27th, 2022 at 11:29 AM ^
I'm intrigued by the Maryland game. If State has anything this year we are going to see it in that game. If they lose that one in a non-competitive fashion it is going to be really hard for him to keep their interest. With all of those transfers, not a whole lot of guys have much vested in the program. That could get really, really ugly.
September 27th, 2022 at 12:06 PM ^
If MSU wins that game Minny is for real and MSU will be a pain in our ass. If MSU gets spanked I dont think there is anything that can pull them out of that landslide not even their superbowl.
September 28th, 2022 at 7:17 AM ^
If MSU does beat Maryland, they still have OSU @ home, Wisconsin @ home , At Michigan and ly At Illinois for their next 4 games. That is a tough stretch
September 27th, 2022 at 1:21 PM ^
Maryland's passing game versus MSU's secondary should be fun to watch.
