Interesting comments from Cam McGrone

the quality of your post is... interesting, too.

What are these interesting comments?
September 29th, 2019 at 8:23 PM ^
Asked if he grew tired of all the criticism Michigan received for the Wisconsin loss, he said, "We definitely embrace it, because we know that we’re going to see them again in Indy in my hometown for the Big Ten championship. So I don’t really mind hearing about it because I know when we see them again, we’re going to smack them in the mouth."
I loved his play yesterday. However, I am tired of the big talk from this program. Actions speak louder than words...
September 29th, 2019 at 8:27 PM ^
never talk smack. never. and when you win, be gracious at least in public. you might let out a few choice words in a locker room, but that's about it.
September 29th, 2019 at 8:51 PM ^
This isn’t selling your crop at the county fair, it’s ok to talk a little smack. This however, is full on over the top ridiculous prediction after beating Rutgers and its just dumb.
September 29th, 2019 at 9:30 PM ^
It might be okay for you, but when I played (including when that was at our collective favorite school) it was not for me. And when I was playing football after college I never talked smack - the closest I ever came was a game vs. LA when their defensive backfield talked trash all game. I scored the winning TD and for the one and only time in my life, instead of handing the ball to the ref, I placed it on the ground between the two trash talkers and said 'dignity is very quiet '.
September 29th, 2019 at 9:42 PM ^
This is the most I can recall you talking about your playing days. Thanks for sharing your experience,
i played basketball and would get excited if I hit a big shot and yelled to myself, but I didn’t believe in talking to my opponent either. Even when they would talk and talk. At most they would get a “good game” with a smile on my face after a win.

I feel like XM drops these little details from time and time. The rustic living, former career in law enforcement (I think), and now I learn that he parlayed for UM and seemingly in the NFL too? He’s like the most interesting man in the world!
(I suppose his commment could mean that he played in the USFL, which would somehow be 10 times cooler.)
September 29th, 2019 at 9:48 PM ^
Xtramelanin...what years did you play for UM?
September 29th, 2019 at 10:36 PM ^
Doing my investigative work, the original LA Rams franchise existed from 1946 to 1994. So, based on that, XM played in the league some time before 1994.
Hey, I'll drop a name. Bobby Houston was an NFL LB for a few different teams in the 80's and 90's. He's now a personal trainer at our neighborhood club. He is from NC and played for NC State. He was good friends with Tripp Welborne, who is from NC. That's my closest link to NFL stardom.
September 30th, 2019 at 4:38 AM ^
He didn't say Rams, he said LA. The Raiders also played in LA for awhile.
September 30th, 2019 at 5:07 AM ^
to all, my fault for my cryptic comments as i was heading off to bed, and let me clarify at least a little bit. i played hockey at U of M, not nearly as much as i wanted, back in the '80's and before red. i wrote an mgo-diary about it years ago toward the end of red's time as coach.
i did not, not, not play in the NFL. however, i played in a law enforcement football league that covered most of the country - playing teams like LA, dallas, miami, houston, orlando, NYPD, FDNY, and many others. our team, like most of the others, was filled with ex-college and pro players who were of course out of the league by then. it was pretty good football. we would play in college and sometimes pro stadiums (LA coliseum, jack murphy in san diego, NY, etc) with anywhere from, say, 2,000 up to close to 35,000 in attendance. the games were usually televised and the money we raised from gate receipts went to various charities, police athletic leagues, childrens hospitals, drug abuse is life abuse, and other similar concerns. it was way, way fun to do and i could bore you with stories but will skip that.
September 30th, 2019 at 6:18 AM ^
I’m going to pretend I didn’t read this and still imagine that you played in the USFL.
September 30th, 2019 at 6:53 AM ^
2000-35,000? Your games drew better than the Chargers did for some of their games in LA last season.
September 30th, 2019 at 8:27 AM ^
XM...the most interesting man in the world.
