UM lost to Baylor.  I don’t care if he said he wanted to be closer.  That is illogical at the 11th hour.  You mean ‘nobody’ in his family, not one person, EVER mentioned ‘distance’ during the whole courting process by UM.  When he ‘supposedly’ silent committed, distance was never even thought about once?  But, at the last minute it becomes an issue?

whatever. UM losing key targets has become comical at this point.

I’m not sure why more people aren’t talking about that then him just signing with Baylor. This is atrocious that this is a top prospect for this team. 3 top 100 recruits then the next highest rated recruit is 259. I don’t think we have another recruit in the top 100. If you think Nolan is coming here, you’re delusional. UM can’t even win a recruiting battle against Baylor!

We don’t have 3 top 100 recruits. We have 2, and then the 3rd highest rated guy is 294 in the composite.  So basically 2 elite recruits that  would make it into OSU’s class assuming they don’t take 4 receivers better than Morris. You take away those 2 and it’s the same basic class as MSU is putting together, maybe even slightly lower.
Tatum better pick us or this is going to get ugly.  We could end the class with 3 four stars and 1 5 star.  We’re not leading for any other 4 stars other than Walker and he just got a Bama offer.
So I thought the new young and inexperienced guys were brought in because we were going all in on recruiting? This class won’t be top 20. And god forbid one of our top guys flip, this place will melt down.

Oh yeah, I stand corrected. Not sure why I thought UM had three. This is the result of a coach that is going to get fired. If it werent  for meritocracy BS with Warde, we could have moved on last year. I hope I am wrong but I don’t and so far, doesn’t look like Harbaugh will survive this. The talent discrepancy has fallen off a cliff the last couple of years. But relying on starters that are 2-3 stars will not compete with PSU or Wisc. Osu is a complete different stratosphere

Yeah, I think I had read, for one thing, people saying once Michigan moves on from Don Brown, defensive recruiting would get better. You know, that Don Brown that brought in Kwity Paye and Josh Uche? And also that 5 Star Aubrey Solomon that Nick Saban had as his top interior D Line priority, whose house Saban personally flew in to visit two nights before National signing day, and sat on the living room couch, waiting him for him to come home, but who never did make it home before Saban had to leave? That Don Brown is gone now. And phew, recruiting is so much better.

This board when Michigan lands a 3-star: MICHIGAN'S RECRUITING IS TERRIBLE BECAUSE ALL WE GET ARE 3-STARS AND WE SHOULD DO BETTER!!!!

This board when Michigan misses on a 3-star: MICHIGAN'S RECRUITING IS TERRIBLE BECAUSE WE MISSED OUT ON THIS AMAZING HIDDEN 3-STAR TALENT!!!!

Except it cuts both ways.

When people complain about a recruit's low rankings: "YOU'RE JUST A STAR GAZER. I TRUST THE COACHES LIVE EVALUATION MORE THAN THE SERVICE'S RANKINGS"

The same people when they lose to OSU again: "HOW DO YOU EXPECT HARBAUGH TO COMPETE VERSUS ALL THOSE STARZ"

So can we stop saying they are letting all these recruits go because they have bigger fish on the line?

What a bunch of self-delusional bullshit.

This is a perfect example of why Michigan needs to recruit better within 250 miles of campus, especially Ohio and PA.  Harbaugh and company have neglected Ohio and PA since arriving on campus.  When all your eggs are in the baskets of kids who live in Texas, Florida, Georgia and California your basket is going to be fairly empty.  Kids that live in those states should be bonuses and icing on the cake.  That cake is built within 250 miles of campus. Let's hope 2023 is more in line with how Michigan used to recruit prior to the RR era.

While proximity was a factor in his final decision, it sounds like Patton also connected well with Baylor's staff from a football perspective:

"Coach Aranda being a linebackers coach and defensive guy I don’t feel like you find that too often,” Patton said. “And after talking to Patrick Queen and Devin White (two Aranda coached at LSU), knowing what he can do with them two, if I can get molded into a little of that with my work ethic I’m all in.”

If you think Michigan football is anything other than a dumpster fire right now then we are simply looking at alternate realities. We can’t recruit at a high level and we get beat on the field by teams who recruit at a lower level. There is nothing this coaching staff has done that justifies any faith in it.

Could not agree more.  I am an alum and my first UM football game was to see UM play Navy when Roger Staubach was quarterbacking.  I really can't articulate any reason why a four or five-star  football recruit would pick Michigan right now.  Apparently, lots of three stars agree.  Probably starting over again after next year.

Warde may not want to keep Harbaugh but the donors/regents were happy with Harbaugh and rather keep him around. So Warde did the next best thing is to extend his contract with significant paycut. That way he didn't have to fire him but gave Harbaugh an out to find a job in the NFL.

It's either fire him or extend his contract. Warde can't just sit his hands with one year left in Harbaugh's contract. That's how football coach contract works.
