Hockey performance reaching UNACCEPTABLE levels

Yet another instance of fans calling to replace a long-time coach whose recent teams were a bit down from what people had gotten used to. All hail the wunderkind RR...oops, no, Mel, who will lead us back to lofty achievements. Except again, not.
I hope Lloyd Carr and Red are enjoying coconut drinks together someplace warm right now.

Lloyd Carr’s end to his career and his behavior when it did end was a joke.
Red Berenson supported his successor—unlike Carr.
Red Berenson has a facility named after him—unlike Carr.

Red was aging. He needed to be replaced. Not because of his coaching, but because his recruiting was suffering. The upperclassmen on this team were Red’s guys. The problem with this team is offensive production, which comes from your upperclassmen. Notice a trend here?

Hopefully this is hockey’s 2017 Fire Beilein moment

The collapse at the end if the 2nd period was pronounced and we had no answer to Sparty's aggression...it was like a new MSU team came out and they were noticeably dejected in the first period. Had to turn that game off in the 3rd too frustrating.

The physicality of MSU certainly appeared to take a mental toll as the game wore on. Not having Lockwood really hurt in that regard. Michigan doesn’t have a physical presence without Lockwood on the ice. Michigan had no answer when they were repeatedly punched in the mouth. I thought the refs were letting a lot of the borderline stuff go. And you could tell Michigan players were getting pretty frustrated by that, as we saw with the retaliation penalty in the third that cancelled a powerplay.

Just looked it up - we're on a six game losing streak in hockey.

Kinda. There’s technically a tie in there. NCAA doesn’t recognize double OT or shootouts. The Big Ten does just for the sake of determining points. But goes on our official record as a tie. So two game losing streak.

People keep bringing up PSU and I don't get it. Took PSU til their 5th season as a D1 program to make the NCAAs. And they needed to win the conference tournament to do it. They made it the next year and missed it the following two seasons. Let's not act like PSU is out here dominating. They are currently having their best season in program history. In their 9th season.
I'm frustated with this season because we've blown leads in at least three games. Can't do that on a consistent basis because it's hard to even that out with three come from behind wins.

Worst part about being a college sports fan: dealing with insufferable, overblown, early-season rants about how bad things are going.

Thought Mel would have more of an immediate positive impact. Hope the team can turn the corner soon.

“More of an immediate positive impact.” We made the Frozen Four in his first season...
Doesnt matter how good your coach is. Unless you’re bringing in 5 first round picks every year, you have to have top upperclassmen talent to win in college hockey. Michigan doesn’t have that. And Mel’s guys are all freshmen and sophomores. So the blame doesn’t fall on him there.
