Well considering Speight did in 10 passes what Morris hasn't been able to do in 87 (throw a TD) and the fact that Speight hasn't thrown a pick in those 10 passes, I'd go with Speight.

In all seriousness we can't tell. Both player's sample sizes have been way too small, especially Speight, and we haven't seen Morris throw a pass in over a year so we don't know how he's developed since Harbaugh arrived.

That being said, if you told me Ruddock was out next week and I had to choose, I'd say Speight. Morris does have a small sample size, but has looked awful in those throws. Speight's TD pass yesterday might be better than any pass Morris has thrown since coming here. Also considering Speight only had 1 year to be hindered by Hoke's coaching instead of 3, is a freshman, we don't have to worry about a redshirt, and actually looked ok yeseterday (granted in 6 passes), I'd choose Speight.

he has had a couple nice throws that should have been TDs but were dropped by his receivers. I remember Norfleet in particular with a bad drop that would have been 6.

That may be true, but you could say the same for Speight. Of his three throws against UNLV, two of them could/should have been TD's. They were tough plays not made by Perry/Canteen but if it's Draboh/Chesson on the receiving end those are probably TD's.

Well if you can compare speight to Morris based on the few passes you've seen from Speight, and declare him a better passer than Shane, than you also have to admit that Speight has looked better than Rudock as well. You're not allowed to be honest in one case and lie about the other one.

Which means we have no idea about what the coaches have seen in practice or what their opnion means about it since they think Rudock is better and that it's not even close, but obviously that doesn't look true based on game action.

Ever since the "not even close" comment from Harbaugh millions of you guys have commented on how terrible Speight and Morris must be if that's true. Since it's obviously not true about Speight we also don't know the truth about Shane's current level of play, especially since it hasn't been tested in a game.

What do we make of him not being the QB?? Seems to me his time at Michigan is about over or Coach just thinks he sucks

You saw what you saw.

Wilton Speight, in his first significant playing time, led a clutch game-winning TD drive and then made a great deicision on a 2pt conversion which is what really won the game.

On the road, at night, against a rival who just lost their head coach.

Morris has started two games in his career here and hasn't thrown a TD pass. Harbaugh saying he's not afraid of Wilton throwing anymore tells you all you need to.

No it doesn't WD. He showed he throws better than Rudock way back against UNLV but Harbaugh didn't think so. He also keeps saying how great Rudock is, that he never gets rattled and he makes all the throws, but none of that is true!

You're also discounting that Speight got a redshirt year that Shane didn't. So Shane's first start was in his true freshmen year, a year in which he wasn't prepared to play, virtually never got in to get any experience and then thrown into the fire in a bowl game for his first real playing time! He was playing decently, had a bunch of passes dropped, and then went down hill along with the rest of the team that went down hill. He didn't have good coaching or a good line or a good team around him. Not at all like Speight last night.

When Shane started last year the whole thing was a shitshow, the team and coaching was stinking, there was no blocking and no running, then the dirty targeting that wasn't even called ended it early. The pressure on Shane was enormous. Devin had looked so bad a change had to be tried and the fan and media fangs were already out on Michigan, on Gardner and on Hoke. There was so much local and national spotlight on that game, the team, the coach and Shane's start, so many good and bad expectations, and he got no help either.

There was no similar pressure on Speight, he wasn't a local hero, he wasn't a 5 star, there were little expectations, no clamoring for him to play, expecting him to play, already being angry with him for previous play or impatient with him.

No, Speight was under the radar, wasn't expecting to play, didn't have time to think about it, no expectations or spotlight on him going in, team in much better shape, much better coaching, etc.

Of course he had the pressure of the game itself, and the situation of the game, and eventually he came through and looked great at the end, but there is no saying Shane wouldn't have come through if it had been him.

our QB recruiting under Hoke was horrendous, not to mention development. Now we know why Harbaugh arrived and started collecting QB's like there was no tomorrow. Because he looked at who we had and did not like what he saw. Hopefuly development of Speight et. al will change that, but...

Imagine our world without Harbaugh this year: no Rudock, no O'Korn, no Gentry. Starting Shane Morris or an undeveloped Speight. Shudder.

Morris was warming up as well as Speight so the thought must have crossed the coaches' minds. Not that I wish any player on our roster "sucks" but I sure hope Harbaugh truly feels Morris is 3rd on the depth chart rather than redshirting him, only to save a year of eligibility for another program. Because if that's the case he shouldn't be wearing Maize and Blue. Downvote, upvote, it's all good, because I'm not here to run for office. This whole scenario bothers me as it did last night. With that said, I'm fully supporting Speight as our #2 and hope he gets more snaps and maybe even a start.