September 30th, 2019 at 11:15 AM ^
pfff
this is more like me:
September 29th, 2019 at 10:14 PM ^
Why did I think you played hockey for Michigan?
September 29th, 2019 at 10:27 PM ^
I thought the same thing.
September 29th, 2019 at 10:19 PM ^
Thanks for this, Xtra. It should carry great weight because of your experience-based maturity.
September 29th, 2019 at 11:49 PM ^
Are you barry Sanders
September 29th, 2019 at 11:54 PM ^
I may not have been a great athlete, but I was a champion shit-talker when I played sports. I'm from the Bronx. It's what we do...
September 30th, 2019 at 9:45 AM ^
I kind of agree with this. I NEVER talk when I play sports ( I never played past high school) but playing basketball on the street and in leagues, flag football...unless I'm with friends or having fun with my wife.
I don't know if I mind it so much though on this level. There's a lot of psychology in sports and (yes I know they are two extremes) but between "we will beat them in Indy" or "we suck, season's over" I think the former is the attitude that might get you to the next level. There's a level of competitiveness and aggression involved that very few of us are familiar with. When you watch guys get hit or fling their bodies into untenable situation on the field, there's an attitude that comes along with that and it doesn't really just go away the moment you step off the field.
September 29th, 2019 at 8:31 PM ^
Yeah, you're right. It would be much better if the guys didn't have confidence and bravado. While playing a sport fueled by both.
September 29th, 2019 at 10:24 PM ^
I know right? Last week everyone was bitching about not having a vocal leader and now this comes up and everyone is mad
September 30th, 2019 at 8:21 AM ^
You can be vocal and a leader without a WTF comment. I’m glad that he plans on making the b1g championship, but after Wisconsin made us their bitch, I don’t think any trash should be talked. All of our trash talking lately has ended in embarrassing fashion.
September 30th, 2019 at 2:09 PM ^
This ⬆️ post ended in embarrassment. They’re 18-22 year old kids... I’m glad he plans to see Wisconsin again in Indy. What should he say?? What can I say. Just tip my cap and call Wisconsin my daddy. I think we need more of this. Seems like the team is soft and we could use 80 more players with an attitude like this. Maybe we can start beating our rivals. You know what they say fake it until you make it.
Go Blue!!
September 30th, 2019 at 9:10 AM ^
In 2019 we still argue over when someone should talk and when they shouldn’t?
Bravado means absolutely nothing in the public realm other than for a chance to get extra shit when beat down. The talk means extra criticism, too, when the team has not earned a damn reason to talk so boldly about what they’re going to do.
Therefore, fuck yeah McGrone should keep his “bravado” to inside Schembechler Hall. The most effective leaders, even vocal, are humble in context. See: UM’s basketball team, who had championship aspirations and went about with an internal goal that they barely spoke of in “bravado.” The b-ball team didn’t surprise itself.
Hell, even AB and Josh Norman and those loud players didn’t talk shit publicly until after they did something st their positions.
Keep it in the Big House.
September 29th, 2019 at 8:43 PM ^
I don't mind this kind of talk. It's not disparaging to any other team. He's simply stating that they're using the criticisms to fuel them, and next time they'll be the ones handing out the mouth punches. It sounds like there's some fight in this team after all, so I'll take it.
September 29th, 2019 at 9:16 PM ^
It’s nice to be excited but have you seen Ohio State? Possibly playing for and winning the NC. Have you seen, Iowa? PSU? ND? MSU? And did you see Michigan’s paltry rushing numbers against Rutgers? And did you see Brown adjust to crossers! Nope he did not and you’ll see that soon as well
September 29th, 2019 at 9:25 PM ^
Do you go to the games ? Or just watch on tv? The defense did adjust with some zone schemes ... the defense held Rutgers to under 100 yards except for 1 drive. Sheesh
Go Blue!
