It Was Over The Day Gattis Got The Keys

Don’t get me wrong, things weren’t great before Gattis got here, but at least we had an identity that comported with Harbaugh’s philosophy. Now we’re nothing. Literally nothing. We’ve gone from an inferior version of Wisconsin to an inferior version of SMU.

The ones that we lose are beat downs in those 9-10 seasons, mostly by OSU.  The record in and of itself does NOT tell the whole story.

If you hire an OC that wants to run "speed in space" and you are meddling in the scheme saying you want to have full backs and heavy tight ends,  you end up with an offense that isn't really that good at spread nor is it good at power running.   I think that's almost exactly what you are seeing on the field. On top of that fact you throw a QB out there that hasn't fully come into his own and is learning as he goes.  It's a bizarre marriage of concepts that is dysfunctional and that doesn't even address the personnel problems on the O-line.  I don't care what offense you are running if other teams are stacking the box because the throwing isn't consistent. It's not going to work without some deception and the occasional screen pass to keep an aggressive defense guessing but it's still an uphill battle either way you look at it

I will never, ever, understand the lack of screen passes. 8 guys in the box. Line is struggling to get push. Backs are averaging terrible YPC. On the rare occasions we actually call a screen they typically work out. But then its next week before they call it again. Lets just run right into the teeth of the defense over and over. Sound.

I think Gattis is probably an ok OC that just doesn’t have enough experience yet. I think he needs a bit more seasoning under an offensive-minded head coach.

Basically, he would be an amazing OC under a Meyer/Sumlin/Locksley/Norvell coach who could let him do his thing but still have the ability to see his blind spots and weaknesses.

Gattis was never given the keys. No matter who our OC is our offense still looks the same. Harbaugh just will not relinquish control of the offense. Sure he may have switched to shotgun but we still run an antiquated offense that doesnt utilize space, reads, and basically just smashes the ball up the middle into a stacked box.

Our offense has also always been allergic to tempo. Just stand at line of scrimmage looking to the sideline. That is a Harbaugh trait. High school teams are able to run at a quick tempo but somehow Michigan can never figure it out.

Yeah. It is time to start over.
