Joe Bolden: "Illegally Held and Thrown Upon Opposing Player" suspension.
Unfortunate that Bolden missed his final matchup with State due to this ridiculous call. Between the tent stake incident last season, and him firing up the crowd taking the long way around the stadium to the tunnel on Saturday- he has been involved in a couple of memorable moments in this rivalry.
While I agree that helmet to helmet hits need to be penalized, this incident and punishment was unwarranted. Can the team appeal this call to the league, and is it possible that the 2 quarter suspension be lifted?

If they don't they should. Because these 6 peckerheads should get F's. Wrong calls and missed calls all game long. The final outcome of the game was definitely impacted by their mistakes.

simply couldn't handle the moment or the intensity of the game. They litterally gave up on the last play and didn't watch their responsibilities like seeing if the Center is contacted. That is quite literally one officials only job on kicking plays. They were just awful and I thought that sitting in the stadium way up high. After watching a bit of the game they were even worse than I thought.
And the replay guy? Holy incompetence. Its like they found some guy off the street who had never watched football before.

The automatic ejection is a bull shit punishment. I think they should amend it to the following:
first time - 15-yard penalty, automatic first down
second time - 15-yard penalty, ejection
If they really want to police the targeting thing, then increase the penalty to twenty yards, but keep the aforementioned scenarios intact.

I don't know that there is anything UM can do about it.
This is the same crew that threw flags inconsistently throughout the NW contest and Oregon State game, etc.
It's really bad. I mean, H.S. refs are an upgrade at this point.
Harbaugh has been relatively composed thus far, and is telling the kids to just play through it, but I'm predicting NFL-level thermonuclear war on the sidelines one of these weekends.

Let's turn this into a "THE BIG TEN IS A JOKE" thread!
October 19th, 2015 at 12:34 PM ^
wherein any time an official speaks at all, they must start by saying
"Hello, my name is _____ and I am a very bad ref that doesn't understand the game"
Might cut down on dumb penalties.
October 19th, 2015 at 12:49 PM ^
IT IS DONE DEAL. let's move on. nothing you can do to change it. we all know it was a bad call. but the replay judges said it was not. they look at it closer. probably in slow motion. drop it and move on.

This is a Michigan blog, what else do you expect people to talk about after an improbable loss?
October 19th, 2015 at 1:11 PM ^
The referees were steaming piles of shit all night long. Fuck State and their refs!

Well, on the bright side we're back to Sparty needing incompetence and luck to beat Michigan. Can't wait to pound them next year and act like it's no big deal.
October 19th, 2015 at 2:11 PM ^
The unsportsmanlink on Henry that gifted Sparty a first down was also comical. He jumped just as the whistle blew and landed ON A WOLVERINE. He roughed his own teammate and for that Sparty got a first down when they would have punted.
The no call when Retchke or Bullough elbowed Rudock in the head while defenseless on the ground after catching his own pass was another reffing gem.
Lots of reffing comedy in this one but end of day it was two very even teams if you look at the positives and negatives, and could have gone either way. Is what it is, but yeah the referees were great comedy.
The bright side is that Cook was MAGNITUDES better than Rudock and we were even with them, so imagine when we get Peters in and State goes back down to a non NFL caliber QB.
Future is bright, just struggling to expunge the taste of the worst play I've seen in my life time. We'll all get over it.

The Big Ten allowed a one-eyed field judge to work games for five years.

I'm not saying that the referees in this game are physically incapable of doing their job, but I am saying that the Big Ten has a history of protecting its own...
October 19th, 2015 at 5:28 PM ^
Protect their own. Don't get the best people to do the job. Don't worry about getting the calls right, just worry about protecting the people who have the prestigious jobs.