September 29th, 2019 at 9:56 PM ^
Rutgers. Michigan beat up the B1G sparring partner. Sheesh.
September 30th, 2019 at 9:05 AM ^
Exactly, we beat them up, which is exactly what Michigan is supposed to do in a game like that. If Michigan had come out after being humiliated by Wisconsin and put up a meh 2 or 3 score win over Rutgers, we'd have much more reason to be concerned.
Michigan fucking came out and played the way we've been expecting all season. Was this the football team's aneurysm of leadership moment or just a fluke performance? We'll have a much better answer to that question after this coming weekend, but at least there is hope.
If you're not looking for a evidence to maintain some optimism for a season that is only a third over, then I don't know why you bother rooting for Michigan. Jesus, some fans....
September 29th, 2019 at 10:15 PM ^
Most of their success on the crossing routes were blatant picks. Hopefully in a competitive game those are called for what they are.
September 29th, 2019 at 11:02 PM ^
Agreed, perhaps, the refs were letting Rutgers slide, with so little chance of them actually doing something. .
September 30th, 2019 at 12:26 AM ^
I saw Blackshear rip ass on several crossing routes. Imagine OSU? I saw the OL struggle for the run game against Rutgers. That DL is not Iowa. I suppose they looked better in person than on tv? In fantasy land
September 29th, 2019 at 9:57 PM ^
Ohio State is excellent. We will know more about them after this coming weekend.
September 29th, 2019 at 10:25 PM ^
And did you see Brown adjust to crossers!
Yes, actually, I did. I also saw two blatant pick plays that both should have been flagged.
September 30th, 2019 at 5:23 AM ^
You seem like a nice guy, but I have to call you out as the biggest apologist on the board...going all the way back to the Hoke years.
Every time we get exposed overall, or in one area, you have an excuse.
September 30th, 2019 at 12:24 AM ^
Team needs confidence. But more than that, they need coaching and a good game plan. I don't pretend to have either of those but hope the players don't keep buying hype. Just win.
September 30th, 2019 at 1:41 AM ^
I want some of that cool aid Harbaugh is handing out. Apparently the team that practices at Schembechler hall is a national title contender. The one we see on saturdays is just an aberration.
September 29th, 2019 at 8:14 PM ^
I hope he is right. Michigan isn’t very good at backing up their talk, but maybe this is the year it happens.
He said Michigan is going to face Wisconsin again in Indy and smack them in the face. Lol.
September 29th, 2019 at 9:03 PM ^
... but maybe this is the year it happens.
.....Gahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!
September 29th, 2019 at 9:21 PM ^
Well it needs guys like this willing to lay it one line and not cower. Need guys like this others look to when things go wrong.
September 29th, 2019 at 8:14 PM ^
"We definitely embrace it, because we know that we’re going to see them again in Indy in my hometown for the Big Ten championship. So I don’t really mind hearing about it because I know when we see them again, we’re going to smack them in the mouth."
This is why no one respects us. We get one win against Rutgers and start to get mouthy again.
Really surprised people are defending this (well, I'm not really).
I believe the basketball team had a phrase that went something like "Do more, say less"? People actually respect the basketball team, I wonder why?
September 29th, 2019 at 8:19 PM ^
I respect his confidence. The team needs it.
September 29th, 2019 at 8:33 PM ^
Just like the OSU win guarantee?
Or the statement game against Wisky?
September 29th, 2019 at 8:51 PM ^
Who guaranteed a win against OSU? Harbaugh, when he was QB, and UM won that game. But who else, since then?
September 29th, 2019 at 9:01 PM ^
Some reporter basically all but put words in Higdons mouth at a presser last year. Something like “are you guaranteeing a win” and Higdon said yes. It was then reported as Michigan RB guarantees win against the Buckeyes
We did not win by the way.
September 29th, 2019 at 9:40 PM ^
Higdon predicted a win against TUOS. Then he sat out the bowl game to prepare for being an undrafted free agent.
