It's 5 o'clock. What are you drinking?

Well, I really miss these posts so I figured I'd bring one back. Also, I appear to be much better at drinking than posting so I'm going to combine these two and hope it works out better than last weekend.

Just opened hazy pale ale from Modern Times called Perpetual Radiance. Not bad!

A lager called Lake House brewed by Capital Brewery in Madison, WI.  It's a no frills beer that's light on the palate.  Perfect summer beer for my tastes.

Cheers to all fellow Happy Hour celebrants on this lovely summer Friday late afternoon in Wisconsin.

Mai Tai. I perfected my recipe a couple months ago. Took the day off work and headed to the beach, nothing better than chillin' at the beach with a Mai Tai in hand.

  • 2 oz white rum (or coconut rum, I like it either way)
  • 1 oz orange liqueur (I use Gran Gala or Tippler's)
  • 1 oz orange simple syrup
  • 2 oz orange juice
  • 2 oz pineapple juice

I keep the rum in the freezer since I don't like it on the rocks, but many people like it served with ice.

Treehouse On The Fly (double IPA)...out kayaking this afternoon.  It's 430 here in Iowa, on the Cedar River.  A Bald Eagle literally came down and swooped us on the river as I'm typing this.  Time to get back to nature and off the phone!

Broken Brilliance

I've got chili cooking in a conventional oven for another twenty minutes, then after dinner it's time to sit down, crack a pigeon hill no diggnity IPA and watch the tigers.

While we're talking about things to be thankful for, some personal news.

Mrs. Broken Brilliance and I informed our immediate family and friends this weekend that we are expecting our first child. Yesterday marked 11 weeks and it's unbelievable how active the little human is in the womb already. We are over the moon already and can't wait for the due date (fraternity leave should land during March madness).

Any advice or words of wisdom from mgoparents would be welcome. Enjoy your weekend!

Congrats! I'm a 30s something and we had our first child back in January and it's been amazing, I can't believe the love I had for another human being aside from my significant other. It's been amazing and likely part of the reason I've maintain sanity and not truly been affected by the shitty last few months we've all endured.

Again, congrats and cheers.

Congrats!

The swaddles with the velcro are great. Fuck a bunch of folding when a grumpy squirmy baby is involved

Zippers >> buttons for clothes

Don't buy a ton of clothes, people LOVE to give clothes as a gift

Get a bigass exercise ball. Instead of wearing out your knees and back swinging and rocking the baby, sit on the ball and hold the kid while bouncing up and down. Easy on you and soothes the kid

Your wife has it 10x harder than you, do whatever she wants. And accept that her boobs belong to the kid for awhile, even though they look the best they ever have

I've been drinking Coors Light since about 1pm.  But then again, I'm working from home and the wife is watching the kids and it's Friday and get all the way off my back.

A leggy Cabernet, and later I'll be verifying the authenticity of this "Detroit-style" pizza from Costco.

I also just scored a good condition air hockey table from the neighbors, so family game night is going to be kicked up a notch this weekend.

It was tasty, not quite Buddy's but better than your average frozen pizza. They get the crust right with the tray it cooks in, but the sauce is layered incorrectly. Apparently there are half a dozen topping varieties (under the Motor City Pizza Co. Label). Mine was the double pepperoni, and I threw some banana peppers on top.

Overall, I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Started with whistlepig old world mixed with whistlepig 10 year old store pick, then moved to redemption 10 year rye, and now onto Rock Hill Farms.  I'm on leave and with the house being renovated I've been sleeping on the couch. It'll be heavy drinking for a week or two.
