Jon Horford gets Michigan offer
I didn't see this posted elsewhere:
According to TheWolverine, Jon Horford got his Michigan offer from Beilein last week. The article is paywalled($), but here is the most important tidbit, IMO:
To me, that sounds like when he visits in a few weeks (after the MHSAA Tournament) he could be leaving a Wolverine."I'll possibly take visits, but I think [Michigan] might be a good fit," he said. "When I go in to talk to Coach Beilein, I'll know.
Can you give me a link or some background on him?
thanks.
He's Al Horford's little brother. Might not have as much upside as Al, but I think is more polished right now. Either way, he's a guy with size (ok, height) and definitely has ability.
I wonder if he drops for Michigan if the coaching staff will still go after Amir Williams. I'm hoping they do.
Williams is really special, I don't think Beilein would pass up on him. Sadly though, I don't think we get Williams, but if we could get them both that would be great.
Even with limited scholarships, you have to stay on Amir.
Not only is he a special talent, but we gotta get Detroit back.
with CB, Carlton Brundidge, and I think that will sway him to Meeechigan! Williams is a beast and I doubt the staff stops recruiting him as he is college ready now.
Let's hope so. But also that Mccallum being good friends with Ziegler, doesn't sway him to UCLA so they can play together. It would be great to get to of the best from Detroit for a year.
Not that I don't want Williams but don't forget about Marshall
Plumlee who based on his and his parent's amount of campus visits is very high on Michigan.
For sure, I think Beilein might rather have him, but he seems like a Duke lock. At the end of the day, I can't see him passing up Duke.
I do agree that at the end of the day he picks Duke, but his interest does seem sincere. All I'm saying is if we loose out on Williams and get Plumlee I won't be upset.
Plumlee is a beast
He makes Davion Rogers look cut

Thank goodness, we definitely need more size.
I know Horford has been very patient waiting on this offer. I hope he goes blue.
Now hit the weights and put on some lbs please. We need someone to knock folks around down low.
Just curious, does anyone think that him finally receiving an M offer reflects on Ziegler's status in any way? I'm told that we still have 1 more scholarship to give (beyond Horford) but I was wondering if the timing was a little suspect.
Will Cronin still be keeping his scholarship for 4 years?
They have room for two. Shouldn't affect Zeigler either way, especially since they play different spots.
Cronin will keep a scholarship, but not to play sports.
Think of what Antonio Bass. Athletes that suffer career-ending injuries are not left out in the cold.
I'm not familiar with what Bass got. They get hooked up with a non-athletic University scholarship of some sort?
For what it's worth, I would much rather they use a basketball scholarship on him the rest of his time here than leave him out in the cold so to speak.
I'm not sure of the specifics (or even what it's officially called), but injured players who can't play anymore get a type of medical waiver. They stay on scholarship, get all the perks, everything's paid for, etc, but they no longer count toward the team's scholarship limit. Bass was well taken care of when his career ended, but he never counted toward the 85 scholly limit for the football program. If Cronin's career is over, he will be taken care of, but won't count toward the 13 scholarship limit in basketball.
Got it. Exactly what I was looking for, thanks.
Wait a second, I thought papa smurf and sneezy were the only two players left on Beilein's radar? This doesn't make much sense considering Johnny B hates tall people.
Yeah...Beilein hates tall players. He totally hated Cronin. He really hated Benzig as well. Good thing the NCAA didn't clear him, because then he would've been on the team and Beilein would have totally hated that.
Check your sarcasm detector. I think the batteries are dead.
One never knows. It seems that on this site, it's all the rage to rip Beilein, but any critique of RR is off-limits.
You would think a reference to sneezy and papa smurf would have done the trick
Except that someone here would already have scouted their Facebook status updates to find out what they recently had for breakfast and assessed the correlation between said breakfast and the likelihood of their attending UofM based on that meal.
"Good idea by Beilein because my sources tell me that Deshawn Sims is leaning toward leaving after this season" - Terry Foster
Well, as long as Brandon Graham stays for one more year, I don't see us having a problem.
We could actually give out three more scholarships. Gibson, Sims and Wright are all graduating this year. Wright is only a redshirt junior but he is graduating early so we won't have to give him a scholly next year. So after this year is over with the committs we already have, we'll have 10 players. Eso Akunne got a scholarship this year but it was only a year deal. So we could sign Zeigler, Horford and someone else. I'm sure Beilein will only sign two more players this year and that depends on whether or not Z and Horford come to UM. Let's hope. And plus, I think he'll save a scholarship for a big man next year (Williams, Plumlee, etc.)
What about Dumars? If he plays well, does he get the scholarship?
Something tells me that Akunne, Person, or Bartelstein would get it before Dumars, regardless of his play.
I'm pretty sure Joe can mangage to pull together the cash for in-state tuition, and Jordan will remain a walk-on regardless of his performance.
I'm not a premium member of Rivals, but after reading the subject lines on the premium board, my guess is Zeigler will commit to UM soon.
You mean Horford, right?
I just checked The Fort and I'm pretty sure he means Horford.
Balas said that the Horford commitment is officially on watch.
Just to clarify: Balas dropped the news about Horford officially having an offer and the possibility of a commitment being imminent. Dotman around the same time stepped in with some cryptic Zeigler news which was neither positive nor negative; depends on how you interpret it.
You have to love the cryptic DOTMAN posts on the Rivals board.
he meant zeigler. time will tell on that tho
I'd shit myself if Zeigler came to Michigan.
Wait, that's just weird.
Finally some height and rebounding might come here!
I just checked The Fort and Balas had a post noting "positive rumblings" regarding a certain '11 big man who is "big and highly ranked." Sounds like one Amir Williams. Here's hoping that Brundidge's recruiting efforts pay off.
Williams and Plumlee both fit that description. Can't go wrong with either.
No, you can't. I'd take either in a second, though I think that having one of Williams' best friends already committed will pay dividends.
Outside of Brundidge, Shawn Conway our last football recruit and probable basketball walk-on played on the same AAU team with Williams and Brundidge. Perhaps he has 2 good friends trying to pull him in Michigan's direction.
I think our chances with Williams are better than Plumlee (brothers at Duke).
Still holding out hope for Zeigler.
This is very good news. Michigan basketball is in need of a few bigs.... The only two viable post guys we had this year are both gone.
But is Courtney Avery going to try to play basketball at Michigan and does anyone think he'd be able to contribute?
