How did you feel about the zebras today?

So did anyone else feel like for the first time in a while the refs were not out to get us today? Yes they had another phantom holding call on a running back this time negating a touchdown but overall it seems they have gotten the message. I guess only time will tell if this is just a 1 time thing or things will change long term, but I felt really happy during the game seeing the majority of calls being fair.

What is the feeling from you all, did Ward lay the smack down or am I just imagining things?

I will admit that when they called offensive holding on Maryland, I was running from side to side in the family room (I gave up my tickets as I needed to go into work this morning) shouting, "WHAT IS A HOLD ON THE OFFENSE? WHAT IS GOING ON?"

This was the first game I’ve watched from the stadium this year and I thought maybe that was the reason the refs seemed different .  It actually felt like they were not trying to control the game .   But even after watching it in tv It was obvious that these refs were better than any of the games so far.  One ref took a huge hit on that touchdown pass. Kinda funny.

Considering they absolutely missed the targeting on DPJ and it wasn't even flagged until it was called down from the review booth during commercial break, I'd say not good at all, do not like!!

Look we're going to accept that all Big 10 refs suck.

But I didn't recognize the referee of this crew and  I took that as a good omen.

Tru Wilson hold aside,  I think they had a good game.  They did tend to take over in the 3rd quarter, maybe slow down the calls there.

Honestly, if it was this crew in Columbus,  or Lansing instead of O'Neill, Capron would you complain?

I think Ive been innoculated.  When I shrug at a bad call that takes a score off the board, something is legitimately wrong.

I can't say that the Maryland player who ran into the ref did it deliberatley, but he sure didn't seem to make any effort to avoid hitting him.  The two Maryland players on the sideline yucking it up following the play sure seemed to be amused by something.

Couldn’t agree more.  Other than the Tru Wilson BS holding call (which I imagine was just a knee jerk response to the situation), the officiating was fair.  More than I could say for most weeks.  Let’s hope it holds up next week!

Overall better, but still a lot of missed calls that effected the game:

- the INT, the DB has his arm around Gentry’s waist and was hitting his elbow before the ball came causing the tip.... no PI

- On one of Maryland’s TDs, guard has his arm hooked under Winovich, grabbing desperately at his shoulder pad /helmet like a wrestling head and arm. (One of many times this happened, but the result was a TD not a sack, like it would have been). IDK how to fix refs missing these types of  blatant grab and hold... other then to instruct the DEs to just fall down and act it out to make it more obvious?
