yep all the "smoke" (echo chamber?) has been USC for a while, think he has a teammate that just committed there, in his most recent interview it was the one he spoke up to first (his parents led off speaking about all the other schools), his brother is in cali, its in LA > ann arbor, cincy

not holding my breath here

Fat thumb posted too quick. Top 2023 MBB target Isaiah Collier (PG) is set to announce his commitment at 12pm ET. Michigan is in the top 4 with USC, UCLA, and Cincinnati.

Just me, OP, but I'd save these sorts of posts for recruits who are clearly trending toward UM. (I'm assuming this isn't a stealth concern troll.) By all indications Collier is not in that category.

Among the circumstantial evidence: With scholarships tight, they took Mr. Washington, who I think will be a nice addition but is definitely not in Collier's tier at this time.

Has he committed? If so, where is he going? Or, has he just set a commitment date? If so, what is the date? Honestly, this post creates far more questions than it answers. It's like the douchebag (or douchette?) who posts something like this on Facebook: "I cannot believe what just happened. My life is over!"

yeah. no real shot here. its been usc for weeks. but dont worry... we'll find a quality dartmouth 6th year PG to run the show next year!

For all the recruiting hype Juwan grabbed early, its really calmed down considerably. We have a lot of guys talking to us/engaging, but not a lot of Ws in the diaper dandy category. I'm not saying we need 6 a year, but the claim was that we would escalate our recruit quality and hopefully keep play at the same level. Not seeing either thing happen.

Guys like Diabate and Houstan leave after a year, and Jalen f'ing Wilson is STILL AT KANSAS... killing it. Such a glue guy on that team with a lot of talent and abilities.

pretty hard for juwan to recruit jalen wilson in two weeks, and he did get franz wagner during that time an all NBA rookie not a fifth year senior glue guy

and we're dinging him for having two one n dones on a sweet 16 team?

yes we aren't duke or kentucky and dont drop kansas size bags.  but we still do pretty well imo

No - those were independent thoughts. I'm not dinging him for Wilson, just saying it was a bad loss... the guy has been great and is still there.

I am dinging him for the lack of blue chips since. I'm happy for a sweet 16 appearance.. its nice.. but being a middling B10 team and rising up to win 2 games in March isn't the success we've grown accustomed to... especially since we thought things would go up with Howard in charge.

Beat your rivals

Win the B10

Win the B10 Tourney

Go deep in March

He's had some success in those areas, but I don't see things trending well overall. As the Beilein players have disappeared, the quality of play has gone down in a lot of areas. I don't see anything we do better than we did under JB, and I'd argue that we do a lot worse at shooting, FTs, defense, rebounding, and ball control/turnovers.

Wonder if there is something to the fact that JH has brought on great college minds, but not specialists. I dont know enough about the details but the bench seems full of good former or future head coaches, but no specialists for defense, offensive sets, etc..

I like how you say its died down considerably and then mention two five star one and done's that played on the team last year.

Essentially every guy they get is a top 100 player and the team has gone to three straight sweet sixteens. Somehow people have made the Beilien era John Wooden UCLA in their heads when setting expectations.

Yeah, they were blue chips. one a major project, the other a shooter that couldnt shoot. I get that we wont hit jackpot on EVERY 5 star, but we can't keep having a revolving door of players who could be rotation guys and then not replace them with college ready talent.

There have been a lot of guys who came in, didnt contribute a ton, and then left. Sure, some of those guys clearly werent gonna hack it, but some of them might have developed into solid 3-4-5 year players who could really give the team depth.

When hunter leaves after this year, i'll be curious if next year is another "rebuilding" year... how many of those will we plan to have in a row?

Since Juwan has become head coach we have:

  • Made the elite 8 and the sweet 16 in his only two tournament opportunities
  • Recruited SEVEN top-50 players in three years, as opposed to zero in the three preceding years
  • Attracted several high level transfers (Remember Chaundee?)
  • Retained an all-american center for 3 years

What is it you're complaining about again?

What about the other 30. I made that point already. Winning those two on the same weekend was nice. How about the rest? The team did not play quality basketball last year. Now I'm hearing.. this year is a "developmental" year? They were not a highly functional team last year. They mucked their way to the tourney and got through a weekend.

Given that only 1 team wins it in the end, i dont think a title is the only barometer for success, but i also dont think Sweet 16 appearances alone make us a great program.

Funny how we still use this legacy language to refer to NIL. When you get a promotion or move to a new company for more $$, are you "bought"? It insinuates that the person is doing something less than ethical/moral.

For the majority of us who probably would give up a kidney to be a collegiate athlete, we think its all sunshine and rainbows.

Truth is, these guys are not only cash cows for the school, but the school owns every minute of every day they are there. And a few select places even make them attend classes and maintain good standing!

Story just came out about the abusive PSU strengthn and conditioning that basically equated success with starving the athletes to attain an ideal body fat %age, regardless of performance.

While these kids aren't doing jobs, they are worked. Hard. And, for the most part, none of it is guaranteed.

Telling a guy to either

A: Come to an amazing public university where you may make some decent coin, once you arrive and perform, and will leave in 12 months after 5 of those months are cold as balls, and in a year you can go to the NBA... OR

B: Come to a great private university that has celebrity status in LA, will give you tons of money right now, will let you enjoy the friendly confines of Southern Cal, and in a year, you can go to the NBA...

I don't know how we begrudge a guy for making choice B. Michigan shold be going above and beyond with NIL to get the guys compared to places like UCLA/USC/Fla etc...

As others have recently posted;

"Isaiah Collier, the top-ranked uncommitted senior and one of the elite guards in high school basketball, has committed to USC. Andy Enfield and the Trojans now have a top-10 recruiting class for the second straight year."

I went to Michigan, but that was a couple of years before I visited LA for the first time. LA is hard to beat of you're into year-round nice weather, beaches, and intangibles.
