I was under the impression that there is no such thing as muffing a kickoff. Aren't kickoffs live unless someone calls a fair catch or the ball touches the end zone? I thought they ruled him down before he fumbled through the endzone. And since it could not have affected the outcome of the game no one bothered to review it.

As stated by others, the ball is live, but muffed kickoffs can not be advanced by the kicking team.

If you were at the game, and happened to be looking the right direction, you would have seen the referee blowing the ball dead as soon as Michigan established possession, marking it at the 14 yard line.  The official play-by-play confirms this as well--Michigan recovery at the Notre Dame 14, no advancement.

Here in Northeast Ohio, we say you can go to college or you can go to Kent!

College player picked up the ball and ran the wrong way.  Did not hurt his team and now he has a great highlight to show his kids.  Laugh and the world laughs with you!  Think of it sort of like the Stanford Cal band kickoff return play and enjoy it.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats funny... i have always made up such plays in my mind and laughed at the stupidity of the whole situation....they should have shown the coach's reactions too....
