Let the NCAA know what you think about the new clock rules

Brian cited this in his game recap post:

Excuse the source, but there's this as well:

Less football.  More commercials.  Great work everyone!

It won't make a lick of difference, but if you feel inclined to voice your displeasure, you may email the NCAA Rules Committee here:

You know nothing will change; I know nothing will change; Henri the Otter of Ennui knows nothing will change...but if some lackey at the NCAA has to sift through 17 extra emails today, I will feel slightly less aggrieved.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government...

I think the founding Fathers state my feelings on the NCAA pretty eloquently, so I'll just steal from the best.

As in-game game attendance continues to wane, fewer and fewer new season ticket holders join up to pay the astronomical costs, eyeballs leave the TV, and ad revenue goes down, the university presidents and ADs (who have completely failed to be the fans' advocates), the TV execs (who don't give a shit about the in-game experience), and the NCAA clowns will all eventually blame the fans themselves.

Possession teams like Michigan can turn this to advantage quickly fi they fully commit to doing so. For instance, as soon as your team has a 2 score lead of any kind, your offense should enter creeper mode, using at least 25 seconds of game clock on EVERY SINGLE PLAY. If you watch the past 2yrs of OSU games Harbaugh & Co. were doing just that. Robbing the organism of its oxygen. For me, watching a "spread/tempo" team like OSU get a 2 score lead against a team and then proceed to snap the ball with 15-20 seconds on the play clock just absolutely KILLS me. How fucking stupid are you? The clock is the mortal enemy of the trailing team. This is 100% always true, and it should be the friend of the team in the lead. This ain't baseball or tennis. Every possession you can rob them of is worth basically 7pts to YOUR team. There is ZERO explainable reason for a tempo team to continue running tempo once they have a 2 score lead

This might be what eventually changes this utterly stupid course. It's now conceivable that a team could get one possession in an entire half. Win the toss, take the ball, 12 minute drive. Kickoff. 14 minute drive, kickoff, 14 minute drive. Halftime.

Attendance is already abysmal at most games and nearly all of the bowl games. Notice how seldom the camera shots include the crowd...it's not accidental. I think "pore-o-vision", as it's called here, is a byproduct of camera crews being told to avoid showing 25% full stadiums at all costs. Did anyone notice that when Duke fans stormed the field last weekend it was a few hundred people at most? Sure, not everyone ran onto the field, but it was a pretty stark that it amounted to a cluster of fans from roughly the 45 to the 15, at most. I've seen more people at band pre-game shows.

I hate any rule changes like this to sports.  It's bad enough we have to sit through more commercials driven by greed.  What I really dislike though is how it impacts the record books.  The possession discrepancy alone will see to it that athletes are not compared very fairly in almost every statistical category going forward with previous record holders.

It's bad for the integrity of the game all around.
