How does Pettiti get fired?

Submitted by b618 on November 6th, 2023 at 9:19 PM

If the various reported discussions are true, it seems:

This guy is a moron who is in the process of wrecking the Big 10.

He pushes for abandoning due process for one of its members.  Despite:
1.  A smear campaign and disinformation making facts hard to know without due process.
2.  Calls for immediate punishment are coming from opposing coaches who benefit from any harm that comes to Harbaugh.
4.  Disparagement of a school that makes large revenue for the Big 10 (and even for dumb-ass mob-rule schools).
5.  Proposed punishment is wildly disproportionate to past punishments (i.e., Baylor staffer suspended for half a game for doing it).

How is this guy going to be stopped from burning down the Big 10 and mistreating one of its member schools?

Who can fire this guy?  Can we write to them to explain this situation?

Most likely scenario for Pettiti to be fired is Signgate flames out with Harbaugh taking minimal penalties.  Then the mob starts looking for scapegoats instead of looking at its own stupidity.

He's fucked.

He's going to end up with everybody pissed at him:  The mob will be pissed for not nuking Harbaugh.  Michigan and a miscellaneous school or two will be pissed for letting the mob push him into a kangaroo court.  The NCAA will be pissed for dragging them down this hole while they are trying to fight off paying the players.  Fox sports will be pissed for making Michigan even think about leaving the Big Ten.  The university presidents will be pissed for making them look like tawdry SEC schools.

Everybody.

He has no defenders left.

His margin of error now is zero.  One slipup down the road and he's gone.

One way is to sue the Big Ten and its member schools that are participating in this travesty along with ESPN and the NCAA for defamation. I would go for the whole enchilada because of the damage it is doing to our institutional reputation. This is not a suit that should be filed for $millions but $billions. And I would make it as expensive as possible to defend. I would also get the Michigan legislature involved to get the NCAA to back off or have their jurisdictional oversight voided in Michigan as Texas has done.

There is literally zero chance he gets fired for the reasons you thinks The reality is right now the rest of the league is pissed. Not acting when almost the entire rest of the league is demanding action is what would get him fired. Either way I think we have resolution to this in the next 24-48 hours.

Also any thought about Michigan leaving the Big Ten is delusional.

Show cause for league destruction and attending lawsuits bringing shame on the sport. Colluding with apparently all other Bigten teams to promote unfair advantage usurping the "spirit" of the rules.

This is kind of fun, suddenly.

He’s not going anywhere unless Michigan walks away from the conference. The people who have the ability to hire and fire a guy like this only care about money and TV revenue, so if Michigan walks or seriously threatens to walk, Pettiti would be the one to blame for that and I bet then that he’s out of a job.

Otherwise, he’s not going anywhere.
