I guess winning does cure all.

I have been reading quite a few people complaining about the types of recruits we are in on and how much better Ohio State is doing than us. So i went on 247 just to actually take a look at how good some of the kids are that we are trying to land. I posted a list of all the guys we currently lead for or are expected to land from various recruiting sources. It is really impressive the kids we are in on as of this moment and I only expect this list to grow if we keep winning and especially if we beat OSU. Hope everybody enjoys and maybe this will calm some of the people down with the OSU recruiting noise. OSU has put together a great class so far but the guys we are going after are also elite prospects. OSU runs a way differently style of offense then we and we actually recruit the fullback position. I think OSU will always pull in some great talent especially at QB,WR, and HB for the offensive side of the ball. We are in good hands people I am truly blown away by the difference that 2 years makes! We were hoping for a change and Harbaugh came in like a damn tornado and literally flipped college football on its head. We have been in the headlines every week since Harbaugh was hired.

If you right click on the picture and click show image you will be able to see it in Its actual size.

I'm not worried about how we recruit or who we recruit. Trust in Harbaugh. I like their approach to recruiting. Yes winning does help, but so does the brand and Michigan is finally getting out from under the rock that it was buried under for almost a decade.

Coach Harbaugh is going to turn the guys he recruits into World Beaters; he may not have the best recruiting class but he's going to get the most out of it. I'm not even concerned about next year after we lose 10 or so guys this year; it might not be 'reload' just yet but I'm confident the guys we have replacing them will be as ready as possible to step up.

are getting a lot of playing time, though esp. at the skilled positions...and others...

Next year may be rough, esp. opening with Florida but...maybe not as rough as it looked at the beginning of this season.

harbaugh has every intention of having the best recruits.

he wants to start with the best talent and coach them to championships.

his evaluation might not correlate to the various sites that try to rank and hence gain concensus opinions on high school football talent.

i do not believe a recruiting site would be able to project khalid hill as high school TE into an unstoppable full back.

following recruitng is a large part of being a college football fan. no coach can win with bad players.

20- 30 years ago there was no opportunity to follow recruiting,  interest doesn't imply that fans lack confidence in the competence of the staff doing the recruiting.

the figurative "rock" that michigan is getting out from under, is what?

lack of significant winning has to be the majority of the "rock"

I am a fortunate son. My first season as a UM fan was 1969. We had a new coach. Perhapd you heard of him. If one were to believe the hype, no one would ever beat OSU. Reigning NCs and '69 was supposed to be better than '68. Well you know the story.

Times were so different, but in retrospect they are not that different. Every fan knows Brady gave Jim a lot to work with, especially defensively because it's largely instinct. But the OL was highly recruited as well. Thank goodness they rec'd two seasons of outstanding coaching and those that might have been overlooked will have a chance at the next level. That's the parallel - to a degree.- UM and OSU still brought in all the talent; Bump just had a problem using it.

After Bo got a hold of them, that group produced more AAs than any other five year period in Michigan history. Bump got one great season and a Rose Bowl win out of them. We all know what Bo did. That's the coaching difference.

At the risk of blasphemy, J.H is taking it up a notch. We were w/o social media so I don't know what Bo was up to regarding recruiting. Perhaps its the Michigan arrogance in me, but I think when it gets close in terms of personnel, I think Harbaugh will win out. He's got a Plan A, Plan B and C. He's tireless. Doubters? Ask Pete. This Harbaugh guy is good at coaching this game.

I agree with everything you said! I see with my own eyes just like everybody else does how much coaching truly matters not just with Hoke but across the board. It just blows my mind watching how much these guys have all grown. I posted something about it yesterday saying how much better every player has looked and how I felt that poor coaching might have kept some of them from a legitimate shot at ever playing in the NFL. I said that Shane Morris even looks way better. Some people didn’t agree and that’s fine. They said his performance against Rutgers was proof. The only mistake I seen him truly make was that pick that bounced off the ground. It really wasn’t a mistake he threw the ball exactly where he was supposed to low and fast. It just blows my mind how we went from struggling for years and now we are actually a legitimate team. The types of recruits we are in on now is vastly different then the types of recruits we were in on last year or years prior. Hoke landed some great recruits but always seemed to miss on the elite guys top 50 type players. I think Harbaugh has the attention of at least 70% of all the top recruits in the country and Michigan has the attention of every media outlet possible now. I love how Harbaugh approaches the game and I love how he spanked Rutgers ass for the BS they kept saying throughout the year! I also wonder what Ash said to Harbaugh at the end of the game. I tried to rewind the game so I could hear what he was saying but I could not make out what he said over the background noise and commentary. I know Harbaugh started to walk away and Ash grabbed his arm and said something in his ear. Does anybody know anything about that?

Wolfman used to be paragraph-challenged just like you are. Fortunate son or not, his posts used to be like yours with no paragraph breaks, full of good thoughts and/or information but painful to read. All he got in reaction to his posts were downvotes and many "tl;dr" replies. Since then, though, Wolfman has taken it up a notch. Though some of his posts are still quite long, he now gets a lot of favorable replies, reactions, and upvotes. This Wolfman guy is now good at posting on this MGoBoard.

