Simpson has been blowing up. Reading some of the evaluations I was very happy to hear Simpson called a "bulldog" and that he is a relentless defender. There was also a tweet by Caleb Swanigan referring to his insane work ethic. This sounds like another Ohio PG that turned out elite.

This has a lot of parallels to Messiah DeWeaver recruitment short of the decommittment, assuming Winston goes to MSU as all expect now.

The four-star prospect visited Michigan on his way home from Wisconsin over the weekend, at which point he was offered and told the Wolverines would accept his commitment instead of waiting on Detroit U-D Jesuit's Cassius Winston (6-0, No. 28).

Whats interesting to me was Winston's "need" to publicly declare he was dropping us when it is now clear he was dropped by us.  His tweet coming immediately after Izzo showed his face.  Winston was clearly told no at some pt in the past week as we were going with bird in hand.  But had to go save face and tweet he dropped us.  I am sure Izzo had nothing to do with it...

Beilein did this with Walton's class of PGs-first come, first serve with Monte Morris.

If you're talking about Winston's tweet, it said this:

My list of schools is now down to 3. Msu, Pitt, and Stanford (no order). Umich no longer an option

That actually sounds closer to "they filled up" than "I don't want to go there."  People just interpreted it as the latter because we had no reason to believe that the former was likely.

Yup. When I initially read that tweet, i thought "looks like Michigan told him they were not going to wait any longer if he changed his visit date and moved on". I definitely did not think Winston was trying to say he dropped Michigan because he was no longer interested. It almost sounded like he was implying Michigan was no longer interested (which obviously isn't entirely true either).

Shut up, Raoul, and read what people are saying.  Beilein is too old and out of touch for this.  He needs to fire some assistants and hire only really fucking cool, young guys.  We need to start cheating.  There's no way that we're going to seriously compete until we do these things.

This can't be true. I heard beilein can't recruit. Never mind that he has 3 top 100 kids and another kid who is shooting up the rankings. On a related note, can we please stop saying recruiting is a shitshow now? Or maybe keep saying it. Maybe guys like MAAR and Dawkins use the dumbass comments from our fanbase as a way to motivate and excel. Either way, welcome Mr. Simpson!

So glad to have a PG locked in for now, but recruiting is weird.  I'll be happy when he's in uniform.  Xavier seems to be really smooth and cerebral.  I like it.

Interesting tidbit, Sam Webb just tweeted that Trey Burke's dad Benji is one of the key reasons we landed Simpson. He said Benji vouched for our coaching staff big time and that may have swayed him

Reminds me of a young (dare I say it?) Trey. The way they play is similar, albeit not POY Trey, and very smart. I'm VERY excited to see this kid on the floor when he gets here. Could be a good one!

We now have quality recruits at PG, wing and in the front court.  Their rankings may not be dazzling but who cares?  These are players that Beilein likes fairly early in the recruiting cycle not late additions.   So they're likely much better than their rankings.  And even with late additions, Beilein finds gems in the rough.

Simpson (if he sticks with his commitment) is an excellent fit.  He's highly regarded as a borderline top 50 4 star but will likely stay a few years.  He's high energy, fearless and ultra quick with an elite handle.

He's not a consolation prize.  I bet he will be as good or better than Winston.
