Louisville should get the ghost of Orson Welles. "We know of a certain stadium in Louisville... Pizzas cook there. In September, we h- WHAT? You want me to emphasize what? The "in"? How am I supposed to emphasize the "in" in "in September"? You show me how to do that and I'll go down on you."

True Blue Grit

Jack, people will come, Jack. They'll come to the Big House for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn into Pioneer not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at Stadium and Main as innocent as children, longing for the past. "Of course, we won't mind if you have a look around," you'll say. "It's only eighty dollars per person." They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it; for it is money they have and peace they lack.

And they'll walk out to the bleachers, and sit in shirt-sleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the yardlines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game, and it'll be as if they'd dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick, they'll have to brush them away from their faces.

People will come, Jack.

The one constant through all the years, Jack, has been Michigan Football. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But Michigan football has marked the time. This field, this game, is a part of our past, Jack. It reminds us of all that once was good, and it could be again. Ohhhhhhhh, people will come, Jack. People will most definitely come.

This article makes it sound like Jim Harbaugh & family actually wrote the script. That...can't be true? Could it? Crazier things have happened I guess.

Okay, I'll be the guy, just because I thought it was interesting when I found out I was quoting it wrong for decades.

"Luke, I am your father."

This is probably the most famous quote in all the Star Wars films -- that iconic moment when Vader reveals the truth about his history. Right?

Actually, the exchange goes like this:

Darth Vader: Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father.
Luke Skywalker: He told me enough! He told me you killed him!
Darth Vader: No. I am your father.

I loved that intro video it was everything I wanted it to be plus Shefter which I could have done without. I have to wonder how did this not occur to someone sooner? One of the most iconic voices in all of human history is an alumnus and it took this long for someone to think that maybe we should get him to record a voice over intro for the team.

My guess is that it has occured to people for a lot of Michigan promo videos.  Michigan has always promoted the fact that JEJ is an alum. Perhaps it just took Harbaugh's celebrity to make it happen.  The story here isn't that they thought of it (who hasn't?).  It's that they did it.

A quick google turned up this:

I've always wanted to play Michigan football, and now i want to go to the dental school too.

I seem to recall a promotional video for the university (not just football) with his voice, but I can't find it.

Saw James Earl Jones on Broadway earlier this year in a play and he has an awesome presence.  Just listening to his voice the whole time was pretty soothing, like recognizing the voice of someone you've known forever.

of the Theatre Dept. on homecoming weekend.

When I was in school, he was in town to get an honorary doctorate.  The Dept. held a "tea" for "Jimmy" -- but before that he sat down with our small acting class and told us stories that he didn't share with the big group.  Wonderful, generous man.
