It's about the way you win.
I didn't mind losing. I minded losing to a team who carried itself this way while no one cared.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:55 PM ^
But, as you noted, the butt kicking.
No hot routes on all the blitzing. Teams shouldn't be able to that all game and Sparty has done it their last two games without penalty. Teams have to make blitzing teams pay and that was disappointing to see no adjustments AND going empty at the end, which just screams, "Blitz me!"
October 15th, 2011 at 4:23 PM ^
Not sure Denard has the ability to recognize the blitz or the authority to audible. Until they figure out a way to handle that we are going nowhere.
And why wouldn't you screen more against it? Did not like the playcalling.
October 15th, 2011 at 4:29 PM ^
the TAINT was a hot read by Denard missed by Smith, but yeah, UM didn't address the blitz (understatement of the year award). I think if MSU tries this next week we'll see a proper response by Wisconsin, though.
October 15th, 2011 at 5:18 PM ^
We obviously need this in the face of what will now be the standard type of defensive scheme we face the rest of the year with blitzes out of the ass. Denard had 3 guys wide fucking open on that pick six to choose from he just went to the wrong side.
Sadly, Denard had open guys ALL day, ALL over the field and just never saw them or overthrew them by 5 yards.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:39 PM ^
i asked my sparty friends a minute ago in a text if they felt good about winning with no intregredy and a player who threw a punch and should have been kicked out and i got "yes i do :)" back. gotta love sparty
October 15th, 2011 at 3:45 PM ^
I never was comfortable with the term "little bro" and cringed when I heard it..but that behavior, and the Sparty coaches acceptance of it, is exactly why it is absolutely the right term for them. That was punk. If they could behave with one ounce of class, when they kick our ass, our when they lose, they wouldn't be called little brother.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:53 PM ^
October 15th, 2011 at 3:39 PM ^
Did you notice we all ran off the field to the tunnel and didn't shake anyone's hand on Sparty? Gholston is lame...multiple cheap shots including a punch thrown. Multiple late hits on D-Rob, one that took him out of the game. Taunting that was never called on the pick 6. I hope we remember this and I hope Hoke calls them out. Can't get disrespected much more than that.

October 15th, 2011 at 3:43 PM ^
Unfortunately the athletic director will just be ecstatic they won, no one will question Dantonio especially after they just signed him to a new contract. It's all about the W for this team. No class.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
October 15th, 2011 at 5:20 PM ^
Nobody in the national media will bring this up because nobody outside of the state of Michigan thinks MSU is relevant. The story still isn't that MSU won, it's that UM lost.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:47 PM ^
Teams take on the character of their coaches. There is virtually nothing I like about Dantonio. Brady suspends players, Dantonio has them rejoin the team on the way back from jail. As for Gholston, I suspect the B1G may have a thing to say about his cheap shots.
October 15th, 2011 at 4:10 PM ^
He stood.there like a little bitch, how sad is that...
October 15th, 2011 at 4:20 PM ^
It's called having class and integrity. Football isn't a UFC cage match, punches shouldn't be in the game, nor should trying to twist someones neck off
October 15th, 2011 at 3:40 PM ^
Well I mean its not like MSU has beat UM recently. Oh wait... Can you at least pretend you've been there before Sparty? I guess Lil Bro will never learn how to win with class.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:40 PM ^
going in. There's one way to avoid that: win.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:40 PM ^
They have always been without class, even when we were beating them year after year.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:40 PM ^
I guarantee there will be wallpapers of the punch and the TD taunting. I'm very angry at this game for the lack of sportsmanship and for several other reasons.
Taunting into the endzone: new rule, probably isn't a great rule, but still should be called. Gholston punches a guy and doesn't get ejected, Dantonio doesn't blink putting him back in, he creates two good defensive plays that kill us (stay classy). Denard goes down hurt and the stadium erupts (stay classier). Plenty of roughing the passer calls that look brutal, and unnecessary roughness penalties.
Sidenote: fucking refs, I know we got a lot of generosity but they missed a lot of shit that could have swung the game. Case in point: backwards pass ruled incomplete (that our guys should have jumped on), later in the drive they get a TD, that could be the difference between 21-7 and 14-14. I know, excuses, but fucking shit.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:41 PM ^
We lost this game, fair and square no blaming refs etc. I'll admit that to the start of the game next year. BUT what went on on that field today was DISGUSTING in terms of sportsmanship and integrity. A disgrace to this rivalry and to this conference. Dantonio Gholston and the any other cheap shot artist wearing the green and bronze were classless today.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:41 PM ^
After the game I thought, "You know what, if we lost like this to Iowa I wouldn't even care." But the way that MSU played like asshat thugs makes it hurt so much more.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
If Iowa had played as thuggishly as MSU I would have been just as upset. If MSU had played like adults and beaten us I would not have been that upset. Of course, Iowa doesn't do things like that because they aren't coached by a sociopath.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:41 PM ^
change depending on how he handles this press conference. He better call those cheap, dirty fuckers out.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
If Hoke gets up there and complains, I will be ashamed. And I doubt Hoke will. Michigan failed to execute. Period. The "little brother" days are over.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:52 PM ^
Server running real slow after this one..go blue
October 15th, 2011 at 3:41 PM ^
Did you guys see Gholston run down Hoke and try to shake his hand at the end? ESPN switched away right at he got to Hoke, not sure what happened.
You said it, Geaux. This is what makes me sick.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:42 PM ^
anyone is the reason we lost. Our inability to accept the loss is why we cry foul about State's character issues. Had we won, there is no mentioning State's dirty play.
