The Longest Goal Line Stand Ever

Submitted by Dr. Sap on
The 1985 Michigan Defense was one of the best defenses in Michigan Football history. Against Minnesota, the Wolverine D endured one of the, if not THE longest goal line stands ever. Led by D Coordinator Gary Moeller, they turned back the Gophers who were on the verge of scoring several times. Enjoy and GO BLUE!! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=azaa-wyfE7g

The penalty happened before the snap, so the play is whistled dead immediately - before it started.  Anything (penalty) that gives the offense a clear advantage is stopped immediately.  Defensive penalties, except where there is a clear path to the unprotected ball carrier, are allowed to continue.

Edit: Oops, wrong penalty!

"Schembechler's done a good job at Michigan in the last 17 years."

Christ, that announcer is an idiot. That is such a candy ass, elementary riddled comment. I was in 5th grade then and could've stated it much better. Makes Matt Millen and Chris Spielman look competent.

They were awesome. They erased the pain from the miserable 1984 season that went downhill when Harbaugh broke his arm diving on a fumble. I went to the Iowa game which was a heart breaker.

Mo is the last Detroit Lions coach to end up with a winning record.  The last person to do it before him was Joe Scmidt, who was fired in 1972.  But it wasn't good enough to beat out Marty Fucking Mornhinweg for the "permanent" HC position.

Matt Millen, and his anti-UM slant, made that horrible decision.  But back then, we all thought Morningweg was a decent hire.  Moeller not being retained was a 50/50 split in popularity, though nobody was surprised they didn't keep him.  Hindsight says he should have been retained as the head coach...

Oh look. The official is Jim Kemberling, the same ref who threw the flag on the phantom holding on Chris Stapleton's fake punt in the 1990 Rose Bowl. The PAC 10 ref called Bo the next day and said Kemberling was joyously boasting that he had screwed over Bo in his final game. It seems any game Michigan played in the 80's and 90's was officiated by that asshole.
