Homeless Man Raises Money for Kids of Police to Go to the University of Michigan
A homeless man, Wilfredo, who was helped by two NYPD police officers last week, and then got a job yesterday, has started a fundraiser to get housing during the cold spell here in New York as well as clothes. He starts work Monday.
Wilfredo is giving half of the money to children or family members of police officers, fire fighters or emergency medical technician to attend the University of Michigan.
Here is the webpage:

The first donation was from one of the police officers.
I thought this was a good post for today. Go Blue!

Love seeing this kind of stuff on the board. May just have to open up the wallet for what little I can spare. Wish there was more stuff like this in the world.
Recently read an article about a Yale alum helping a fellow Yale alum get off the streets and get clean etc. good people doing good things

So, guy with literally nothing is helping underpaid public servants help their kids go to college because college has become completely unaffordable over the last 30 years?

Yeah, this feels a lot like the "Home Depot employees get kid a wheelchair his insurance wouldn't pay for" story.
Good on the people involved, but the fact that it's necessary is completely messed up.

We live in a country where GoFundMe basically functions as secondary medical insurance. Assuming you're properly insured at all. This is America.

Also where a homeless person is more at risk of getting arrested by police than getting helped by them because many cities criminalize homelessness

because many cities criminalize homelessness
GTFOH out of here with that shit.
Speaking of shit, how about you pay the ticket for the feces in front of my office since the building manager got it and not the "persecuted" homeless who fucking took the dump there.

As others have pointed out, this is one of those stories that appears nice on the surface, but once you take a deeper look reveals America's deep social rot.
Why is a homeless guy raising money for people's kids to be able to go to school? Why is there no place for him to get housing? Why is the first state representatives he interacts with police officers?

that's nice