October 15th, 2011 at 4:11 PM ^
People were speaking of the dirty plays well before Sparty took control and eventually won the game. Nobody here is saying that we lost because of the dirty play and nobody here is saying that we deserved to win. I know I still would be talking about it, win or not. Sparty played dirty and with no class, plain and simple. I would be embarrassed to be a MSU fan today, despite the win.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:43 PM ^
This post reeks with bitterness. Get the job done, and we laugh into our drunken sleep...
October 15th, 2011 at 4:12 PM ^
If our team had pulled of a win, I think we as a fanbase would still raise questions about the integrity of their program, coach, and players. I think any unbiased sports fan watching this game would do the same.
October 15th, 2011 at 6:28 PM ^
Title would've been "Stay Classy MSU"
October 15th, 2011 at 3:43 PM ^
October 15th, 2011 at 3:55 PM ^
If a punch to the face is EVER thrown in a football game, you should be ejected. No questions. The fact that he did that after try to rip Denard's head off and continued to play is inexcuseable.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:45 PM ^
I'm not going to do that whole "at least we played with class" arguments. MSU won that game by dominating on defense; it happens. The fact they were asshats doing it should not be surprising, but had little to do with the outcome beyond that fact Gholston probably should have been sitting after that punch. This MSU team is losing a lot of talent after this year on both sides of the ball, and UM should be better at home. It was a loss, but not the horrible losses we saw earlier. I'm not freaking out about the offense yet, and the defense still looked good out there. Bring on the Boilermakers.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
With 2 weeks to stew over this loss, I'm expecting us to hang 70 on Purdue and Danny Hope (another jerk who needs to be humbled)
October 15th, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
No, the defense really didn't look good out there. Got killed in the trenches. The defensive line was a massive disappointment.
October 15th, 2011 at 4:27 PM ^
Considering the past couple of years MSU has recorded at least 450 yards of total offense against what is basically this same defense, giving up a little over 300 and forcing two TOs seems like a win to me. Yes, MSU ran the ball effectively at times, but UM also forced them to punt on a number of occassions and kept UM in the game. At no point was MSU able to impose its dominance over UM, and that is a win to me.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
I thought our defense was weak. We were totally unable to close off the outside run against MSU's weak line, and the linebackers were practically invisible.
October 15th, 2011 at 5:29 PM ^
We kind of expected that though, young linebackers, ect. Our offense was supposed to carry us over that weakness and either the rind messed with drobs deeper game, he finally had one of those rough starts that he didn't settle out of before getting hurt, or that injury is worse than we were led to believe.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:59 PM ^
the offense now. All season Borges has been talking about how he is so excited that with a player of Denard's talent, the playbook is opened up. However, when MSU blitzed and didn't give time for plays to develop, the team had no plan. Michigan could not run simple screens, get a push up the middle, or even hit open receivers. (Basics!) It's not just about play calling, it's also about getting your players prepared for when things don't go as planned. Michigan (coaches and players) had no composure.
On a plus note: with the weather, the fouls, and the lack of success--I was impressed Denard didn't have more picks. That is moving in the right direction.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
67-32-5.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
Gholston and Rush are thugs who will probably both be in prison within 5 years. Dantonio is no better than they are if he doesn't suspend them. Lewis is also a no-class scumbag. MSU has shown over and over again that they are no-class punk program, but today was a new low. Such a shame that such a collection of nihilistic thugs led by such a sociopath has any success at all. I hate them far more than I could ever hate OSU, because at least OSU repsects the game. MSU doesn't respect anything.
To hell with MSU, forever.
October 15th, 2011 at 4:00 PM ^
Nihilism might be stretching it, especially when they have never heard the term in their lives, but I like the enthusiasm.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:47 PM ^
Right now, I'm glad that we have one of the classiest quarterbacks in the country. I'm glad that our DEs don't punch people in the face, or try to twist someone's head off. I'm glad that we finish plays, and don't dare the NCAA to call us out on dirty play. I'm glad that, when our guys score a touchdown, the hand the ball off to the ref, celebrate with their teammates, and get off the field. I'm proud that, win, lose, or draw, our guys are true Michigan Men setting a good example; a beacon of goodness in a sea of win-at-all costs.
Right now, I'd rather be 0-6 than win a single game the way State did. I'd rather Minnesota outscore us 73-0 than watch anything like the crap Gholston did. I'd rather our players honor our university, than force us to make excuses for them.
Go Blue.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:48 PM ^
It would help if the refs reigned it in. I know its a rivalry so let things get chippy but the punch to the face should've been an ejection.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
So, what were the penalty stats? I know sparty had 13 penalties for 124 yards. How many personal fouls?
October 15th, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
And to be fair, UM lost this game when they tried to pass on 4th and 6 inches. It should have been reviewed on the pass, but it was also a horrible play call considering Denard falling forward was enough.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:50 PM ^
Michigan State played better, but Michigan proved they are better than those dirty, classless thugs. And you're right, no one will do a thing about it. Especially Dantonio, the head thug.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:50 PM ^
They always do that. It bothered me more that we blocked like a bunch of old ladies.
October 15th, 2011 at 3:50 PM ^
I thought we had numerous chances to score points and potentially win the game. DROB just was not sharp passing this game. Hoke should have thrown his red flag, our reciever caught the ball past the first down marker and his forward progress would have made it first and goal. It was just an awful play on 4th and 1. May have cost us the game with momentum. I'm sure we will get them back next year in the big house. They're a diry team know doubt about it, just like their coach, no class. I just hope WI rips them a new one!
I see us having several more wins this season. I don't think we will see a collapse like in the past!