Who the hell is complaining about Michigan after yesterday? OSU is doing better than us? How?. 78-0. I guess recruiting could be something to complain about, but given how well our young players are playing right now, I can't see why anyone would actually feel like we're at a disadvantage. Chris Evans, Devin Asiasi, Eddie McDoom, Rashan Gary, and Ben Bredeson have all played meaningful snaps this year. That's saying a lot, because in many cases we have depth at those positions and these kids are rising to the top. Obviously most other true freshmen have been in games as well. We're undefeated, the #4 team in the country, and we have a clear path to being that way when we play OSU in November. We will settle the question of who is better then. Until then, people need to enjoy where we are and stop worrying so much.

I get what the OP was saying...  It's not that there have been complaints about Michigan's recruiting (although, to be fair, some asshats - few and far between - have whined), it's more about the insane class OSU currently has lined up.  But, as the OP said, Michigan is right there with them, and will be just fine...

And these are the guys we supposedly lead for. There are a bunch of dudes that we have a great shot at or at least a decent chance with, which includes probably another five five stars and other top 100 kids. I have no idea how Harbaugh is going to make this class work in the end (could get a little semi-controversial like last year), but the 2017 class is going to have a wild finish either way.

Sure, I'd love to have nothing but 5-stars and be the consensus #1 class every year, but that isn't realistic.  I haven't seen anyone on the board who is really UPSET and CONCERNED with Harbaugh's recruiting.  He's doing a great job, I firmly believe doing it the right way, and you know he'll get the most out of the guys he gets.

BTW, the whole "Right way" thing is another reason why I doubt we'll ever be #1 in recruiting.  There will always be a subset of guys who go to the highest bidder, and we won't get those kids.

I think we experienced the same thing in Hoke's first few years, but then his recruiting and on field success diminished.  I'm not saying I expect Harbaugh's trajectory to be what Hoke's was, but I do think we 1) beating OSU in Columbus isn't gonna be easy, 2) we take a step back next year in terms of W/L record, and 3) it's not NSD yet.  That being said, I think after a short, and less dramatic "down year" in 2017, Harbaugh returns strong with his real team of his own recruits.  The question is, will those teams beat OSU?

Admittidly as a UM fan some of my expectations around ever beating that team have been pummelled into submission by the last 15 years.  That has led me to more of a "I'll believe we'll beat them when I see it" type of attitude.  Winning does help everything, but OSU is a juggernaut and never stops winning or recruiting.  They have had a pretty impressive run the past 20-30 years.  So yes, winning does help, being new also helps (new coach, new Nike gear, etc), but we still have to beat OSU and only time will tell.

The team that wins this game is the team that wants it more, just like the MSU game. Will and toughness is what counts the most.

Harbaugh and our team were embarrassed last year, 41-13. I truly believe Durkin interviewing for the Maryland job played a major role in our loss. That was the worst loss to OSU since 37-7 in 2010. Remember, Harbaugh beat USC when they were a 40 point underdog while at Stanford.

I do not care how good OSU is on paper. It's won on the field!

This game has a lot of simularity to Bo's great 1969 game victory, the first UM game I attended. OSU was no. 1 in the country, had a 17 game winning streak. and finished No. 1 the previous year. they were probably the best OSU team of all time and was virtually unbeatable. The year before we were also beaten badly 51-14, but at OSU. Now, we are the more experienced and senior laden team.

Remember, MSU beat them at their home last year even without their starting quarterback. Nobody gave MSU a chance in that game. The OSU fans claim the reason for the loss was that they were never tested prior to that game.

I have noticed a shift in the size of OLine recruiting..In recent years we seemed to take the 285 lb recruits who needed to build up to size..Now we seem to be in on several 315+ kids who have true road grader potential..With tall WRs on the outside the name of Harbaughs game looks to be forcing defenses to stack the box due to a huge OLine wth big RBs and then get 1on1 coverage with tall WRs...sounds fun

Harbaugh knows as well as anyone that winning football games all starts up front. On both sides of the ball. You can look at Wisconsin for example.

They're never world beaters on the recruiting trail, but man oh man do they know how to spot OL talent and develop the hell out of it. There's a reason that they have posted a bunch of 10 win seasons over the last decade, despite recruiting mostly three stars and the occasional four star.

The only real concern with our recruiting right now IMO is the defensive tackle position. The coaches have done a good job identifying talent and getting those players to seriously consider M, but we've just had some bad luck. Jordan Elliott bailing on us last season hurt, and then of course Aubrey Solomon decommitted. Boss Tagaloa would have been nice but that was always a longshot. We really need to either pull Tufele from out west, get Solomon back, or both--otherwise we might have to settle for a plan B guy or two at probably the most important position on the defense.

Agree. If Hurst does not return next season the DT depth is pretty much Mone and Dwumfor and any true freshman. Gary maybe can play inside but I think he is/will be more effective at an end position.

Guys like L. Marshall, C. Kemp, Winovich and a couple others are really going to have to step up as well next year.

The thought of Brandon Peters or Dylan McCaffrey dropping back behind Isaiah Wilson, Tedarrell Slaton, Cesar Ruiz, Kai-Leon Herbert, JaRaymond Hall, Ben Bredenson, and Michael Onwenu, and throwing to DPJ, Nico Collins, and Devin Asiasi is legitimately terrifying.

There is no school in the country that stacks up to that kind of offensive talent, and we have maybe the best offensive coaching staff in the country to guide it.

Only slightly in jest, but this class seems to be forming soooooooo slowly. Far more decommits than commits the last month or so - and most of our top guys are uncommitted. We have 12-14 new commits expected by NSD and it seems like many will stretch until that day. The recruits and JH don't care - just noting the anxiety to finalize the class with some of these elite guys.
