High School Coaches- What are you doing with your fall now?

Submitted by Teach_Coach_GoBlue on August 16th, 2020 at 9:21 AM

Devastating news for our kids Friday, but not unexpected. I would imagine that if you are a coach, you are more worried about your kids than yourself, but the question for today is: what are you now going to do with your fall?

I haven't had a fall without football since I was 8. This will be an adjustment for me. I love deer hunting but haven't been able to hunt as much with my bow because of football, so I plan on spending a couple weekends doing that. I also have my basement to finish and am planning a weekend excursion to Mackinac with my family.

In a football sense, I am going to continue to study and learn and be ready for the spring. I am looking at trying to find other coaches who want to talk scheme, share ideas, and maybe do some sort of whiteboard talk ("I would line up like this, how would you look to attack" sort of thing. If you'd be interested in talking sometime, let me know!

Probably not a whole lot. If the $ec and the Acc end up playing I'll watch them. Depends also on what my team's coach has planned for the upcoming months (like doing more conditioning, or squeezing in some practices in the fall before the weather gets bad).

We will be continuing with our speed training, but that is open to all athletes. If school weight rooms are opened back up, we will have our lifting program in place. As of now, my understanding is that there can't be any football practice. Our AD said that he thought maybe the MHSAA would approve some limited time of football activities, similar to what the summer is like. If that's the case, we'll do some drill work after speed training.

I don't know what exactly I'm going to do. On the one hand, I'm hoping there's some SEC/ACC/Big 12 football so I have something to watch/analyze/write about. On the other hand, I hope there's not so the Big Ten doesn't get totally shafted.

Anyway, I have some home projects that I'm working on. I'm also considering taking on another "job" to make up for the fact that I might not be getting paid my coaching stipend. Not sure what (personal training, personal football training, waiting tables, tutoring, Uber, etc.). I also have a crap-ton of books to read, so maybe I'll just dive deep into those.

I'm also considering starting a YouTube channel.

So I have no idea. But it sucks.

I work most Saturdays, so I won't have to worry about it and what I will find when I get home to watch the game. I told my co-workers not to talk about Michigan but some will smirk at me and I know things are not going to be good.

My plan is to pretend it is 1997 and just watch every game played close to the Saturday date in 2020. First up will be September 13, which will be Saturday September 12 this year. It will be revenge against Colorado who will be 3 point favors coming to the big house as the number 8 team in the country. Michigan will be rated number 14  and was projected to lose at least 3 games. I'll just pretend I have no clue what happened 1997, each game.  May be Brian can do Ufers on the ' 97 season.
